The best podcasts for Fallout Fans

Who am I?

My name is Preston Hardin: I'm an actor, voice actor, & writer. My peculiar love for these particular podcasts came from a rabbit hole of a few select video games that take place during historical periods in American history (or reflect such periods). Fallout, Bioshock, and the Mafia series introduced me to elements of previous generations and just about every aspect of their culture: music, attire, film, art styles, etc. My favorite of the bunch, Fallout, absolutely won me over in so many different categories - the music especially. This sole detail even inspired me to create an online web station known as A-Bomb Radio which I launched in 2015 (it acted much like an in-game radio station in any of the modern Fallout games). When that wasn't enough, I was further inspired to write and produce my very own series of radio dramas known as True Vault Escapades. What was intended to be a short, five-episode show in 2016, ended up spanning into something amazing that continues to run to this very day; just recently winning Silver in the Hear Now Podcast Palooza 2023. Back during the years that I was creating True Vault Escapades, I was more than certain nothing of its kind (due to its unique niche) existed, but in 2020, I was BLOWN AWAY at the fact more Fallout-based audio dramas and audio entertainment existed in the same realm. Discovering titles like the ones listed here only further validated and assured us that the game we love so much is worthy of a more expanded universe.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

True Vault Escapades takes the 1950s aspects of the Fallout series and creates its own story within the series itself. Working in tandem with the lore as well, detectives Walter Camry & Bunny meet in the (currently) unexplored Texas Commonwealth to solve the mystery of Vault 54, which later takes them to the Mojave Wasteland, sometime during the events of Fallout: New Vegas. Drawing inspiration from both the games themselves and real, vintage radio programs, True Vault Escapades plays out like a serial; usually consisting of a unique mystery in each episode. With Walter playing the tough gumshoe and Bunny - the no-nonsense girl Friday, T.V.E. is specifically curated to feature aspects such as transatlantic accents, vintage music, and old-school dialogue, all underneath the drape of Bethesda's Fallout series.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Much like a successful TV/Film series, these episodes reflect that the source material of the franchise is so rich, that more stories can exist outside of it.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. The MODUS Files - A Fallout Audio Drama Podcast Series

Why this podcast?

Ridiculously immersive and character-driven. This Fallout 76 show personally stands at the top for me. With its dynamic and versatile characters, the goals and struggles of each character (even the conventionally "evil" ones) have you feeling certain ways for them since they constantly remind you how human they are at the end of the day. The parallels between this show and the game are so accurate, that any player could precisely navigate any of the featured scenes from it there.

Learn the history of the new Enclave in Appalachia. After Reclamation Day, the Vault 76 residents found themselves in a world they no longer recognized. Some became Lone Wanderers, others became Raiders or banded together as new Settlers. Others found themselves in the WhiteSpring Bunker - and with the assistance of MODUS, began to rebuild America in the image of the old. Our characters will discover dark secrets and new threats, all while surviving the Wasteland of post-war Appalachia. 2. Once Upon A Wasteland: A Fallout Story

Why this podcast?

It doesn't get more original than this: an actual, pure love story in post-nuclear Appalachia between two, good-hearted women that truly aren't hindered, despite the many challenges they face. The many tie-ins to what/who the player may experience in Fallout 76 are utilized so well, to boot. There's a big spotlight on the environment, it's as if this was a true expansion of the game. You'll love the characters so much that you will find yourself hoping the absolute best for them; each one is so wonderfully written that the audience will find themselves pulled right in!

Kenneth wastes NO TIME in utilizing the comedic aspects of the Fallout series and highlighting the characters to a point where you just about want them to be featured in the official games themselves! IN THE PRESS:

ABOUT THE SHOWRUNNER:

My name is Kenneth Vigue, author and narrator of this podcast. Growing up my grandmother would take me to the library in the town where I grew up every weekend. One fateful day, I ventured out of the children's room and headed up the massive Victorian staircase to the upstairs. I was awestruck by the 3-level open space, surrounded with balconies filled with books. In one cornered I wandered up to the very top level and found a dark and dusty corner room. It was filled floor to ceiling with records, which I had never seen before. I checked out "Lights Out: Murder Castle", a vintage radio horror. So began a lifelong love of the kind of audio wizardry that could be cooked up with sound long, long before television. It required an active imagination, and it cultivated it in turn.

Podcasting today has given new life to this vintage auditory art form, with groundbreaking shows such as "The NoSleep Podcast", "Limetown" and "The Black Tapes" being modern versions of classic radio drama.

With this podcast, 3 of my great loves have come together into some kind of mutated concoction of sound. My hope is to see more Fallout fans getting creative, sharing their passion and building on this amazing universe.

4. Fallout Lorecast - The Fallout Video Game & TV Lore Podcast

Why this podcast?

It's okay to admit Tom (Robots) has a voice of gold, but that's in no way to overshadow the valuable and amazingly-narrated lore that he's telling you. The Fallout Lorecast is THE place to get the long and short of each detail, big or small, on our favorite video game series. I'm absolutely confident that even the biggest Fallout fan (myself included) will find themselves learning something they never even stopped to consider, It's just a great hub for all things Fallout and something I'd even call an essential.

In the top 0.5% of podcasts globally and the most popular Fallout podcast, this series fills in all the details about the Fallout world beginning with the Great War in 2077 and progressing through major world events, factions, creatures, technology, and each vault. We'll explore what we know, and speculate about what might be. This show begins as a solo production, detailing specific topics, and grows into so much more.

5. MindFog: A Fallout 4 Diary

Why this podcast?

As someone who's in the middle of this one, I have to say, MindFog has a particular style of 1st-person storytelling that grips you from the beginning. Telling the story of Fallout 4's Sole Survivor, this story plays out like a journal entry left for whoever wants to listen. Even for those who have replayed the game dozens of times, it's not a show to skip on, as its probably the most engaging thing since the game itself.
