Who am I?

I got the ancient history bug when I studied it at college (Uni and a part time MA followed). Since then its manifested in a number of ways, from blogging to Roman re-enactment and volunteering at schools to talk about it. My podcast has been going since 2017 and it's a great way of being able to connect with the subject and hopefully engage with people about it. In the few minutes of spare time I have (I work full time) I waddle around the gym, game and take my dog out. He features a lot on the recent coverart. Watching the original Clash of the Titans as a kid hooked me in the context of Greek myth. Many years later I got the chance to study it and reasoned that as I was always a fan of myth perhaps I should give it a go. I'm very glad I did. I'm not an academic, so I wouldn't claim expert status, but I would say I'm comfortable within the wider topic of ancient history where it applies to Rome and Greece. Podcasting has allowed me to get back into studying, which I have always enjoyed and it's certainly furnished me with a sound knowledge in many areas.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

It's ancient history! Rome and Greece mainly but I do try to cover other cultures and people such as Mesopotamia, Phoenicia, the Hittites etc. I cover big topics but I'm more drawn to ones which get less attention. Whatever I do I try to make it as engaging as possible, which often involves a bad joke or pun. My selection is of other podcasts who do a great job and in many ways I would like to reach the standards of.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I hope it will be a good resource for those wanting to learn more about ancient history. By the way - these are in no particular order! They are all equally fantastic.

The most entertaining and enraging stories from mythology told casually, contemporarily, and (let's be honest) sarcastically. Greek and Roman gods did some pretty weird (and awful) things. Gods, goddesses, heroes, monsters, and everything in between. Regular episodes every Tuesday, conversations with authors and scholars or readings of ancient epics every Friday.
