The best podcasts about the comedic process.

Who am I?

I'm an award-winning podcaster, musician, and father. That list was not in order of importance...unless, of course, you were impressed by it, then that is exactly how I see it too. I'm a big fan of comedy. I used to go to watch stand-up comedy on a regular basis. I've always been fascinated by what it takes to become a comedian. I've always been too chickenshit to try it myself. One of my all-time favourite movies is Funny People, which is about the behind the scenes of a comedian's life. I've also really enjoyed shows like Hacks, Crashing, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

The Produce Stand is an aftershow about Letterkenny and Shoresy. Two of the best Streaming comedies to come out of Canada (IMHO). We're not comedians, but sometimes we say funny things about these really funny shows.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I realized that my personal podcast playlist is heavily skewed to comedy podcasts that dive deep in to the comedic process. So here are my favourites in ranked order...

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Mike Birbiglia's Working It Out

Why this podcast?

I love Mike's specials and in this podcast he works out his jokes with other comedians while interviewing them.

2. Good One: A Podcast About Jokes

Why this podcast?

It's in the title. It's literally a podcast about jokes. The host takes one joke by a comedian and then they proceed to dissect it and discuss it ad nauseam.

5. My Dad Wrote A Porno

Why this podcast?

Ok, this podcast isn't about comedy, but it's one of the funniest podcasts out there and I needed a fifth for this list. The premise—in case you have been living under a rock for the past several years—is three friends read erotic fiction written by one of their fathers. It's really bad and as hilarious as it sounds.

Imagine if your Dad wrote a dirty book. Most people would try to ignore it and pretend it had never happened - but not Jamie Morton. Instead, he's decided to read it to the world in this award-winning comedy podcast. With the help of his friends, James Cooper and Alice Levine, Jamie will be reading a chapter each episode and discovering more about his father than he ever bargained for.
