Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

Initially to share with listeners my love and passion for music, music history and how it has impacted our cultural as well as music and artistry today.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

I hope listeners walk away with an appreciation and a newfound perspective and cultural reference for things that they never would considered before. Not just within the framework of musical history but an appreciation for musical styles and genres that their not used to or familiar with.

Which episode should someone start with?

I would say the first episode, "Kumbaya" and the "Justice For Disco Pt. 1 and 2" you would definitely get an idea about what the goal of the show is and get a perspective on some great stories little known and unknown as well.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

The fun ones like "A Uncorny Holiday" where I run down a list of my top five "uncorny" Christmas/Holiday tunes. "The Timbaland & Missy Sound", I got to pay homage to the 50TH anniversary of Hip-Hop by focusing on a sound of Hip-Hop that I love which is the music from Missy Elliot and Timbaland. And the "The Vibes are All That" episode as I got a little nostalgia about the R&B and Hip-Hop artists that graced the stage of my favorite 90s show as a kid.

Which episode are you most proud of?

That's a hard one just to pick just one (LOL)!!! I would say a tie between the "Justice For Disco" episode for the fact I felt vindicating a genre I felt got such a bad rep in the past. And the very first episode "Kumbaya" getting to talk about the culture and musical history of my Gullah-Gee Chee heritage on my father's side as well as paying tribute to my late grandmother.

What is your vision for your show?

To help provide a black millennial voice and perspective to stories in music and music cultural history that don't get told enough of.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

The Mel Robbins Podcast, The Chat, Got Swoled and One Mic Black History!

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

Initially I made attempts in starting a podcast with a few failed test pilot shows and struggled to find the right name for VHC until the Vibes, History & Culture which was inspired by the name of a program at the radio station I work at, WNCW.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am a creative at heart, who loves music of all genres and eras, even though I grew up on culturally listening to R&B, Hip-Hop and Urban Gospel. I'm a bit of a history nerd, not just with music, but with all things history and a bit of an introvert.
