Ned Doheny found himself embroiled in a huge bribery scandal. On behalf of his father, oil baron Edward Doheny, Ned illegally obtained drilling leases from the U.S. government. His close friend and personal secretary, Hugh Plunkett, was present for the transaction and would likely have to testify.
