Thanks for listening to another episode of The WomensMaximumFitness podcast!
In this episode #23 I have the privilege of interviewing IFBB figure pro Tara Ramos.
Almost 2 years ago exactly, Tara was in for the fight of her life, for her life.
Her story is truly inspiring. From quickly earning her pro card over the course of two years and then deciding to step down even after placing well in her beginning pro shows. Investigating her family health history lead her to a double mastectomy, and total hysterectomy, preventative measures after finding the brca2 gene mutation.
Tara made huge life changes all in order to keep cancer away, but at just 36 years old, no history of smoking, she was diagnosed with malignant tongue cancer which eventually spread to her lung.
This is a story of hope and faith. About living through cancer that tried to take two years of Taras life, but it failed. She lived every day, ticking off chemo, biopsies, radiation etc as tasks and then continuing to live out loud with her husband and two children cheering her on.
Me: Would you change it if you could, Tara? 2 years of fighting cancer....
Her answer won’t surprise you.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did! As Christmas is just around the corner be reminded to be thankful of everything you have, even your struggles.

Thanks for listening to another episode of the Womensmaximumfitness podcast!
In this episode #26 of the Womensmaximumfitness podcast I share some pretty intimate stuff about my history with eating disorders. I thought this would be a good time with the new year to update you on my background a little. I huge history of eating disorders which I feel basically recovered from but I continue counseling about once a month because I like the me time and I like improving myself. The focus with counseling is on relationships and boundaries and not so much on food or emotional eating. I always strive to be more human. I’ll add I haven’t struggled with bulimia for decades now, not since I was 19 years old. Anxiety or stress snacking is my thing, like most people. Truth be told I’m actually quite average.

Also in this episode I talk about the different levels it takes to achieve desired fitness goals. For example: my favorite look was 3 weeks out from my last show at around 132lbs but I only eating around 1100 calories, sometimes less, and about an hour of cardio a day plus training— obviously not maintainable.

Levels can look like:

1. cleaning up diet, drinking adequate water, eating quality lean protein, getting enough sleep, msg managing stress to a very strict structured diet with very few free meals.

2. Exercise, weight training, or very structured intense weight training.

3. From counting steps to an hour of intense cardio every day.

4. Then doing all these things and deciding how many days you stray per week, month or year. Do you relax more in evenings, on weekends, once a week, only on special occasions, only through vacations or not at all. To look a certain way and year round certain levels of discipline are required.

5. Epigenetics also play a role in muscle building goals and structure. A background in gymnastics, cheerleading, track, or soccer lay a firm muscular foundation for people pursuing hypertrophy.

6. Lastly performance enhancing drugs do play a role in the building of some physiques.

I have zero regrets of how I handled things with bodybuilding, parenting, work, finances, and relationships over the past 6-8 years. After my time on stage I took the easy way with food and cardio and trained with weights as i saw fit. (No pun intended) Priorities shifted and I’ve always been forward about who I am and what things take precedence. I’ve admitted to being a bit of a foodie or emotional eater. But I’m now ready to step things up a bit to see how much I’ll need to sacrifice to be more disciplined to achieve a leaner look and the behaviors that align with that.

This year for 2021 the goal is to push myself to see how much effort it will take and what I can give regularly to get me to a level I deseire to maintain. I’m focused on correcting or improving some behaviors and finding balance with consistency in training and nutrition.

As always I appreciate kindness, support, and constructive criticism. Remember, healthy looks different on every body!
