Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

I started The Voice Room Podcast because, as a voice, speech, and communication coach, I saw a gap in resources that focused on practical, everyday communication skills. Whether you’re speaking in a meeting, giving a presentation, or even having a conversation, how we use our voice and words matters. I wanted to create a space where people could learn tips and techniques to communicate with confidence, clarity, and impact.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

I hope listeners walk away with practical tools they can apply immediately to improve their speaking and communication. Whether it’s finding your authentic voice, mastering body language, or learning how to present with confidence, I want every episode to provide real value. The goal is for listeners to feel more empowered in their personal and professional lives, using their voice as their superpower.

Which episode should someone start with?

I recommend starting with the episode titled “How to Keep an Audience Hooked in 30 Seconds.” It’s packed with practical advice on how to grab attention right from the start—whether you're speaking in front of a crowd or in a meeting. It sets the tone for the kind of actionable tips you can expect from every episode.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

One of my favorite episodes is “I feel that my boss speaks better than me.” In this episode, we dive into why we often compare ourselves to others and how to improve our speaking presence. I love it because it’s both relatable and practical, and it addresses a common insecurity many face when it comes to communication.

Which episode are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of “Communication and Dating: What It Really Means.” It’s a topic that’s often overlooked in the professional realm, but it's incredibly impactful. The episode highlights how our voice and non-verbal communication play a huge role in building connections, not just in work settings but in personal relationships as well.

What is your vision for your show?

The vision for The Voice Room Podcast is to become a trusted resource for anyone looking to improve their communication skills. I want the show to inspire people to communicate with confidence and authenticity in any situation. Whether it's for public speaking, leadership, or personal relationships, I want to equip listeners with the skills they need to show up powerfully in their lives.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

My favorite podcast, other than my own, is Jay Shetty’s "On Purpose" podcast. I love how Jay brings on insightful guests and dives into topics that really make you reflect on personal growth, relationships, and living a purposeful life. It’s always inspiring, and the way he communicates is incredibly powerful.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

The name The Voice Room was inspired by the idea that your voice is the most powerful tool you have for connection and communication. It’s also a nod to the physical space where people work on improving their voices—whether it's in a practice room, a stage, or even a virtual meeting room. The name reflects the journey of mastering how you sound and how you show up in the world.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m Carina Tien, a voice, speech, and communication coach with over 10 years of experience. I help people speak with more confidence, clarity, and impact—whether they’re delivering a keynote, leading a team, or navigating everyday conversations. I’m also the host of The Voice Room Podcast, where I share actionable tips and insights to help people communicate more effectively. When I’m not coaching or podcasting, I love learning new things, exploring creative ideas, and connecting with people who
