The StickyBeak - The Knocker-Upper revisited
play

04/22/25 • 7 min

Today we’re turning the clock back to the Industrial Revolution, a time when the world was changing at a breakneck pace, and with it, the way people lived and worked. In this episode, we’re exploring the curious yet almost forgotten profession of... the knocker-upper—a job that was essential in waking up an entire nation, long before the invention of alarm clocks.

The StickyBeak - India's Only Female Sumo Wrestler revisited
play

04/29/25 • 27 min

Today we're revisiting one of the very first episodes of the pod. It’s a conversation with the legendary... Hetal Dave! She’s India’s first and only female sumo wrestler. Absolutely inspiring, she has such an amazing story, there was even a biopic made about her last year. Just a quick one before we get started - as Hetal lives in the middle of Mumbai, you can hear some background noises – personally I think it makes it more immersive. Hopefully you do too. Enjoy!

The StickyBeak - Wizard and Primate of Church of All Worlds
play

02/27/24 • 43 min

Hello – welcome back to the “with Mon” podcast! This week’s a bit of a special one, I’ve been “rummaging” through some of my old interviews and found a conversation I had with the extraordinary Oberon Zell. Genuinely one of THE most interesting people I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with. He’s an artist, teacher, author. He’s also a wizard, and the Founder and Primate of the Church of All Worlds. We recorded this chat right in the thick of the pandemic – which is wild, it feels like so long ago now. We cover SO many interesting topics, I’m not even going to try and summarise it for you now because it really is best if you hear straight from the conversation. So settle, because you really are in for a treat.

The StickyBeak - Vagina Dentata

Vagina Dentata

The StickyBeak

play

02/25/25 • 16 min

For centuries, whispers of Vagina Dentata—the myth of the toothed vagina—have haunted folklore, warning of man-eating wombs and flesh-shredding femmes fatales. But beneath the horror lies something deeper: a story about power, fear, and control.

In this episode of The StickyBeak, we rip into the origins of this myth, from ancient cautionary tales to its lasting grip on pop culture. We’ll explore its role as both a weapon and a warning, and dissect the hidden messages behind the fangs.

So brace yourself—because this one has some serious bite. 😏

🔊 Sink your teeth in now!

The StickyBeak - White Eagle Lodge - Gay Robinson
play

12/08/20 • 29 min

Welcome back to another episode of Dying with Mon. I’m honored to have you on this journey with me as we explore what death means to people from different religions and movements.

As you will soon find out we had a lot of tech issues to begin with, on the day we recorded there was some pretty stormy weather around. But we persevered, and with a little help from Gay’s friend Steve we managed to record this episode – and I’m so glad we did!

If you’re like me and you’ve never heard of the White Eagle Lodge, I guarantee you are going to find this conversation absolutely fascinating. Gay was so generous with her time and just has this very calming way about her. If you find yourself feeling scared or worried about death and dying, I think this chat could give you a bit of peace of mind.

The StickyBeak - Church of All Worlds - Oberon Zell
play

11/24/20 • 45 min

Hello – thank you so much for clicking on this podcast! I am SO excited to share with you episode 1 of Dying with Mon 💀

Obviously this year with the pandemic, death has been a huge subject. Even if you’ve never had someone close to you pass away, this year in particular - death has been highlighted around the world. Whether we like it or not it’s taken over our screens and our conversations. So why on earth would I dedicate an entire series to it? Well if you’re anything like me, and you find the idea of death scary or confronting – these conversations might make you feel a bit better. Or maybe you enjoy the topic and find it really interesting – either way, this series is for you. We’re going on a journey through life, death – and potentially an afterlife through the lenses of different religions and movements.

For our very first episode we sit down with the Founder of the Church of All Worlds, Oberon Zell. If you haven’t heard of him, you are certainly in for a treat. We speak about everything from starting the church in the 60’s to how his wife – Morning Glory came up with the term polyamory to describe her relationship with Oberon and their five way marriage. We also chat about past lives the afterlife and everything in between. He is an incredibly insightful guy and it was just so lovely chatting with him. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Happy listening!

The StickyBeak - Testa di Moro - a Sicilian legend
play

07/23/24 • 10 min

Today's episode came to be after a recent trip to Mondello, Sicily. We kept seeing these flower pots in the shape of heads - they were everywhere.

So I did a bit of Googling and found out these vases originate come from a legend called Testa di Moro – a tale of love, betrayal and revenge.

The StickyBeak - Hare Krishna Movement - Bhakta Dasa
play

12/01/20 • 51 min

This week on Dying with Mon I am just thrilled to be speaking with Brahmin Priest and the Communications Officer for ISKON Australia – Bhakta Dasa.

I knew a little bit about the Hare Krishna movement, but coming out of this conversation I have a whole new outlook.

We cover everything from the history of the movement to Hare Krishna customs and traditions, and what devotees believe happen when we die.

Just FYI, this was recorded before Victoria came out of their strict lockdown, Bhakta is based in Melbourne and there are a few references in there - so just keep that in mind.

If you are enjoying this series so far a rating and a review would be much appreciated! It helps get this little show out there and I would be SO grateful.

Happy listening!

The StickyBeak - Polyamory

Polyamory

The StickyBeak

play

08/27/24 • 42 min

You might recognise his name, Oberon Zell. I’ve had him on the pod before, he’s incredibly interesting. He identities as many things, including as an artist, author and a teacher. He’s also a wizard and is the headmaster of The School of Wizardry. On top of all of this he’s also the Founder and First Primate of the Church of worlds... Aaand he’s polyamorous. In fact his life-mate, Morning Glory actually coined the term Polyamory!

Genuinely this is one of my favourite conversations. Our chat was recorded about three years ago in the midst of a global covid lockdown. A lot has happened since then, so at the end of this ep I’ll pop back in and give you a bit of an update on Oberon. For now though, please enjoy my conversation with the wonderful Oberon Zell.

The StickyBeak - Resusci Anne revisited
play

05/13/25 • 9 min

Today I'm going to take your breath away - because we're delving into the history of the resuscitation doll mask, affectionally known as... Resusci Anne.

I'm not going to lie it's a pretty sad story, but the ending feels pretty positive - plus I found it absolutely fascinating! I hope you enjoy it!
