Watch/listen to the You, Me & Capris, our GOTY! It will be live for Patrons on December 28th everywhere else on December 31st! Reading From the Sacred Texts Our Favorite RPGs We Played In 2021! Nick Fitkin @NickRahl - Thanks to you guys I played Tales of Arise! I didn’t have anything even come close to that in terms of best RPG, I’d probably say Endwalker too but these queues have stopped me from finishing it so far TPR - Hey y’all! This response may break a couple rules in that this game didn’t come out in 2021, but I played it this year, and it is debatable if this game is an action brawler or an action RPG, but alas, Yakuza Kiwami 2 for me! The writing, new combat, and visuals from seeing the dragon engine in action myself for the first time was truly amazing. It probably is now my second favorite yakuza game I’ve played so far, just behind yakuza 0, and I’ve already started yakuza 3. I will be starting SMT 5 in the next few days after picking the steelbook up for nearly 50% off, maybe it makes a last minute push for me. Cheers! Hoppel - For me it's "Yakuza like a dragon", because it was played in 2021. Followed by Psychonauts 2 and Mass Effect 1 (Legendary Edition) Grrouchie Surge - Best RPGs I am playing this year: Steamworld Quest, Yakuza like a Dragon (still playing) Marcus O'neill - The best RPG I played this year was..... Chrono Trigger. After listening to your episode earlier this year I finally decided to knock this one off my list. And all the praise it gets is well-deserved. A definite classic..... As for RPGs that were released this year, I haven't played many but I really dug Echo Generation. The elevator pitch is it’s Earthbound meets Stranger Things. It had a fun sci-fi/horror story, with a cool voxel art style and, at times, challenging turn-based combat. It’s short too, which as a new parent with limited gaming time is much appreciated! Nick Faulhaber - Best RPG I played this year was Nier: Automata. Just got around to scratching it off the backlog list and it was incredible! Reading From The Sacred Texts Working Designs Facts Their legacy, what Working Designs did for the industry Party Up! Delroy @jdelroyc - Have you ever “played” a single player RPG with someone else? Passing the controller, sharing a save, or simply watching along? When I was younger, my “not a gamer” sister and I would play through RPGs like Suikoden II and Lunar together, her reading the text aloud and me playing. It was an amazing bonding experience and one I still recall fondly. RPGs are one of the e few genres that allow this type of engagement that can be incredibly rewarding for people who don’t traditionally enjoy games or are not actively playing. The_WinterGamer - I just upgraded to a Series S, what RPG would you suggest one should try through gamepass that would def use the benefit of being on a faster console Gilgamesh - I was introduced to The Witcher through the Leshen crossover event with Monster Hunter World, and it is without question my favorite fight in that game. The music just fit so well, and the fight was fantastic. General RPG Question: Since I missed the Monster Hunter episode, I don't know if this should go in a Witcher/Crossover/Boss Fights video, but what unique boss fight from any RPG, or non RPG franchise would you like to see cross over to any other RPG franchise? Bonus points if they have their own music that just fits. My pick would be the Secret of Mana: Dark Lich boss crossed into Dark Souls 3. Reading From The Sacred Texts Final Fantasy VII Facts Best place to play Mechanics Spinoffs/Movies Final Fantasy VII Remake AskWhatNotWhy - Oh so many questions about FF7 (RYAN WILL RECORD AN INSERT ANSWERING THE SPOILER QUESTIONS): Do you think it’s overrated? What do you think it is about this game that has stolen so many peoples hearts? (#Persona5Reference) What is your favorite part of FF7? What is your least favorite part? Do you like the changes they made to FF7Remake? Who is your favorite FF7 character? Is this your favorite FF game? Mike @BlazeKnight0923 - Final Fantasy VII is a certified phenomenon, from movies, to remakes, to spin offs. One such spin off was Dirge of Cerberus on the PS2. What do you make of Square Enix's choice to give a lead roll to an optional character in this sequel game? FamousSeumas - Do you think Square Enix rely too much on FF7? We have multiple games, like Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus; there's Advent Children and Last Order. And let's not forget all cameos in Kingdom Hearts, Cloud appearing in multiple fighting games, the unlockable (and sometimes pre-orders bonus) FF7 costumes and weapons in some other FF games. And now the remake. How long do you think Square can rely on FF7 before people are sick of it? Party Up! hoby1k @hoby1k - FFVII classic (I have not played remake) is one of my least favorite main series Final Fantasy games. However, Crisis Core is one of my favorite JRPGs. Have you ever found yourself liking a spin-off game better than it’s original? Greg @InnocentPrinny - Do you hunt trophies/achievements in RPGs? Is there a favorite or least favorite type of trophy? (I’m usually not fond of collecting every item or anything that requires multiple play through of long games.) What is your favorite plat trophy or 100%? Adam (A.J.) Sandoval @AnimeGamingLift - What is your favorite forgotten RPG series? Mine is Legend of Legaia. This week on the fortieth level of The RPG Cave, Garret and Ryan talk about their favorite RPGs that take place in non-traditional settings.

Clearing the Dungeon

Reading From the Sacred Texts

  • marcusoneill79 - I’ve been ruminating on this one for a while now. Most RPGs take place in fantasy/sci-fi settings. What are some of your fav non-traditional settings for RPGs. Are there any settings that you haven’t seen (or are underrepresented in the genre) that you’d like to see a game take place in? I’d love to see a good Wild West rpg.

Party Up!

  • TPR - I think my favorite RPG setting is the Hunter's Nightmare in Bloodborne. This is only accessible in the Old Hunters DLC. the Hunter's Nightmare was always alluded to in item descriptions and game lore, but to see it actually implemented in the DLC, and how it's a warped version of the Victorian locations we're familiar with in the base game, is quite engaging...and completely terrifying. If you thought the base game was disturbing, the creatures that rampage over this portion are much worse. As sufferable as it may sound, it is my most memorable. It truly encapsulates what it feels like to be in a nightmare based from your own surroundings in reality. Do either of you prefer settings that are grounded in some anchor of reality, or do you like it when things go off the rails into complete fantasy, or both? I have to say the absolute scale and epic grandeur that is Xenoblade 2's fantasy-like Alrest cannot be understated, gotta get back to that game at some point

Reading From The Sacred Texts Mana Series Facts Best Place to start FamousSeumas - What is the best entry point to get someone into the Mana series? The Legend of West3DP @West3DP - Playing through the collection of Mana right now on switch. Messing the end of Secret of Mana. Did any of you play this growing up or later in life? It can be brutally hard and confusing on where to go. Also just want to share I named my characters Zygard, Crysta, and Lucyfr Mechanics Where do we want the series to go from here? GilgameshOfAlvara @GilgameshAlvara - Secret of Mana was the first RPG I really got into when I was a kid, because of that, it holds a strong place as my favorite in the series. With all the recent releases we have been seeing, do you think a new Mana game is on the way? If so, what do you think it will look like? Mike @BlazeKnight0923 - Why do you think the Secret of Mana PS4/PC exclusive remake was poorly received by fan base? It looked great to me on the sidelines (no PS4 or powerful PC). The Legend of West3DP @West3DP - How do you feel the remakes compare to the originals Party Up! GilgameshOfAlvara @GilgameshAlvara - If I am not too late, what is one unique thing you have seen Indie devs put in their RPGs that you would like to see AAA devs adopt? And visa-verse, what is something you wish more Indie devs would do that is more common in AAA titles? Brendan Myers @TheWinterGamer - What are some game franchises that you would wanna see take their own spin of a JRPG?
