We love snacks, especially eating them in a dark movie theater! But how did noisy, crunchy popcorn even become a snack to begin with and how much was everyone paying for it through the '90s decade? It sounds silly but there's so much to unpop..err..unpack here and we have the Great Depression to thank for it! Coming out of the '80s popcorn was $0.75 and a drink was about $1. Then in 1994 it was said that, "The scariest thing at the movies isn't Jason or Freddy...it's popcorn!" Wait til' you hear why!
Grab your $22 in 2022 movie theater popcorn and let's go back to a time when the Great Depression paved the way for theater snacks, the first movie theater in 1905 was called the Nickelodeon, and in 1994 our mom's were turning up their noses to the popped snack and instead probably reading their Atkin's diet manuals.
