Lisa Curtis, LCSW, CASAC, HWC is not, as she has said more and more publicly, not your traditional therapist. Trained as a social worker (Masters of Science Social Work, Columbia University) with a credential in alcohol and substance abuse counseling, in addition to training as a health and wellness coach, she brings some unique qualifications to her work. Lisa believes sitting with her clients, and being present with them, is not about finding ‘the answer’. Additional training in first responder trauma, sleep behavior medicine, forward-facing trauma treatment, and extensive knowledge of substance use disorders, lend themselves to a variety of skills to introduce to clients. Lisa is a frank speaking, ‘call it like she sees it’ kind of clinician who relates to her client’s no-nonsense, boots-on-the-ground view of life. That being said, she’s also passionate about making sure those she works with get the support and guidance they can benefit from.

She grew up dreaming of the day she would become an entrepreneur, and studied business but took a safe job working for someone else. 9-5 work became challenging when she became a mom and with a lack of daycare, she was thrown into entrepreneurship overnight to support her family. She started with what she did best, growing entrepreneurs’ online presence, but quickly found that business owners needed more than regular content, they needed support. Through consultations and coaching, she began helping women ignite their business growth and share the passion that started it all. One year later, she’s been able to support over 20 businesses, launch a podcast and start introducing DIY products and courses to help women go from dreamer to entrepreneur and entrepreneur to ambitious CEO.

Courageous Conversations & The Journey of Authentic Friendship
The Fire Inside Her; Self Care for Navigating Change
02/22/23 • 44 min
Diane’s father told her a person could count their true friends on one hand and probably have some fingers left over, of course, with most advice that her dad gave her growing up, she didn't think that was true. Over the years, as she looked back on her friendships- she realized he was right. It’s helped her to come to learn the importance of those friendships. The people that you can be authentic with, the ones that you can have courageous conversations with, that will be honest with you (even when it stings a little), are the most valuable connections you can strive for.
Today on The Fire Inside Her, you get to meet one of Diane’s oldest and dearest friends, whom she would truly place in the “ride or die” category. As they chat, you will learn more about where they grew up, the things they’ve been through together, and some things they have learned to value in their friendship. You will also get glimpses of a woman Diane values and admires, partially because of her ability to show up bravely and be herself. They touch on the importance of who you have at your table, the moments you need to value as they occur (because they quickly slip by), and what makes a community. They reflect a bit on parenting, the need to give back, the ways we define ourselves, and how to navigate the seasons of our lives. They even take small glances at trauma and privilege two very different actors that can affect us in ways we often don’t recognize. There is much to be gained by joining this valuable conversation.

Michele Johnston was raised within the confines of a strict religious ideology that delineated a clear image of the perfect wife, mother, and woman. Influenced by her mentors, teachers, and above all, her mother, Michele formed a vision of herself as the ideal housewife, devoted solely to family and homemaking. This traditional path was something she eagerly anticipated and considered her ultimate purpose in life.
However, as she reached the age of 18, Michele began to break away from these rigid expectations. In hindsight, she recognizes this period of rebellion as the first time she truly connected with her own identity, distinct from the roles she had been conditioned to fulfill. Through this pivotal experience, Michele embarked on a journey of self-discovery, uncovering who she really was beyond the expectations placed upon her.
