Community is important in every aspect of life...even in homeschooling.
This doesn't mean you have to be involved in a co-op or homeschool group in your local area (although that CAN enrich your experience), but it DOES mean that finding your 'people' (either in-person or online) IS important.
Social media can get a bad rap (many times deserved) but it is a GREAT way to find new ideas, hear differing perspectives, and (if you're following uplifting accounts) see solutions you never would've considered (or even heard about) before!
With ALL these things in mind, and in an attempt to REALLY serve the mommas in our community, we've asked our good friend, fellow homeschool momma, and former co-op co-teacher Renee Amato to join us in asking (and answering) questions about two systems Brittany uses daily in her homeschool!

6. Habits
The Deliberate Day Podcast | Taming the chaos of big family life for moms of many
01/17/22 • 14 min
"You are making something, you are making yourself."
-Donald Miller
How are we making ourselves? We are making ourselves with HABITS!
According to the Google, a habit is a "routine behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously."
Whether you realize it or not, you have habits. Good or bad, there are routine behaviors that fill your days. The key is to begin to CHOOSE more of those behaviors.
When we CHOOSE our habits, we can align them with our mini-goals, and ultimately our big goals and our why.
When we CHOOSE our habits, we can select to perform actions that are kind to tomorrow's us!
So, HOW do we CHOOSE our ONE (only ONE) new habit?
1. First, head over to https://www.deliberatedayjournal.com and get your Deliberate Start Guide (FREE)! This will help you REFLECT on key areas, ASSESS what you want in the future, and CREATE new goals aligned with your why!
2. Think of activities that align with your goals AND lend to a kindness to your future self.
3. Choose ONE (yes, only ONE) habit to start. Bonus points if you choose something that makes progress in more than one area (such as waking up early in the morning, or exercising with your people).
HOW do we START a new habit?
1. Consider things you are already doing. (Waking up, eating meals, picking kids up from school, nap time, etc).
2. Get creative, and consider your season of life. Maybe "reading" more for you right now looks a lot less like you sitting in your favorite chair for hours at a time, and a lot more like you enjoying an audible book on your way to the carpool line.
3. Start SMALL. Start with ONE (max two-if you are an overachiever). Do not overwhelm yourself. Lasting change happens in 1% increments. Be the turtle.
So! Go to https://www.deliberatedayjournal.com and get your FREE Deliberate START guide! If you need a good Habit Tracker, there is a fantastic page in the Deliberate Day Journal (which can also be found at the link above).

84. Two True Stories of Well Behaved Women
The Deliberate Day Podcast | Taming the chaos of big family life for moms of many
05/14/23 • 9 min
You've probably heard the quote, "Well-behaved women seldom make history", but you might be surprised by what Laurel Thatcher Ulrich really meant by this statement, and once you hear it you'll never be able to hear this quote the same way.
Thatcher, a historian, author, educator, and mother of 5 dedicated her work to telling the quiet stories of ordinary people...and she won a Pulitzer Prize for it. Because, as she states, “it is in the very dailiness, the exhaustive, repetitious dailiness, that the real power lies... living has to be measured in doing.” and mommas...our lives are a very measure in doing, and doing, and doing.
Often this quote is misunderstood to mean that in order to change the world and make a difference we must be aggressive, loud, and bold...but it was merely to share that the quiet and compliant contributions of women rarely get attention or credit for their accomplishments. That's us mommas. We're living that truth every single day, because what we do. It matters. Oh man does it matter.
In our new series, "Just" a Mom, we are celebrating the beautiful stories of ordinary, well-behaved women...who we know are far more than what we see at first glance. The lives we are living have incredible beauty and power in them, and we want to share them with the world.
Welcome to the ‘Just a Mom’ Series...

99. From Summer to School Without Losing Your Cool
The Deliberate Day Podcast | Taming the chaos of big family life for moms of many
07/17/23 • 44 min
Summer is the time of year that everything goes off plan...even when you've taken time to plan well...you're still off routine and flying by the seat of your pants.
Asking yourself and your kids to go from that to perfectly planned days is madness...we need a transition period. Because it's a TRANSITION! And all life transitions need a bit more love in our opinion.
Whether you homeschool, public-school, private-school, or even no-school (I'm talking about our toddler moms). Summer shakes things up for everybody! It gets dark at different times, family and friends are visiting, the weather is changing, the activities ramp up...it really doesn't matter what stage of life you're in...life gets crazy in summer.

83. Survival-How to Lean-In
The Deliberate Day Podcast | Taming the chaos of big family life for moms of many
05/08/23 • 40 min
We're starting out today with a question...How are you? Really? Momma?
If you answered with I'm so tired...or overwhelmed...or I'm surviving...but barely...
We've got you.
We did some digging this week to talk about what has been commonly coined as "Survival mode" in motherhood...and we came up with some surprising insight...
First of all in our humble opinion...survival mode isn't just a mode, it's a season
Which is good news! Because if you're in a season of survival, it means it won't last forever.
The downside here is that because our motherhood is seasonal....new challenges can throw us back into a season of survival...
But what IF a season of survival isn't a BAD thing...but just a different season...and one that we can lean-in to?
Hear us out! I know that sounds trite...But it's very possible this new outlook might be exactly what you need to SURVIVE a season of survival.
- A Season of Survival (01:07)
- How Seasons of Survival Have Showed Up in Our Lives (02:30)
- Leaning-In During Seasons of Survival (06:45)
- Recap (38:30)
- Invitation (39:27)
We're starting a new Podcast Series and we are SO excited about it! It's called "Just" A Mom...and that's because no mom is "just" a mom...We really believe that mothers hold INCREDIBLE wisdom and knowledge and we want to tap into it and share it! Because we ALL have amazing stories, triumphs, challenges, and beauty to share with the world! We want to share these lessons, stories, struggles, and wins from moms of all types.
So many of the mommas we've been blessed to meet feel like their ordinary lives aren't anything interesting to share, but....we're here to tell you, that couldn't be further from the truth. Your story could be exactly what another mother needs right now. So, if you know a mother, or you have a story to share, please reach out to us on Instagram @thedeliberateday.
