The Cricket Slouch

The Cricket Slouch

SP

A fun cricket podcast by a group of friends, who worship at the altar of the 22-yard strip bookended by 3 sticks. We love to talk cricket, have a laugh, include new people, express some polarising opinions (perhaps) and hope to help spread the word of the sport to far reaching corners. We try to keep it as kosher as we can, but there may be a few expletives every now and then. Huge thanks to Noman W and Umangi H for the brilliant podcast cover art. Tune composed using Garage Band and limited imagination.

Hello all, The Cricket Slouch podcast is back with a broad post-mortem review of New Zealand's historical whitewash over India in India.

I am joined by Shounak and Aryan in dissecting what NZ did well and where India fell behind in this series and wondering what may have been if certain events had panned out differently.

Whilst NZ did the basics well, this series loss was a perfect storm of things going wrong for the Indian side and we ponder whether this side is now ready to transition towards youngsters. We talk a little about the squad for the BGT and how India are likely to perform there.

Take away message - Paternal obligations are the secret to away wins !

Shounak writes features for Emerging Cricket.

Aryan writes match reports and feature articles for Guerilla Cricket.

Hello everyone. In this episode, I am joined by a new guest, Aryan Surana, who writes regularly for Guerrilla Cricket’s website, and occasionally tweets. He had also started Cricket Beyond Borders, a podcast that has sadly gone MIA for a while now.

We talk about the Indian squad in some depth and Aryan shares his views and observations about the players from the recent IPL, as well as talking about the most likely combination for the playing XI, the role of the spinners, and most likely approach of the team, on their way to the semis.. He isn't confident of predicting beyond that.

Please enjoy the discussion and feel free to write to us at our X/Twitter handle - The Cricket Slouch

The Cricket Slouch - The one with the Ten Commandments.
play

11/26/22 • 95 min

In this episode I sit with Nitesh of the Broken Cricket Dreams blog to discuss his Open Letter to BCCI and the Ten Commandments a few friends and I came up with in 2011. Although this is specifically targeted at the BCCI and Indian cricket in general, I suppose the template can fit any team as we have seen from England's example. The Ten Commandments are - 1) To get rid of partial, biased zonal selectors and impose limitations on tenure based on results.2) Personnel at the top, such as coaches, to be based on qualifications, and to consider different coaches for tests and ODIs. Also having at least one former cricketer on the Board.3) Preparing a diverse range of pitches and having at least two major national venues to assist pace, and at least one in every State.4) Improvement in resources for the domestic games, optimising facilities at NCA and collaborating with specialists such as MRF Pace academy.5) Selection of the team based on form rather than reputation, no automatic for seniors.6) Horses for courses policy in selecting the playing XI and to be flexible with this depending on venue.7) Regular matches overseas and home for the Colts and A sides.8) Transition pathway for emerging players to make it to the national side, and using series against weaker teams to test them out.9) Encouraging players to play in the county league, or similar, to gain valuable experience. 10) To plan for major tournaments and series about a year in advance and to breed a mentality of winning and team-comes-first attitude.
