The Coaching Crowd® Podcast with Jo Wheatley & Zoe Hawkins

In this week's episode we are discussing overcoming barriers to learning. When learning as an adult we acknowledge that there are lots of reasons that barriers might occur

We talk about:

  • some of the beliefs people have that hold them back from learning
  • how barriers can often be invisible or held without the student knowing
  • clear barriers to learning that a student is able to articulate from a poor experience in childhood in the classroom through to identifiable learning needs
  • the importance of identity and safety
  • how we can help clients to identify resistance and barriers
  • how we can help people to build in confidence in you as a coach

It is important to be able to identify your own barriers to learning as well as supporting others to identify and overcome them. Our beliefs around learning can be detrimental to our desire to learn so it is important that we take as many barriers into account as possible. In making our courses accessible we are giving our students or coachees an opportunity to have a positive experience and thrive.

072 Tailoring Your Coaching Approach

In today’s episode we are discussing how you can tailor your coaching approach in order to become a world class and ethical coach.

We talk about:

  • How your clients get better results and more of a transformation through tailoring your approach with them
  • How you can understand your clients needs at the start of your coaching relationship and also acknowledge any changing needs
  • The importance of listening to how your client experiences the world in order to be able to adapt to them
  • The power of questions and how they can support this process
  • Why boundaries are important
  • Alternative ways to engage with coaching

It is clear that a one size fits all approach does not work in the world of coaching if you want to be an effective coach. The more you work with your client it is likely that you will be able to tailor your approach to meet their needs. Have you considered the different ways in which you can adapt your coaching style to the needs of your clients? Are there any barriers you have come across?
