"Friends Against Scams" -preventing you from becoming a victim of fraudsters pretending to be friends and family members on your Whatsapp chats. "Stop. Think. Call" is a venture from the National Trading Standards Scams Team initiative! What is "Friends Against Scams" hoping to achieve?

The people at National Trading Standards that sit behind "Friends Against Scams" want to make cyber criminals' lives harder by educating people about the types of scams they may be tempted into falling for.

Mark Riddell, host of the Techcess technology podcast has become concerned over some recent research and data recently surrounding scams on Whatsapp.

There was one very high profile incident reported by the BBC recently, and Mark breaks it down during this episode of Techcess.

Mark's concerned that this scam could become particularly common during the Christmas and overall festive season when cyber criminals are trying their best to take advantage of lonely or isolated people that don't have anyone else around them at certain times of the year.

In recent days, cyber criminals have been using this new Whatsapp method to contact users, such as the incident mentioned with pretending to be the victims' grandchildren in need of urgent financial help.

There have even been cases of scammers pretending to be a friend or family member who's claiming to be incarcerated abroad after being arrested for possession of drugs as a way to coax help from unsuspecting family members.

Your website homepage isn't 'About' you - so listen to this episode to learn about all the required changes! Are your website's home page and about page ready for Techcess

On this episode of Techcess, m3 Networks Managing Director Mark Riddell talks all things website design and conversion rates with digital expert David Dwyer from Inspire Digital Agency.

No spoilers, but one of the main takeaways from their discussion is that your website should be transparent about your pricing.

Marcus Sheridan, known as 'the pool guy', pioneered an approach a few years ago with his book "They Ask, You Answer" and it has been gaining in popularity ever since.

And our own Mark Riddell is a big fan of Sheridan's insights, which is why we talk about him on this episode.

In addition to transparency, there are other important factors that will help convert visitors into customers.

Keep listening to find out what they are!

What are website conversions?

When someone visits your website, you want them to take some sort of desired action. This is called a conversion. Some common conversions are filling out a form, subscribing to a newsletter, or making a purchase.

There are many factors that go into whether or not a visitor will convert, including the design of your website, the copy on your pages, and the offers you present. If you want to increase your conversion rate, you need to focus on creating a positive user experience and providing incentives for visitors to take action.

You also need to track your conversions so that you can measure the effectiveness of your efforts. There are many tools and services available that can help you do this. Use the data that you gather to make changes to your website and continue to test different approaches until you find what works best for you.

Optimising your homepage

What should be on your home page?

This is the big question.

Your home page is the first impression that potential customers will have of your business, so it's important to make sure it represents your brand well.

In this episode of "Techcess" David Dwyer explains to Mark what a great home page looks like, and how you can achieve it.

Why you don't want a simple website builder like Wix or Squarespace

David Dwyer from Inspire Digital Agency advises against using a website builder like Wix or Squarespace because they don't have the customers best interests in mind. He recommends that businesses focus on creating a positive user experience in order to increase their conversion rate.

Listen to hear him explain how you can ensure your website is doing that.

When it comes to your cyber security, "every little helps!" In this episode of "Techcess", m3 Networks' Mark Riddell talks us through the major cyber attack on Tesco and how it caused a nationwide outage for an entire day! What was the problem?

Tesco said "an attempt was made to interfere with our systems, which caused problems with the search function on the site."

In this episode, you'll hear Mark describe what probably happened.

He'll challenge the official line issued by Tesco, and offer a speculative idea of what he thinks they might have actually meant.

How long did this incident last for?

The outage lasted from Saturday morning until Sunday evening according to the company's Twitter account.

How much did this cost Tesco?

It's not yet known how much Tesco lost in this cyber attack, but the company is known to receive 1.3m online orders every week.

So you can do the math on the financial impact this outage will have had on the supermarket chain's revenue.

Tesco said there had been no data breach or theft of data and that no money has gone missing.

In what other ways can cyber attacks cause loss to a business?

A data breach or theft of data is obvious, but the financial impact of a cyber attack may be harder to realise than simple loss of orders.

Yes, an outage as a result of a cyber attack causes monetary losses for the business due to lower revenue, but as Mark explains in this episode, there are other long term financial impacts of such an attack.

We'll leave you to listen to learn more about this, but hint - it's not a great way of maintaining customer loyalty...

Oh, and there's a shout out to Amelia Paro when Mark talks about the dark web. If you've not yet listened to that episode, you can do so here -

"Techcess" host Mark Riddell describes his podcasting journey, and offers insights on why he wanted to start creating the m3 Networks very own technology podcast!

The Techcess podcast

If you're wondering how to produce a technology podcast, then look no further. In this episode, the voice of the m3 Networks technology podcast Mark Riddell talks us through why he's created their very own podcast.

And, as is in keeping with the theme of the podcast's content, he decided it's better to tell you about it in his own words on the podcast, rather than in the form of a blog post!

So sit back and enjoy the ultimate behind-the-scenes 'look' (listen) into the making of "Techcess"!

A podcast episode all about podcasting

By now you've probably guessed it - this podcast episode is a little meta - it's all about host Mark Riddell and his process for putting together the weekly "Techcess" technology podcast.

Starting out with some history, this episode explains why Mark and his team wanted to start an insightful technology-themed podcast even before the pandemic struck!

Also covered are specific aspects such as the recording process, the structure, and the equipment he uses to get the podcast into your ears every single week.

History

Mark Riddell, technology expert and host of "Techcess", wanted to start a technology-themed podcast even before the pandemic started!

He felt that technology is part of everyone's lives in some shape or form whether it be professionally or personally, so having a technology themed podcast to help shape the image of m3 Networks as an insightful company seemed like a no-brainer.

Listen as Mark describes how he went about setting the idea into motion, using professional help.

Guests

Even though it's just over two months old, the show has already interviewed some pretty big names in technology like Amelia Paro (dark web expert from ID Agent), Craig Allan (the 'Black Knight' from Different Mindset), and Robert Hall (phishing simulation expert).

All of these conversations are available to listen to right now, for free, on the Techcess page of our website https://m3networks.co.uk/techcess/

Back to this episode - you'll be able to learn all about Mark's process for choosing guests, and how he ensures they're able to bring you insight each week!

So what makes this podcast different?

Mark loves technology having immersed himself in it from a very young age, and is always up-to-date with it himself.

And he wants to share that obsession with like-minded contributors.

But he wants to make sure that the subject is covered in a fun way, and always makes sure to include a light-hearted Q&A in the "Techcess Ten"!

And with that, always rounding off what the guest feels is the secret to "Techcess".

Being a technology company m3 is hungry to always be ahead of the curve when it comes to technology - something Mark continues to work towards and demonstrate with every episode of Techcess.

It's m3 Networks' vision to be considered the go-to source of technology news and discussion!

The technology industry is constantly evolving and changing, and this technology news needs to be shared!

"Techcess", has been downloaded and listened to in countries all around the world - including UK, US, Australia, India, Germany, Spain... and many more!

Just one of the many things the team behind "Techcess" do to make their content is of the highest quality is outsourcing production - using

We're following on from the previous episode with Robert Hall.

Did you manage to catch it yet?

It's possible you might want to listen to that episode of the Techcess technology podcast first. If so, click here.

We will be discussing ways that someone may try to use technology to socially engineer you through your computer or mobile devices.

As always, we are continuing our series of technology in success themed podcast episodes by helping you to understand the impact and importance of technology and its contribution towards your business success.

The most common social engineering attacks work because they abuse people's trust in authority figures or by appealing to their sense of greed or curiosity.

Mark will be deep diving into some of the red flags associated with social engineering attacks, and the steps you can take to protect yourself against social engineering attempts.

Technology is revolutionising the way we engage customers, suppliers and employees across all parts of our business processes.

Is social engineering enough to trick some people into clicking the links and opening the attachments within?

So, what are the social engineering techniques used for hacking purposes?

And why are they effective, especially in these cases?

These and more are questions are uncovered by this episode.

Social media has given everyone a voice but it comes with its risks.

So if you are looking for ways to ensure that technology becomes an enabler rather than an obstacle in driving your social engagement strategy forward, listen to this podcast episode now.

Techcess' Mark Riddell and 'The Black Knight' - discussing shadow I.T., company values and MSPs!

This episode, Mark Riddell of m3 Networks is joined by 'The Black Knight' Craig Allan of Different Mindset.

They discuss managed service providers (MSP) and why they may or may not be a good fit for your business.

They break down all aspects, such as shadow I.T. and how it can affect the relationship between the managed service provider (MSP) and their customers.

A managed service provider is a company which manages IT infrastructure for businesses.

It can include services such as cloud hosting, managed security services, managed IT support etc and enable less technical staff within a business to access help with issues without calling the supplier.

As someone with a wealth of experience working with teams who have used MSP, 'The Black Knight' has a lot to say on the subject!

When it comes to managed services, what the customer wants it to be and what it actually is can be two totally different things.

In this episode, Mark and Craig deep dive into some of the implications of this, and discuss the rather mysterious sounding subject of 'shadow I.T'.

They also touch on what having a managed service provider can do for your business, and how to make it work with the company values.

How can I improve my chances of business Techcess with a VoIP system? When you're running a business, communication is super important for your overall Techcess.

How you communicate, both internally and externally, from your desk, can make or break your business relationships.

If you're not contactable, you can literally lose leads and profits which ultimately restrict the growth of the company.

For this reason, it's of the highest importance that you have a telephony system that not only works, but is reliable.

VoIP offers the answer to many of these problems and opportunities.

But how?

Today's convergent economy presents businesses with an unprecedented number of challenges.

These are:

  • Engaging with customers in a cost-effective manner
  • Keeping pace with rapid product development cycles.
  • Protecting digital rights and data from hackers.

All this is especially true if the business has its own mobile workforce or even mobile employees who work at home or on the road.

When each person works in their own way, it inevitably results in dropped calls.

And particularly at times when people are more likely to be away from the premises for extended times.

Like, say, Christmas time.

Which is only a few weeks away now...

This is why Mark Riddell thought it was about time we brought on an expert in VoIP (voice over IP) who can advise on how you can ensure your business is in full readiness with the best telephone solution for you.

Myles Leach joins us for this episode of Techcess.

For those who aren't familiar with his name, he is the MD of NFON.

NFON is a company that offers VoIP technology and telephony equipment across the UK.

Their job is helping businesses to stay in touch with their customers, even at the busiest periods.

Myles has more than 20 years of experience in technology and business, having come up through the ranks at telecoms giants such as Mercury Communications (Cable and Wireless).

Remember them?

Also, he has written some very informative articles about VoIP technology.

Seriously.

When it comes to VoIP, Myles knows his stuff!

In the episode he addresses some of the common FAQs around VoIP, including:

Whether or not you'll lose your features and functionality of your existing system if you choose to install it.

Whether it's going to cost you a lot more than you're currently paying for your telephone system.

The truth about what you might be paying for that you don't need!

Once you've had a listen to this latest episode of our Techcess technology podcast, you're probably going to want to get yourself hooked up with some VoIP treatment (see what we did there?!!)

You can get some free advice on exactly what you might need by booking a call, here.
