One of the biggest things podcasters are concerned about is growth. No matter how many listeners you may have, chances are...you want more. And why is that? Mainly because we believe the bigger the audience, the better the chance for monetization. Landing a big sponsor or advertiser is linked to audience size, so it makes sense.
The funny thing is we get so consumed with getting more listeners who haven't shown up to listen yet that we neglect the ones who already have. It's crazy...and definitely a subject we could talk about for days on end.
But let's keep the focus on growth. There are several ways to go about it...and they all point to bringing your listeners to another platform to engage with them. And, in addition to that, there's a very important approach to growing your audience that many podcasters overlook.
On Episode 135, Travis Brown and I break down a few ways you can grow your audience. Additionally, we cover the big one...the strategy you need to move to the top of your priority list if you want to grow your audience exponentially.

One of the big misconceptions in podcasting is that landing a celebrity or VIP guest is going to be the ticket to huge growth and EVERYONE discovering your podcast.
The truth is, while having a celebrity guest on your podcast can be a lot of fun and bring a ton of value to your audience, it's not going to make your show explode. There are several factors in play and it's important to manage your expectations when you land someone big for your podcast.
In Episode 130 of Pod Theory, Travis Brown and I are exploring the celebrity/VIP guest dynamic and what it truly brings to your podcast. While it may not make your show explode, there are a lot of positives it can deliver...all of which will help you develop as a host AND bring a new layer of greatness to your production.

Several years ago, before social media companies changed their algorithms and made it increasingly difficult to gain traction through organic strategies, it was not uncommon to hear that posting multiple times a day across various platforms was the best way to build your presence. Be present everywhere so people can find you everywhere, right?
Today, it's a little different. As I said, gaining traction from an organic standpoint on social media platforms is all but dead. Plus, there are so many platforms to be on...and each of them requires a different approach to sharing and engaging. Post the same content across all platforms and you've got nothing more than an echo chamber that serves no purpose.
In an attempt to bring some sanity to your life, Episode 131 is all about debunking the myth that you have to be present and active on EVERY social media platform in order for your podcast to grow. This is an outdated mindset, yet many believe it's still the way to roll.
Today, let's talk about a new approach: going all in on one platform and letting everyone find you there. If you're being told you need to be everywhere so people can find you, wouldn't it make sense that those people are everywhere and will find you if you're spending your time making one platform really, really good?
Travis Brown is the perfect guy to talk about this subject. He kills it on Instagram...and Instagram is where he's chose to spend his time. Take a listen to how Travis has built an incredible presence on Instagram, then go follow him on IG and see what he's up to.

Podcasting is great. It's a medium that's taken the world by storm and continues to prove itself as a platform capable of delivering results. I've gone all in on podcasting and, in addition to producing my own podcast that you're listening to this very moment, I also do podcast consulting, podcast production, and podcast booking and communications. These initiatives are designed to help professionals amplify their brand message and grow their audience in an effort to increase sales and awareness for their business.
The aforementioned are just a few of the positives of podcasting. But what about the negatives?
Like anything that has positives, there are some negatives as well. As much as we may want it to be, podcasting isn't just fresh flowers and cloud-free skies. And my goal with Pod Theory is to help you gain a complete understanding of the art and business of podcasting...good, bad...and ugly.
So, on that note, I bring you Episode 111 of Pod Theory and address some of the negatives of podcasting that you need to hear. The idea with this lesson is not to scare you away from podcasting, but more to give you a more complete look at what it takes to build a successful podcast.

Are you truly ready to jump in the deep end of the pool and launch a podcast that will help stimulate the growth of your brand?
The answer should be yes. BUT, if you want your podcast to succeed and not be like one of those shows that flatlines before you even have a chance to subscribe, it's important to build a solid foundation on which your podcast can grow for years.
In the world premiere installment of Pod Theory, I analyze the question of whether you should start a podcast and what you need to know in order to do so with confidence and purpose.

In addition to positioning yourself as a thought leader, putting a creative outlet into the world for amplifying your brand message, and turning listeners into customers, a brand podcast is a great tool for raising overall brand awareness. Brand awareness, of course, is the extent to which consumers are familiar with the distinctive qualities or image of a particular brand and the products and services they feature.

With your brand podcast, you take center stage and the floor is yours to do with what you wish. The best podcasts are the ones that solve problems, provide value, enhance knowledge, and communicate with the audience on a level that fuels their attraction to the brand as a whole. The brand podcasts that don't gain traction are the ones that come off as a long-form sales pitch or do nothing but speak about the products and services they offer.
In Episode 112 of Pod Theory, I'm going to share some thoughts on how to raise brand awareness through your podcast. This is yet another great function that your podcast can serve...if you execute effectively!

Finding a way to generate revenue from your podcast is one of the big motivators for podcast creators. However, it’s important to understand that podcasting is not a get rich quick scheme. Like so many digital initiatives, some people think this is possible. And when it doesn’t happen quick, these people move on to something else and try the same thing...and get the same result. It’s a vicious cycle.

All of that said, there are definitely ways to generate revenue with your podcast. There are three important points to keep in mind as you add monetization strategies to your efforts:

  • Focus on delivering value every episode you publish. This will make monetization easier as you grow
  • Be patient and deliberate with your strategies. Don’t get discouraged if an initiative doesn’t work right away
  • Put emphasis on building your audience. The more listeners you have, the more opportunities you have to monetize

In Episode 114 of Pod Theory, I'm going to share some strategies for how you can monetize your podcast. In reality, you can generate revenue from your podcast before your episodes even go live. This episode will help you find some strategies that will work for you and your show.
This episode also features another installment of PodDeck Pandemonium! If you haven't checked out PodDecks yet, you need to.
