SLP 148: Self Love Quicky – Living Above The Line
Self Love Podcast
01/26/22 • 12 min
The concept of living above the line and below the line is one of the most fundamental concepts in conscious living. When we are below the line we are often closed, defensive, and committed to being right. On the contrary, when we are living above the line we are more open, curious, and committed to learning. In this podcast we look at how we can make an effort to live more above the line.
Below the line behaviours often show up as a victimhood mentality or failure to take personal responsibility. When someone operates from below the line they view life through the lens of a victim, always being at the affect of life and interpreting it through a “to me” lens.
They are closed, defensive, and committed to being right. Below the line behaviours are common, in fact it is actually the default state of being for almost everyone. Because we’re so committed to being right, we can even fool ourselves into thinking that we’re above the line when we’re actually below the line!
When we’re below the line, we view ourselves as a victim and don’t take personal responsibility for our actions. This manifests itself in the below the line behaviours of denying, blaming, and making excuses which are all part of an attempt for our ego to defend itself by being right. This creates a negative feedback loop where our below the line behaviours influence our below the line thoughts, and vice versa.
Below the line thinking often shows up in our desire to be right. Being right allows us to protect our ego, which satisfies our survival instincts. Below the line behaviours typically lead to several ways of thinking or finding yourself saying things like:
It’s not my fault
I’m right
They’re wrong
I know everything there is to know about the situation
It has to happen my way
Sadly below the line behaviours and thinking do nothing to contribute to our success and joy. They distort our view of reality and hinder us from achieving our true potential.
Above the line behaviours show a real openness, a security in one’s self, and the taking on of personal responsibility. When someone operates from above the line they view life through the lens of a creator, as someone who is able to impact and learn from their environment, interpreting life through a “by me” lens.
They are more open, curious, and committed to learning. Above the line behaviour doesn’t necessarily come naturally to us, because we have to work hard to achieve above the line thinking and above the line behaviour. When we do though, above the line behaviour is about taking ownership, accountability, and responsibility for one’s actions.
Above the line thinking is best exemplified in our openness and eagerness to learn. When not hindered by the urge to defend our ego and always be right, we are able to investigate the world and our own actions with curiosity and joy. We have the freedom to critique and look into our own words and actions because we aren’t threatened by the possibility of being wrong. With this perspective in mind, above the line behaviours often play out with thinking in ways like:
What did I do to contribute to this?
What else might be going on in this situation that I’m not aware of?
What could I be doing differently?
How can I take ownership and responsibility for what is happening?
Above the line behaviours and thinking encourage and empower us to ask questions we might not like the answers to, but whose answers will ultimately help us.
Asking questions is evidence of above the line behaviour that transforms both personal relationships and large organizations. Just as below the line behaviour and thinking results in a negative feedback loop, above the line behaviour and thinking results in a positive feedback loop. Its impact snowballs and grows exponentially with time, which inevitably can take us from good to better to great!
Above the line behaviour means being open, curious, and committed to learning, and nearly all situations can be improved by approaching them with this perspective in mind.

SLP 130: Self Love Quicky – LIME Essential Oil
Self Love Podcast
11/24/21 • 7 min
Lime Essential Oil – Citrus Aurantifolia or Medica
If ever you are feeling like you need a little lift, an added spring in your step or a sense of ‘beam me up Scottie’ then the exquisite, fresh and uplifting aroma of lime oil is your number one go-to!
It is one of the most revered mood elevators. You cannot help but feel happy and invigorated by its appealing, sharp yet sweet, citrus scent. One drop on a cotton pad tucked into your top is a wonderful way to use your body as a human diffuser. Its beautiful scent will hit you at various times throughout the day and you may find yourself smiling with increased zest every time you inhale it.
Lime is refreshing and stimulating, activating and revitalising and much like lemon oil it can be used for its powerful cleansing qualities. A couple of drops on a damp cloth can help to remove stains, chewing gum and sticker residue.
Adding a few drops of this oil to a recipe that requires the flavor of lime is out of this world. You can make an exquisite chocolate body scrub by adding 2 drops of lime to 2 Tbsp rapadura sugar, 1 Tbsp of coconut oil and 1 tsp of cacao powder. This is serious body love at its best!
Lime is also a wonderful astringent, it is tonifying, antiseptic and antimicrobial making it an ideal additive in skincare. If you add 2 drops of lime and 2 drops of lavender into a bowl of warm water, you can use a face washer to compress onto skin conditions such as congested oily skin, acne, eczema and dermatitis.
One of the most common ways to extract this oil is by cold pressing the rind of the fruit. This retains many of the natural elements that make it so appealing. However, it is cold pressed lime oil that is known to be phototoxic and should be avoided in the sun within 6-12hours of application. Steam distilled lime is not considered to be phototoxic.
Lime is an effective immune booster and when used in a diffuser or vaporizer with oils like rosemary, lemon and eucalyptus it can help clear sinuses and head colds. If you add 2 drops of lime, 1 drop lavender and 1 drop tea tree into a bowl of hot water you can use it as a powerful steam inhalation to appease headaches and cold and flu symptoms.
When blended into a carrier oil like sweet almond or jojoba, lime, lemon and neroli make a wonderful combination for helping to reduce cellulite and varicose veins. And blended with oils like grapefruit, fennel and oregano can support a sluggish digestive system.
Due to its uplifting qualities it is an appealing stress reliever and when used in a vaporizer can appease a negative mindset, anxiety and exhaustion. Inhaling a drop on a tissue can help appease a sense of apathy and lack of energy. And here’s the best part... if you have a broken or heavy heart, feel like you have lost your way or just need a good hug then consider lime oil your dream mum in a bottle!
In the beautiful Aroma Cards there is even more information about this amazing oil but if the plant could talk to you here is her message:
‘I have boundless inner peace and joy as worry and stress just melt away.’
Aroma Cards are available at: https://twenty8.com/product/aroma-cards/

SLP 120: Self Love Quicky – Immortelle Essential Oil
Self Love Podcast
10/20/21 • 7 min
Profile Of An Essential Oil – Immortelle – Helichrysum augustifolium
Immortelle is steam distilled from the yellow flowers of a small aromatic shrub that grows on cliff tops in the Mediterranean, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is an exquisite oil also known as Everlasting and Helichrysum.
The name helichrysum comes from the Greek word helios (sun) and chrysos (gold). This is because of the way this beautiful plant flowers, which can look a lot like masses of little golden suns. The yield is quite low. It takes a tonne of these flowering tops to produce up to 1.5kg of essential oil, which is why it is costs around $300 for just 10mls and why adulteration is common.
Immortelle is relieving, soothing, clearing and balancing and thanks to its unique chemical composition and some unusual sesquiterpenes not found in other essential oils it has amazing wound healing abilities.
Used in a massage blend Immortelle can help relieve oedemas, bruises and reduce scars and stretch marks. This also makes it an ideal addition in skincare for it has remarkable anti-aging abilities, and is particularly helpful for more mature skin and dry skin. Added to Rosehip oil it is remarkable in helping to reduce post operative scarring and cosmetic surgery healing. And as the name suggests Immortelle is said to be for the young at heart and eternal youthful appearance regardless of age.
In herbal medicine it has been used to help calm chest conditions like coughs, colds, bronchitis and asthma. It is also a beautiful essential oil and alongside oils like Eucalyptus, Pine and Lavender it is a perfect choice for a hot water steam inhalation. There is nothing quite like the good old fashioned breathing over a bowl with a towel over the head to relieve such conditions. A steam inhalation using Immortelle also helps to sweat the skin and support rehydration.
This pale-gold coloured oil is known to contain ketones that are renowned for their anti-inflammatory abilities. This helps with muscle aches and pains and combined with German Chamomile and Lavender it can help relieve muscle inflammation and injuries.
Immortelle has highly anti-microbial properties which is what helps it to heal wounds. Three drops added to teaspoon of Manuka honey would help with reducing the pain from burns, bites and stings. It also acts as a stimulant for the liver and is a good oil to use when on a detox.
For emotional support this oil when diffused or used in a massage can help reduce stress, grief, heartache, insecurities, negativity and worry. It is also one of the best oils for more connectedness, forgiveness, positivity, strength, warmth and wisdom.
From a research in aromatherapy point of view Immortelle is fairly new and really only came to the fore in the early 1990’s. But with its remarkable attributes as one of the best oils for inflammation, treating acute and chronic conditions and for its skin healing and regenerating properties it is now considered one of the most precious and highly regarded oils on the market today.
You can get a bottle of this precious substance right here – https://twenty8.com/product/immortelle-pure-essential-oil/

‘It is a value question. And we do find money for the things we value. There’s no question about it. And you know as many, many years as a single mum with four kids we always at organic food. And I hear people say ‘but how did you afford that?’ Questioning that. And I said ‘well we bought all our clothes second hand in op shops and I drive an old car. The thing that I valued was the priority and I think that for the mothers that are listening they will know that if your child needs something, you find the money.’
Has hearing someone else’s story ever impacted you to such an extent that it changed your life? Edwina Murphy-Droomer had such a moment in 2018 when she travelled to the USA to attend a conference put on by her coach where she got to hear the stories of six women with phenomenal success in their business. A seed was planted and a year later her vision came true when she was invited to be on stage as one of the success stories. You will not want to miss this podcast.
Edwina originally trained in health and wellness and wanted to share her knowledge as a practitioner and health coach. It was a naturopath who helped to change the course of Edwina’s life when she was young. This pivotal moment set her on the path to become a Naturopath and she also completed Cyndi O’Meara’s Nutrition Academy program. She knew she wanted to empower women to take care of their own health and make their wellbeing a priority.
As you will hear in this interview Edwina also noticed she had always relied on other people’s opinions and insights to make big decisions. It was realising the call to be an entrepreneur herself, to do the thing she wanted most, that became a decision that took her to that conference in the USA and has been part of her success formula ever since.
Edwina has a deep understanding of what it means to truly BLOSSOM. Like many women, Edwina’s metamorphosis sprung from her darkest hour as suddenly single, broke mother with four children, to leading a full-colour life of love, prosperity and freedom.
Edwina is a powerhouse in the fields of vision building and transformation. She has supported thousands of women to create an exciting vision for the life they want to live and then provides the support and accountability to bring that vision to life.
Her own vision was huge. And to be an entrepreneur it is almost like you ‘can’t NOT’ chase your dream and do it! Being so driven and wanting to teach about nutrition and food, using the power of transformation was the starting driver, and this has grown into sharing wisdom and women’s stories. It is the vision and desire to do the things she wants to do and it being so strong that pulls her forward.
She believes that finding your passion in being in service of others and knowing how you can pass that wisdom onto other people it what can become addictive. Making a difference in people’s lives literally becomes an addiction.
Edwina has always made a difference by following her heart, and she has chosen to do the things she needs to, to make those big dreams come true.
Sitting in that audience in the USA listening to the phenomenal female entrepreneurs at that conference share their very real stories was what sparked her desire to launch something quite extraordinary herself.
She believes many women have accumulated knowledge throughout their lives. And she decided to launch the Phenomenal Feminine Entrepreneurs Summit. She had to find 21 women to share their stories. She wanted to gather these women across the world and share their stories all of which have turned out so powerful, inspiring and full of wisdom.
Anyone who listens to the interviews of this Phenomenal Feminine Entrepreneurs Summit and reads the book will experience something very unique and you will get a sense you feel a part of every story. She wants to plant the seeds of possibility into the hearts and minds of all women on the planet through these interviews.
Lovely Edwina also shares what things would mean a rich and prosperous life to her and hopes to ignite you to ask the question of yourself.
Her definition of self-love is, One of my values is responsibility. And personal responsibility, I am 100% responsible for myself, my health, my happiness. Self-love is an act of responsibility to me being the best version of myself.
Her one message of advice is that you are enough right now in this very moment. You are perfect you are beautiful. If you don’t love your life, it’s time to sit down and create a vision of what you would like your life to be. Start with yourself. Note how you are feeling. Plant your feet on the grass, look up at the sky and breathe in what mother nature has provided. Put a high vibration into your body. Listening to things that lift your vibration and create a vision for the life you want to be living.
Favourite quote is by Edwina in her book:

For many, this crazy time we find ourselves in; the lock downs, isolation and separation, is the realisation that it could be our way for some time yet. Perhaps now more than ever is a time to focus on the positives that remain, a time to go within and take some time to invest into your precious self. It is also a chance for gratitude and transformation, the possible discovery for higher potential. It can also be a chance to take a moment to be grateful for all that you have and all that you are.
A fresh perspective also gives an opportunity to create new dreams. It could be a physical transformation like a room makeover. Or it could be a planned dream holiday – maybe in five years time! It could be a weight-loss or body transformation. Or it could be a goal to start a new course of study, a family or that new business you’ve been thinking about.
Whatever you wish for as the rest of this year or as the pandemic unfolds, it’s a treat to know we have a special tool up our sleeve in the form of essential oils. These beautiful gifts from nature can help to bring a beautiful sense of calm and balance, inspiration and motivation.
One thing to keep in mind no matter what, is not everything is cancelled.
Sunshine is not cancelled
Spring is not cancelled
Love is not cancelled
Relationships are not cancelled
Reading is not cancelled
Naps are not cancelled
Devotion is not cancelled
Music is not cancelled
Dancing is not cancelled
Imagination is not cancelled
Kindness is not cancelled
Conversation are not cancelled
Hope is not cancelled.
I feel honoured to share two very special blends that I created around the power of gratitude and transformation. These blends have been designed for your diffuser. When it comes to choosing your own essential oils to express your gratitude and create change you could look at the following oil combinations as a guide and then feel free to experiment and create the blend that is right for you.

SLP 100: Self Love Quicky – Celebrate The Law Of Precession
Self Love Podcast
08/11/21 • 20 min
Today we celebrate 100 shows on the Self Love Podcast and I cannot thank you enough for being a part of the ride. After almost 7 years of podcasting and almost 400 shows with the beautiful Carren Smith and Cyndi O’Meara on the Up For A Chat show it brings me huge pleasure to share this milestone with you.
I know self-love may seem the strangest of topics or discussions to want to follow. But it is my experience and in writing The Art Of Self Love book that without a healthy amount of self-regard, self-care and mostly self-love, then we are missing out on the greatest reservoir of inner resources available to human kind.
I love this quote by Rajneesh.
Celebration is without any cause. Celebration is simply because we are. We are made out of the stuff called celebration. That’s our natural state – to celebrate – as natural as it is for the trees to bloom, for birds to sing, for rivers to flow to the ocean. Celebration is a natural state.
Today I celebrate the show and I celebrate you. We may only get around 5,000 downloads but it is each one of you that makes this show special. My greatest wish is that it speaks to those of you who listen and it is relative enough for you to want to share it with those you thin could benefit too.
One of my greatest passions is interviewing people, sharing their incredible stories and understanding what they have within them, what they do to get up, over, out and through the challenges in life and how they continue to show up for themselves and others. To me this is the real juice of life, the real magic. And thanks to Twenty8 Essentials and The Wellness Couch I get to share this with YOU!
One of the greatest ways to understand the impact of a little show like this is to understand the Law of Precession.
The law states that the Sun and the Earth are both bodies in motion. Despite the 180 degree gravitational pull of the in-motion Sun upon the in-motion Earth, precession makes Earth orbit around the Sun in a direction that is at ninety degrees- i.e., at a right angle-to the direction of the Sun’s gravitational pull.
Similarly, if we drop a stone into water, we get the ripples going out at ninety degree’s to the direction of the dropped stone.
This is better described by Dr Buckminster Fuller and one of his favourite stories regarding precession was the story of the honey-bee. Seemingly inadvertently, the honey-bee goes about his business of gathering honey. Precessionally, at ninety degree’s to his body and his flight path, his legs gather pollen from one flower and “accidentally “ take this pollen to the next flower, resulting in cross pollination. The outcome of this seemingly inadvertent accidental activity is that the bee contributes enormously to life on earth. Of the 100 crop species that provide 90 per cent of the world’s food, over 70 are pollinated by bees.
Back to the Law of Precession, it simply states that for every action we take, there will be a side effect. We don’t know what the side effect will be, just like the honeybee doesn’t know the side effect of making honey, but there’s always a side effect. Every cause has an effect.
Bucky’s favorite example of defining precession is that of the honeybee above. You know what the honeybee is, but you may not know that honeybees are vital to many ecosystems on earth. If they ever become extinct, humankind would soon follow.
The purpose of the honeybee is cross-pollination and the sustenance of life on earth. The honeybee doesn’t know that, but the universal purpose of the honeybee is cross-pollination. All the honeybee knows is they are making honey, but as a result, they make more flowers at the same time.
Do you think they know their true purpose and do you think that they are driven to save the world by making honey? I don’t think so. They are only drawn towards making the honey and going back to the hive, but as they move from flower to flower, their body and their legs accidentally gather pollen, which then results in cross-pollination and fertilization of more flowers.
So the question I ask in this week’s podcast is what is your true purpose?
I ask myself what is the purpose of the Self Love Podcast? And to be honest my purpose is to share remarkable stories, people, oils, tips and ideas around taking care of the most important asset you have and that is your health and a purposeful life for YOU!
I hope you’re enjoying the ride as much as I am. High fives to us!

SLP 96: Self Love Quicky – Apology & Forgiveness Rituals
Self Love Podcast
07/29/21 • 10 min
In every meaningful relationship whether it is with family, children, friends, lovers, co-workers, or neighbours, there will be great times but also the times when things are not so great. Precious relationships are worth holding on to and they require work on all levels. Everyone at some point will find themselves saying sorry or needing to find ways to forgive and move on. That is of course, only if you really want the ‘meaningful’ side of relationships.
Why is it then so many struggle with apologising and forgiving? Perhaps it is ego. In any conflict situation you can be sorry for the outcome or the pain it has caused. Saying sorry from this angle can be incredibly relieving for all parties concerned. Not saying sorry is not about winning. Often the winner is the one who can say sorry. We have a ‘sorry ritual’ in our house. If someone does something wrong or hurtful to someone else part of the consequence is what we call a ‘full apology’. It goes something like this:
‘I, Kim Morrison, apologise to you, Daniel Kyle Morrison, for putting you down thinking you should know where the keys to the car were! I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings even though we found them in your jacket pocket! No matter what I am sorry and I love you.’ Ha!! In all seriousness the point is they have to say their full name and the person’s full name, they must say what they are sorry for and what it created, and they must always finish by saying ‘and I love you’. It certainly gets the kids thinking twice knowing they have to do the full apology! Hopefully it is also teaching them that it is a wonderful skill to have the courage to apologise. And don’t think this is just for the kids. Our whole family has to live by the full apology ritual! And our two beautiful children remind us often!
Saying sorry to yourself is another important component of self-care and perhaps the same ritual should be taken on when you knock or hurt yourself. So often we say mean things to the reflection in the mirror, or constantly berate ourselves for not being good enough. Saying sorry as if you are apologizing to someone else but actually putting your full name in there would be a wonderful ritual as well.
‘Never does the human soul appear so strong as when it foregoes revenge, and dares forgive an injury.’ E H Chapin
Forgiveness is the other vital ingredient to any good relationship. Learning to forgive and asking forgiveness is what allows love to truly flow into your relationships and part of that is also learning to forgive ourselves. Holding onto guilt, anger or resentment does not serve us in any way. In fact it just blocks us from receiving love. Understanding that we are all human and we do all make mistakes, allows us to realise that we are all learning, and when you learn you naturally make mistakes along the way.
‘Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.’ Paul Boese
When you forgive you let go of the anger and hate and you see it for what it really is — someone (or you!) just mucked up, whether intentional or not! And that muck up, big or small has created a problem that can now only be resolved by forgiveness. By remembering the misdeeds of others or ourselves we live in a critical and judgemental mindset. Through forgiveness comes freedom for all, and that lifts a heavy weight off your own shoulders.
‘Forgiveness is the scent the violet emits onto the heel that crushed it.’ Anon
I love this quote. It is stunning and so true. There are times in life where hurts are done that will change relationship forever. Just because you forgive doesn’t mean you will have a close relationship with that person anymore, and you may never be able to forget the hurt that was felt at that time. Yet you can let go of the resentment and anger towards that person, and let it turn to pity as you see their hurtful ways as a reflection of just how lost they are. In the amazing book called The Shack , by William.P.Young, he says “Forgiveness is not forgetting but being able to take your hands off the throat of that person”. So true.
Forgiveness frees you. It allows joy back into your life. Letting go of resentment affects every area of your life, especially your health. Life is too short to live with hurts and anger — let it go and set yourself free.
‘To forgive is to set a prisoner free, and discover that the prisoner was you.’ Lewis.B.Smedes
It is easy to create happy and celebratory rituals but creating apology and forgiveness rituals are just as important, maybe even more so, especially when it comes to our own health and mental well being. Give it a try!

Self Love Podcast

‘I followed the guidelines, but I bucked the system a little bit, and then when I made the decision to have my spleen removed, I was at peace with it. And again, if I knew then what I know now, then that would have been a different choice, but we can’t change the past, and it is what it is. And now, every decision I make I’m honouring my body and I’m giving my body... you mentioned this is your Self Love podcast... I love looking after my body, I love giving my body love. I love giving my body everything that it needs to be the best that it can be. And what I implore people to do is not wait to have a health crisis to realise that our body is deserving of that., we are worthy of that.’ ~ Therese Kerr

Her definition of Self Love is about knowing you are worthy, knowing that you are so deserving of what you give to other people. We are so giving and nurturing and we are as deserving as anyone else on this planet. It is also about honouring and receiving that love for yourself.
Her favourite quote is from herself:
If you don’t love yourself enough, who will?

Most of us think we are healthy until something happens.
We don’t know what we don’t know until we know it.
It is important to listen to the cues our bodies give us.
We can’t live in regret either, we have to choose powerfully based on the decisions that we’ve made.
I love looking after my body, I love giving my body love.
How great is that and how does it get any better?

They are taught to treat the symptoms, not the cause.
I marvel at doctors who are willing to look at both sides.
