No, we did not take the first show and re-upload it. What we have today is a remake of the original short story that was produced and aired on Sci-Fi Channel in 2009. Is it a vast improvement over the 1984 version? Will anyone have something remotely positive to say? Tune in to find out.

Percolated Media - The Exorcist (1973)

It’s been called by many the scariest movie of all time. It is yet another series that Garrett has been wanting to cover for years. It has a new movie coming out this Halloween season. What other reasons do we need to finally cover The Exorcist? Even though Night of the Living Dead was out just five years prior, never had a horror movie earned as much support from both audiences and critics alike until The Exorcist was released in 1973. Major box office, a slew of Oscar nominations, and a reputation to scare (and supposedly make filmgoers sick) that just grew with time has just made the film that much more popular with both film and horror audiences alike. Join Matt and Garrett as they welcome back Mik Duffy and they start their look at The Exorcist franchise with a full review of the 1973 original. and be sure to come back as they will keep going until they review the brand new David Gordon Green film now in theaters!

Can you say three in a row? The Jets went into Lambeau Field and laid the proverbial smackdown on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Gang Green walked away with the final score being 27-10 and a current record of 4-2. Up to this point, we haven’t seen “Same Old Jets” in quite some [...]

Percolated Media - Superman II (1980)

Superman II (1980)

Percolated Media

play

03/24/23 • 103 min

Though filmed at the same time, it is safe to say 1980’s Superman II is of a different ilk than Richard Donner’s Superman The Movie. Reason being the director was fired midway through, and what we got as a result was a very successful, if different feeling, film than Donner’s 1978 seminal favorite. The boys get back together to talk about the theatrical cut of Superman II, as (partially) directed by Salkinds hire Richard Lester. But as the podcast goes on, Garrett and Matt really dug into the weeds of differences between the original cut and 2006’s Richard Donner Cut. Which one is better? And how is the movie overall? Thank you all for the support as we get into a series Garrett has been wanting to cover for years. And be sure to come back next week as Garrett FINALLY gets to talk about Superman III long form. Much to one of his partner’s chagrin.

Percolated Media - Pirates Of The Caribbean On Stranger Tides (2011)
play

03/03/23 • 81 min

When the original Pirates of the Caribbean was released in 2003, career upticks were abound for all involved. The third sequel was supposed to mark the end of the franchise, so all the stars went their separate ways to do other projects. Orlando Bloom was everything from a romantic lead (Elizabethtown) to a sandal wearing swordsman (Kingdom of Heaven). Keira Knightly was a bounty hunter (Domino) and a fixture in period pieces (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice). So, when rumblings of another sequel in the Disney attraction based franchise started to get louder, the two stars had every reason to say thanks, but no thanks. However, third star Johnny Depp had a bomb called The Tourist in the rear view, and needed a hit. So, why not write a new entry starring its Oscar winning background character? That’s exactly what they did, and the result, is Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides. Join Matt, Adam, and Garrett as they continue on the ride that is the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with this review of the fourth entry in the franchise. After being disappointed in their revisit of At Worlds End, can On Stranger Tides avoid the rough current of their words? Listen in to find out!

Percolated Media - Percolated Media Holiday Interview Special
play

12/29/22 • 62 min

Hello Percolated Media listeners! To help bring in the new year very soon, Garrett flies solo on a podcast and interviews author, podcaster, and (newly anointed) friend Lani Diane Rich. Listen in as Lani talks about everything from what got her into writing, how she was able to write a set of novels as a single mother, and the sacrifices needed to be made in order to finish what you start. She also talks about her new writing workshop and how it can help you achieve your writing goals. We then divulge into some points about one of Garrett’s favorite shows Buffy The Vampire Slayer, which are points Rich made on her Still Pretty Podcast over at Chipperish Media. Things like how Buffy does (or doesn’t) deal with trauma in her life and how we should look at the alleged antics of one-time nerd icon now shamed cancelled Buffy creator Joss Whedon. If you’re into the retrospective format we do here at Percolated Media then I definitely recommend you check out Lani’s podcasts over at her site Chipperish Media, as she covers everything from Buffy to Angel to Matt’s favorite show The West Wing, amongst many others. And if you’re interested in her writing workshop, check out www.writingmagically.com. And who knows? She may show up on a future retrospective or two. Be sure to come back this week as not only will we have our review of Avatar: The Way of Water, but also our year end special where we not only give our favorite films of the year, but also answer your questions and talk about future retrospectives, and more!

After lingering in Scorsese/DiCaprio land for five weeks, Matt and Garrett welcome Adam back to the third seat. But ‘welcome’ might not be as fitting a word as ‘force’. To celebrate the occasion, the boys return to Stephen King land. But what they’re reviewing is still in question, even after the recording has commenced. After Carrie, Salem’s Lot (which we’re getting to), and The Shining, King needed a little more time to finish his magnum opus, The Stand. But his contract had him needing to put out one book a year. To satisfy his publisher, King put together his very first book of short stories, Night Shift. Listen in as the boys explain the King created concept of the ‘dollar baby’, review future successful director Frank Darabont’s debut King adaptation The Woman in the Room, and Matt and Adam yell at Garrett for having them watch these three film shorts.

When Christopher Reeve hung up the cape after The Quest for Peace, few would have ever thought about someone else making a movie in that continuity. There were plenty of projects that were attempted to revive Superman back on the big screen. Whether it was Kevin Smith, Tim Burton or JJ Abrams, there just didn't seem to be a clear vision WB felt confident in greenlighting. Finally, X-men director Bryan Singer landed the gig of bringing Superman back to the big screen as a continuation of the first two Donner films. The movie opened in 2006 and was met with a lukewarm to positive reception. It didn't do gangbusters though and it was considered a financial failure on the part of the suits. Was Brandon Routh or any of the cast to blame? What exactly contributed to the movie not matching what the studio imagined it would make? Do the boys have anything nice to say, especially one of the three on this podcast who's harbored a grudge against it for years? Join us as we continue through Krypton and come back next week for a review of Man of Steel.
