We implore everyone to go see Rumours this weekend as it releases on Oct. 11th. It is Matthew's top film of the year at the moment. We were more than lucky to have the writing and directing team of Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson join us to talk about this brilliant satirical satire as well as their 2017 experimental venture into loosely recreating Hitchcock's Vertigo with, The Green Fog.
Episode 118- Alex Wolff on The Line and Pig
Overdue Rentals
10/17/24 • 70 min
Alex Wolff (Nat too) have done amazing work breaking the young Nickelodeon star visage by headlining a slew of great pieces of true art. Alex's new film, The Line, continues that streak. We spoke him about the frat drama as well as his 2021 performance in the much loved, but still underseen, Pig.
Episode 114- Alex Saks on It Ends With Us and Thoroughbreds
Overdue Rentals
08/16/24 • 65 min
It Ends With Us is taking the box office by storm. We were lucky enough to have the film's producer, Alex Saks join us to talk about the process of getting such a film off the ground. We also took time to talk about one of her first gigs as a producer on the criminally underseen, Thoroughbreds.

Legendary film maker Lee Tamahori's new film The Convert is already out and in theaters and OnDemand for all to enjoy. We couldn't pass up the chance to talk to Lee about the film and his groundbreaking feature, Once Were Warriors. This might be a more overall serious episode of Overdue Rentals, but it is a highly important and thoughtful one.

We're finally wrapping up our interviews for the long awaited Longlegs with writer/director, Osgood Perkins. Oz is here to not only talk about his smash hit, Longlegs, but also his first production (which was his second released film), The Blackcoat's Daughter. Strap in for darkness and grief with some light moments in between!
Episode 119- Timmy Williams of TWKUK on Knightriders
Overdue Rentals
10/24/24 • 110 min
Heads up! This episode starts and ends with our discussion with Timmy Williams, so don't worry, you didn't miss anything when you didn't hear our normal intro and outro. Having Timmy on as a guest has been germinating for months, as we originally planned to have him join us back in June. But, we finally got things in order and had a wonderful conversation about everything from The Whitest Kids U Know, Music, Life, and of course George Romero's 1981 love letter; Knightriders.

This week, we're talking about the late 1900s classic from writer/director Tom Tykwer, Run Lola Run. Our good friend, Alec Kubas-Meyer of The Week I Review is with us to discuss this stylistic German film that took the world by storm upon its release. Enjoy the discussion and let us know about your Run Lola Run memories.

Overdue Rentals is thrilled to have Kevin Lewis drop in this week to discuss both his recent Nic Cage starring film, Willy's Wonderland, as well as the classic 1998 noir masterpiece, Dark City. Animatronics, mysterious strangers, Quentin Tarantino...everything is up for grabs to talk about this go around. Listen in for some good old fashioned entertainment.
P.S.- We all had some audio issues in this one, but we cleaned most of it up.

This week, we are joined by Jon Amiel; the director of Matthew's favorite film of all time...The Singing Detective (1986). This utter masterpiece penned by the brilliant Dennis Potter, only aired in the US, once! Jon took some time to discuss with us his relationship to the project and Dennis Potter, all the ins-and-outs of creating such a sprawling work of art, and all those special little details that went into the casting and production of a film that too many people still need to see.
Note: When you ultimately go to look up information on this film, make sure you are not looking at the 2003 re-make starring Robert Downey Jr. Make sure you are looking at the film from 1986, starring Michael Gambon.

You may not see George Huang's name officially credited for as many projects he has his hands in. And while his new film, Weekend in Taipei is a slice of East Asian action pleasure, George's first film was a slice of life about the trials and tribulations of working in Hollywood. Swimming With Sharks is a sharp witted, comically dark tale from the early 90s that spoke volumes about the industry then, but probably echoes heavier today. It was a pleasure talking to George about these two films as well as all the little extra morsels he sent our way.
