American Students Visit Taiwan

In today's news, nine American high school students visited Taiwan! What did these students learn in one week? 有九個美國高中生來到台灣!他們在這一個禮拜中學到了什麼呢? One: Taiwan's cities like nature! A student saw a big tree at her hotel window. It was growing freely. 第一,台灣的城市喜歡大自然。學生從飯店窗戶看到外面自由生長的大樹。 She said this kind of tree is cut down in their city. She says Taiwan lets nature be. Their city has trees and trees and grass. But they're in parks, gardens, and along streets. 她說在他們的城市,樹都砍掉了,只有公園、花園,跟道路兩邊才有樹木。 Two: Taiwanese people do big things in small spaces! The students learned motorcycle repair shops and many other businesses don't need big spaces. 第二,台灣人在小小的空間裡做很多事!這些學生看到摩托車修理廠,還有很多小小的店家。 The students' city has a lot of space. So people use lots of space! 這些學生的家鄉有很大的空間,所以人們就使用很多空間。 Three: Taiwanese people are kind! They shared their homes and their daily lives. They talked with the students in Chinese. Everyone helped them. 第三,台灣人很友善!他們招待學生住進自己家,跟他們一起生活,還跟學生講中文。大家都會幫他們忙。 The students said Taiwan was very interesting. They learned about nature, spaces, and Taiwanese people. Scientists Drill Into the Earth for Answers

Do you know where volcano lava comes from? 你知道火山的岩漿從哪裡來嗎? It comes from the earth's mantle. The mantle is the earth's middle layer. It has lots of very hot rock. 岩漿在地函裡面。地函在地殼底下,是地球的中間層,裡面有很多滾燙的岩石。 What's in this mantle rock? What can we learn from it? Scientists say we can learn more about volcanoes and earthquakes. We can learn more about how life started on earth and many other things too! 這些岩石裡面有甚麼呢?我們又可以從這些岩石學到甚麼?科學家說,我們可以更了解火山跟地震,還有生命的起源! But mantle rock is deep in the earth. It is not easy to get. Scientists first tried 62 years ago! 但是地函很深,這些石頭不容易取得,科學家 62 年前就試過了! Mantle rock is closest to the ocean floor. So scientists are working on a ship. They have a big drill. 離地函岩石層最近的地方是海床,於是科學家在船上工作,他們有一台巨大鑽頭! The drill is making a very deep hole. The drill takes the rock from the hole. Now scientists have one kilometer of mantle rock! 這個鑽頭鑽了一個很深很深的洞,把裡面的石頭取出來,現在科學家有超過一公里這麼多的地函岩石層! This is great news for scientists everywhere. It's the deepest mantle rock we have! And every day, the drill goes deeper and gets more mantle rock! 這是目前能夠拿到的,地球最深處的岩石!而且這個鑽頭每一天都在繼續往下鑽! We can learn more about the earth and life from this mantle rock. The earth's mantle has a lot to teach us!
