Britain's most iconic national heroes (incl. Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Francis Drake & Lord Nelson) have been denounced by #BLM protestors, with calls for their memorials to be demolished or banished. In response -- and without any public consultation -- institutions, councils and companies have made highly controversial & polarising decisions regarding some of the most visible elements of British culture, history & identity, from the removal of historic statues to the renaming of public spaces and even the banning of some of the nation's favourite comedy shows/episodes. Is Britain now engaged in a full-blown culture war and what is the end result likely to be? Are today's youth being failed by schools & universities or are they receiving a balanced education about British history, the British Empire and slavery past & present? Joining Peter Whittle for this week's episode of #NCFCounterCulture are: * Claire Fox, Director & Founder of the Academy of Ideas and former Brexit Party MEP * Emma Webb, Director of the Forum on Integration, Democracy and Extremism (FIDE) at the Civitas think tank * Rafe Heydel-Mankoo of the NCF, Historian & Broadcaster (specialising in British symbols of identity, etc) --------------- SUPPORT/DONATE: The New Culture Forum Channel is still very new and to continue to produce quality programming we need your support. New Culture Forum - 2.20 Darren Grimes: I fought the liberal elite and won
play

03/15/20 • 34 min

Peter's guest this week is Darren Grimes, the political activist and commentator who took on the might of the establishment and won. Darren was wrongly fined by the Electoral Commission and faced financial ruin at the age of 23 when he decided to fight back and took his case all the way to the High Court. He shares with us his journey so far, his thoughts on current affairs and what the future might hold in newly-blue 'red wall' seats the Tories picked up at the last election.

* Simon Evans (BBC Live At The Apollo; Michael McIntyre's Road Show; Rado 4 News Quiz, etc.) * Konstantin Kisin (Jewish Comedian of the Year; Triggernometry, free speech media pundit, etc.) * Dominic Frisby (co-Host's "Money Pit" on Dave; "17 Million F*&K Offs" Brexit hit song; Brexit Party PPC, etc.) * Rafe Heydel-Mankoo (Historian & Broadcaster with huge knowledge of 20th C. British Comedy) On this week's #NCFCounterCulture with Marc Sidwell, our expert panel, including three seasoned veterans of the stand-up circuit -- some of whom are often "accused" of being right wing -- believe great comedy is out there...just not necessarily on the BBC. BBC comedy is regularly criticised for its dominance by comedians sharing a left-wing / liberal / woke viewpoint. Critics claim this imbalance excludes comedians and comedic subjects that do not fit with this world view -- and thus falls flat for a large % of the British public. Are they correct? If so, is this an issue for the BBC alone? Or is it evidence that comedy as a whole is struggling in the era of "Woke", where comedians must constantly self censor for fear of causing offence or having promising careers curtailed by a Twitter storm? Our panel believes that comedy is in fact thriving & maybe in a new Golden Age -- if only the British public were better exposed to it or knew where to look. Thankfully, the rise of Netflix, YouTube and other new online platforms means that viewers no longer need to have their comedy "approved" by the state broadcaster's commissioning editors. The market now decides who is funny -- and many of the comedians faring best have had little to no exposure on the mainstream media. In this full-legnth interview, Thatcher's Official Biographer reveals for the first time some remarkable facts from his new biography, including: * Sir John Major's role in Thatcher's overthrow, * Thatcher's early commitment to climate change * Thatcher's desire whilst in office for the British public to decide on Britain's place in EC through both a general election and a referendum * secret channels opened up between the British government and South Africa's ANC * remarkable exchanges between Nelson Mandela and the British Prime Minister The Three decades after Thatcher left office, why does Britain's most successful Prime Minister remain such a divisive figure? What will history deem her greatest achievement, failure and legacy? Ultimately, was she a radical or a traditionalist? This week's guest on "So What You're Saying Is..." is Charles Moore, Official Biographer of Margaret Thatcher and former editor of The Daily Telegraph, The Spectator and The Sunday Telegraph. Charles joins Peter Whittle to discuss the third and final volume of his bestselling and definitive biography of Britain's first female Prime Minister, 'One of the great biographical achievements of our times' (Sunday Times) This volume tells the story of her last period in office, her combative retirement and the controversy that surrounded her even in death. It includes the Fall of the Berlin Wall which she had fought for and the rise of the modern EU which she feared. It lays bare her growing quarrels with colleagues and reveals the truth about her political assassination by her own MPs. Moore's biography of Britain's most important peacetime prime minister paints an intimate political and personal portrait of the victories and defeats, the iron will but surprising vulnerability of the woman who dominated in an age of male power. Charles Moore notes that "Whenever I go on the BBC they always start: 'Margaret Thatcher was the most divisive P.M....' rather than stating 'Margaret Thatcher was the most successful P.M...." "Whatever one thinks of her as a leader, it is factually true that she was politically successful: * The longest-serving prime minister won every election.. * She won them all with big majorities * She brought in most of the measures she wanted to. * She has a set of doctrines are named after her. * She was the first female prime minister. * She was a hugely prestigious global figure by the late 1980s, having been the senior world leader by as early as 1982. * She helped end the Cold War and was celebrated as an heroic figure in central and Eastern Europe. She also correctly forecast that the European Community's plan to tie post-reunification Germany down and stop it being a threat by placing it at the heart of an increasingly centralised European Union, tied to other European states also through a common currency, would backfire & lead to Germany dominating the continent.

In this first episode of Season Two, Peter Whittle's guest is Peter Hitchens, the celebrated conservative columnist, writer and polemicist -- and one of our most commonly requested people: Subjects discussed include free expression, identity politics, immigration, education & social mobility, conservatism etc.. Sometimes styled "Britain's Obituarist", Hitchens best-known work is "The Abolition of Britain". As with Sir Roger Scruton, Hitchen is a social conservative who feels far closer to social democracy than the unfettered market . In this indepth discussion, Peter Hitchens explains how Britain has undergone a silent and radical revolution as transformative as history's most famous, where the buildings remain but little else is the same. Whilst many assume the roots of this revolution were planted in the 1960s, Mr. Hitchens traces the foundations back to the Bloomsbury Group & the First World War. Recalling his own time as a far left student in the 1960s, he reveals how, when they were at university, many of Britain's leading political and establishment figures of the last 30 years -- such as former PM Tony Blair -- identified openly as revolutionary Marxists or Trotskyists. --------------------

New Culture Forum - 28. Konstantin Kisin - The Last Laugh
play

07/20/19 • 28 min

This week, Peter is joined by the comedian and social commentator, Konstantin Kisin. Konstantin made headlines last year after refusing to sign a "behavioural agreement" before a gig at a London university. He discusses with Peter how his families experiences in the Soviet Union helped shape his views on freedom and why he is fighting back against an increasingly politically correct elite. The New Culture Forum's publication "The Long March Through The Institutions: How the Left Won the Culture War & What To Do About It" may be downloaded free of charge from our website: http://newcultureforum.org.uk (Direct link: http://www.newcultureforum.org.uk/ass...). Hard copies may be purchased by making a £10 donation also via the website (further details please email: [email protected]) How does culture shape political power? Many Conservatives now fear that victory at the ballot box is not enough. Despite Boris Johnson’s triumph in the 2019 election, they sense that a larger cultural battle has been lost. Some accuse the left of mounting a secret, slow-motion takeover, inspired by the ideas of the Italian communist Antonio Gramsci – the ‘long march through the institutions’. The New Culture Forum's new book by Marc Sidwell uncovers the truth: a tangled history in which active subversion runs alongside unintended consequences and missed opportunities. Armed with a clearer understanding of the left’s long march, it also reveals new possibilities for fighting back. In this video, author Marc Sidwell reads from the above publication. --------------- SUBSCRIBE: If you are enjoying the show, please subscribe to our channel on YouTube (click the Subscribe Button underneath the video and then Click on the Bell icon next to it to make sure you Receive All Notifications) AUDIO: If you prefer Audio you can subscribe on itunes or Soundcloud. Andrew Doyle, creator of "Titania McGrath" (a parody of a militant social justice warrior) and co-creator of "Jonathan Pie", returns to the "So What You're Saying Is..." (#SWYSI) sofa to discuss "Titania's" hilarious new book: "My First Little Book of Intersectional Activism" Doyle wrote the book as a parody of the many heavily-politicised woke childrens' books that are currently being published in an attempt to indoctrinate our children. To quote: "Aimed at activists from the age of six months to six years, Titania's book will help cultivate a new progressive generation. In a series of groundbreaking and poignant chapters, she will take you on a journey with some of the most inspiring individuals in history, such as Emmeline Pankhurst, Meghan Markle, Nelson Mandela, Hillary Clinton and Joseph Stalin." Whilst his book is humorous, Doyle wrote it to help expose a serious issue that extends far beyond childrens' books: namely, the flagrant indoctrination of children in the education system, where children are taught pseudo-history and controversial theories about gender, white privilege etc. Some are even told to ignore their parents' views where those views contradict classroom teaching. Such biased teaching, Doyle argues, is very likely illegal according to the 1996 Education Act. Yet our politicians remain silent on this issue. "Brilliant Black British History" is the name of a new children's book which claims, amongst other things, that Stonehenge was built by black people and that Britain was a black country for a lot longer than it was white. This book is the latest in a long series of print and online publications to claim that black people have been a notable presence in Britain for a lot longer than the traditionally accepted mid-20th century. On today's Deprogrammed, hosts Harrison Pitt, a senior editor at the European Conservative, and Evan Riggs, freelance writer, are joined by Tom Rowsell, historian, filmmaker and youtuber at Survive the Jive: https://youtube.com/@Survivethejive Tom recently debunked a BBC children's "Horrible Histories" music video which claimed black people had played a leading role in Britain since Roman times. You may view Tom's video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=904xN...
