This week me & Matt Macklin are joined by esteemed boxing scribe and author Kevin Mitchell to look back at the two showdowns between Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis in 1999 that eventually saw Lewis crowned undisputed King of the Heavyweight division. The 90s was a mad decade in the top division; a 42/1 upset, Fan Man, a belt in the bin, the return of George Foreman, the Bite Fight, Andrew Golota. It was chaos. Luckily for us Kev was right in the thick of it and ringside at both Madison Square Garden and the Thomas & Mack for those Holyfield vs Lewis mega fights.

In this episode we take you back to Christmas 1997 and NYC for a deep dive into Prince Naseem Hamed's sensational US debut at Madison Square Garden vs Kevin Kelley.
There was never a dull moment with Naz and nobody knows that better than Sky Sport's Adam Smith, who was on the inside of the Sheffield fighter's career through its many highs and also its controversial lows. Adam was in New York 24 years ago, spending 2 weeks out there wrapped around a fight that with hindsight was probably the highlight of Hamed's extraordinary career. Luckily for us he remembers it like it was yesterday.

This week me & Matt catch up with Daily Star boxing writer Chris McKenna.
A few weeks ago it was Chris who broke the news that AJ vs Fury wouldn't be happening because Tyson would have to first give Deontay Wilder a third fight.
It was a huge story, the biggest of Chris' career to date so we were keen to know how it came about and just what it's like working on the boxing beat for a daily newspaper in the current climate; a job where you have to combine the old school values of the printed daily edition with the more modern approach demanded by the instant digital platform.
The conversation went in all sorts of directions and we finished off with a good chat about the Matchroom/DAZN news, which had been confirmed the day we recorded this with Chris.

This week sees me and Matt welcome former IBF World Middleweight champion and good friend Darren Barker to the podcast for a long overdue Macklin's Take debut.
Matt and Darren, were the same weight and their careers ran in parallel lines really. They very nearly boxed at one point, posters were printed and it was all ready to go top of the bill on the much-vaunted Magnificent Seven card, but an injury to Darren prevented it. So we revisit the fight that never was and the two of them compare notes and stories not just from their fighting days but also from their new careers as media pundits.
