Kelly McCormack talks playing Zeph on Syfy’s Killjoys, the CBC comedy The Neddeaus of Dequesne Island, her upcoming project Sugar Daddy, our roles in the impending apocalypse and much more!

In episode 52 of Kneel Before Aud, I chat with actor, writer and producer Kelly McCormack. Kelly most recently starred as Zeph in season 3 of the Syfy hit Killjoys. I’m a fan of that show and I think you should be too, so I was really excited to chat with her about it.

Kelly’s got a lot going on! I’m not sure if she sleeps. Killjoys just ended a fabulous third season. She’s produced and starred in a fantastic fake documentary called The Neddeaus of Duquesne Island on CBC in Canada and she’ll being filming and starring in movie she wrote titled, Sugar Daddy. Kelly and I talk about all these projects, her early-in-life attempts to read Dune, her amazing nerd origin story and being a woman in film. But, most importantly, we discover and discuss that Kelly will be the perfect leader in any apocalypse. She’s got my vote.

Please head on over to iTunes or Blog Talk Radio to give Kneel Before Aud a rating and review if you are so inclined. I’d be ever so grateful for your support of this podcast.

Kneel Before Aud - Ep 45 – Actor TOD FENNELL on Kneel Before Aud
play

01/24/17 • 58 min

Tod Fennell chats about his acting career. He also talks about martial arts, getting punched by Matt Frewer and being a space wizard. Okay, not a space wizard but a space fan!

Welcome to episode 45 of Kneel Before Aud! This episode crossed a couple ‘firsts’ off the list. It’s the first episode of the new year and it’s my first phone interview! Is this a big deal? Not really unless you’re as technically inept as I am. But evidently, I plugged things into the right places, pressed the correct buttons because I was able to talk to some one in a different country. Well, Canada.

For as nervous as I was to do an interview where I can’t interact with someone in person, this episode turned out fantastic! I talked with actor Tod Fennell who is currently up in Montreal and we had a great conversation. Tod’s been a actor since he was a wee one and has consistently worked throughout his career. He’s quite the versatile actor with his foot in television and film. He’s also worked in the voice over field for animation and video games including Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s The Division for which he also did motion capture.

Tod’s also an avid martial arts practitioner and even starred in martial arts film Wushu Warrior with eternal fan favorite Matt Frewer. In fact, he shares a pretty funny story about getting punched in the face by Frewer. And finally we talk about how much we love space. Because space is awesome.

Enjoy episode 45 of Kneel Before Aud with my wonderful guest, Tod Fennell! You can listen clicking the arrow below or on iTunes and Stitcher.

Daniel Corey sits down and talks Moriarty, Red City and his new comic book, Bloodworth

In episode 43 of Kneel Before Aud, I sit down with writer and DangerKatt founder Daniel Corey for a fun hour of catch-em-ups and creativity.

The thing is, Daniel and I knew each other in the 90’s. THE 1990’s!!! We worked together at Universal Studios in Orlando. Fast forward to 2016 and both our lives are completely different. I’m over here at Geek Girl Authority and Daniel, well, Daniel has four comic titles under his belt. DangerKatt’s Prophet, Image Comics’ Moriarty and Red City and his latest, Bloodworth.

In this wonderful hour, we catch up each other on our lives and then talk the nitty gritty of writing and creating solid stories and characters. Such a fun time!

Right now, Daniel is running a Kickstarter for the second issue of Bloodworth. It’s a great science fiction tale which brings to mind Philip K. Dick and our current real life debate on privacy and policing. Plus, the art is kick ass. Check out the Bloodworth Kickstarter, here.

Also, check out Daniel Corey in all these fabulous places — Next thing you know, he’ll have an account with Mind Palace (What does she mean? Well, you’ll have to check out Bloodworth to find out!)

The Magician’s Mageina Tovah talks working on the hit Syfy show, her short film Hux in which she wrote directed and starred, and more!

In episode 54 of Kneel Before Aud, I chat with actor, filmmaker and artist Mageina Tovah. You’ve seen Mageina onscreen in many projects including Spider Man 2 and 3, American Horror Story, Joan of Arcadia, The Shield, You’re the Worst and that’s just a sampling of her impressive resume. Most recently, she can be seen as the quirky and formidable head librarian in Syfy’s hit show The Magicians.

Mageina has worked with some of the most interesting people in the industry including Harry Dean Stanton, Sam Raimi, Michael Chiklis, Amber Tamblyn and she’s even hot-tubbed with Ray Bradbury. What? Yeah, you read that right.

We talk about The Magicians in this episode but we also discuss growing up with parents in the army, religion, her journey to acting and creating which almost took a detour to science and we talk about her short film Hux.

Hux is a film in which Mageina wrote, produced, directed and starred. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the film and it’s an incredibly touching story that follows a young woman, Hux, who is on the autism spectrum, as she navigates her life and her struggles to connect with other humans all while an apocalypse is happening. I really enjoyed talking with Mageina about her process to get this story told and I think you will too. The late Harry Dean Stanton was in the film, so we get to chat about him too.

Now, after you listen to this, head on over to MageinaTovah.com to learn more about this incredibly talented woman AND to check out her art. It’s fantastic.

In episode 56 of Kneel Before Aud, I interviewed the ridiculously talented Aliza Pearl. Aliza is a actor, writer, improviser and truly a supernerd. You can find her improvising incredible genre shows at Los Angeles’ Impro Studio such as The Improvised Generation, Ripley Improv and X-Files Unclassified. She also appears on Geek and Sundry’s Shield of Tomorrow, writes for Nerdist and is currently working on a web series based on Star Trek TNG’s Guinan. Like I said, supernerd.

In episode 55 of Kneel Before Aud, I chat with the loveliest of persons, actor Tamsen McDonough. For the last three seasons of the hit Syfy show Killjoys, Tamsen has voiced Lucy, the lovable and loyal A.I of the space ship that carries Dutch, D’avin and John on their adventures throughout the Quad. Lucy has grown in such popularity that she is often referred to as the fourth Killjoy by fans.

When I reached out to Tamsen for this interview, she suggested we do the interview on ‘National I Love Lucy Day’ and that’s exactly what we did. We, of course, talk quite a bit about Killjoys and how Tamsen developed Lucy’s character. We also talk about her winding path to becoming a writer and actor. The interview was so fun and breezy that I’m sure you’ll feel like you’re sitting right next to us while listening!

Kneel Before Aud - Ep 53 – The Expanse Director ROBERT LIEBERMAN
play

09/20/17 • 38 min

In episode 53 of Kneel Before Aud, I chat with prolific television, film and commercial director Robert Lieberman. To date, He’s won 29 CLIO awards and 2 DGA awards and that doesn’t include the many other nominations and his many other awards! He directed many genre movies and series including The X-Files, Earthsea, The Dead Zone, Haven, Lost Girl and Falling Skies. Recently Robert was nominated for Best Director in a Dramatic Series by the Directors Guild of Canada for his work on the hit Syfy series The Expanse.

We talk about Lieberman’s nerdy origins in Buffalo, New York, his journey into the arts and of course, The Expanse. Some of my favorite parts of this episode are when we talk about world building, I’m such a geek for thoughtful and well executed world building so it was a joy to hear him talk about that especially in reference to Ursula K La Guin’s Earthsea and also The Expanse. As it turns out, in the latter, he’s had a enormous influence on how we, as viewers, see the world of the series. There’s also the most amazing anecdote about Jared Harris and Thomas Jane working together on the show. You will absolutely love it.

In Episode 37 of Kneel Before Aud, I sit down with filmmaker Kevin Ward. Kevin has a long history in the film and television industry. He is currently an assistant editor for the hit television series Gotham and has also worked on many genre shows such as Almost Human, The Shannara Chronicles and Extant just to name a few.

Kevin is currently crowdfunding for his feature film, Commuter. The film is a revenge thriller told through the actions of a man who is not to be trusted. He is not only dishonest with himself and those around him, but he is also dishonest with us, the viewer.

It’s a very fascinating idea and could use your help. Watch the trailer for Commuter on the IndieGoGo page, here. I urge you to check out the page and donate. You’ll feel great donating to Independent Film which has lately been trounced by huge blockbusters. Trust me. No amount is too small or too great!

SUPPORT COMMUTER’S INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN, HERE. DO IT! YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!

In addition to talking about Commuter in this episode of Kneel Before Aud. We also discuss how Kevin got into editing and filmmaking and what it’s like to work on a huge hit like Gotham!

We also take some time to talk about his obsession with consumer electronics (seriously), metal and Southern football. It’s a great episode!

Enjoy episode 37 of Kneel Before Aud with Kevin Ward and don’t forget to stop by the Commuter page and give a few bucks!
