UFO 1 – Identified
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
02/02/22 • 92 min
It’s like putting on your old comforting sweater.
“I know what a god damn Tesco express is”. These are the fateful words that mark our journey into the depths of 1970’s British television once again. If there are people more well versed, more well studied, in old British sci-fi television than we are and is under the age of 30, then let us know. Because frankly I don’t think there are. I’m also convinced that sentence is barely even grammatical and I expect Kiyan to complain about it later on. Oh well. It’s Identified, written by Gerry Anderson, Sylvia Anderson and Tony Barwick and aired on September 16, 1970.
Show-notes:
9:12: Why would you rename Doppelganger to Journey to the Far Side of the Sun? The latter is way cooler, fair, but why rename it at all?!
9:48: Sunshine and Solar Crisis are both about restarting the sun. Weird.
13:03: E-D-F! E-D-F! You’re welcome.
13:48: The 2004 Thunderbirds movie has an 18% on Rotten Tomatoes. Thunderbirds Are Go is an animated reboot of the series that aired from 2015 to 2020.
17:35: This is as good a time as any to link ufoseries.com.
21:40: According to ufoseries dot come, the most recent UFO trading cards came out in 2004.
27:07: Here’s some “data” from Cambridge on how to pronounce “UFO.”
32:17: The book was The Eyre Affair, for anyone curious.
34:38: Oh so that’s why it’s called that.
34:52: I think this is the Family Guy chicken fight I was referring to here. Not 100% sure since there’s like 10 of them. Also, Family Guy sucks.
57:00: SHADO vehicles
1:14:30: The reason I said this is that Vila is the only character in Blake’s 7 who is in every episode. For more on Blake’s 7, watch Blake’s 7. Alternatively and/or additionally, check out our Blake’s 7 podcast, Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast.
1:20:43: Is this the most specific award I’ve ever tried to give on the podcast?
1:26:00: CNN has an interesting little article on the bent nose of the Concorde.
1:27:30: Anorak Zone’s UFO episode ranking.
1:2800: I’m actually gonna link directly to the timeline page on shadolibrary.org.
1:30:43: I zoned out, I forgot to figure it out.

UFO 6 – E.S.P.
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
03/09/22 • 68 min
I used to have ESP, then I took an arrow to the brain.
Can’t believe I just unironically referenced Skyrim in the episode description. When was the last time that was even relevant? Would you consider magical mind reading as ESP? That feels like a whole new can of worms that I’ll leave closed for now. You’re welcome. It’s ESP, written by Alan Fennel and aired on October 21, 1970.
Show-notes:
4:02: For a more incompetently cobbled together podcast overall, check out Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast, our Doctor Who podcast.
5:55: If you’re a fan of Blake’s 7, I highly recommend checking out Making Blake’s 7 on twitter. He documents tons of behind-the-scenes stuff that no one’s ever seen before.
14:34: His name is actually Michael Billington, and he really was in contention for the role of Bond.
33:39: Well, here’s information about the Unabomber for this unaware, I guess.
35:56: He Who Remains really broke the fourth wall.
56:40: Definitely not.
57:13: Good news, the TARDIS wiki has a page on Shockeye.
1:00:57: John Dies at the End is a thing, I guess.
1:03:06: Check out CRT Pixels on twitter for examples of this.
1:04:00: Children of the Stones really was 2 years ago, damn. (Editor’s note: can’t believe 2020 was 15 years ago.)
1:05:57: The series, I guess if you’re really curious, is called Bug Out. And here’s the commercial. Kiyan probably shouldn’t watch this. (Editor’s note: this was actually funny.)

UFO 9 – Destruction
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
03/30/22 • 68 min
This week we learned not to plant seeds in Straker’s head.
Sometimes I wonder if maybe the biggest threat to SHADO is Straker himself. So many of the things he does seem to be the detriment to the organization as a whole, it’s a hard theory to ignore. Should Straker be replaced? Was Paul onto something in Kill Straker? Find out this week, on Destruction, written by Dennis Spooner and aired on December 2, 1970.
Show-notes:
2:15: Yeah Timelash was written by noted unknown Glen McCoy.
20:51: The amnesia drug in Torchwood was called Retcon.
20:30: Find out more about Peri being a botanist and Mel being a programmer over on Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast, our Doctor Who podcast.
21:25: More information on Billington continuously testing for Bond.
28:21: I couldn’t find out why UFO was aired in whatever order each station wanted to air it in, but the Gerry Anderson wiki notes that certain episodes premiered simultaneously thanks to all the stations that aired the show just doing whatever they want.
30:26: Go read about when the non-dominant hand is better for yourself.
46:30: Ice Station Zebra is a movie that stars Patrick McGoohan, and which is actually kind of boring. (Editor’s note: It gets better in the last 10 minutes, kind of like this episode.)
49:33: Don’t worry Kiyan, here’s some information for you on UFOs.
50:20: It was called alienstock, believe it or not. If only Naruto run guy were there.
52:20: Google’s pronunciation says it’s pronounced fav-ih-con, but Lexico says it’s fave-a-con.
56:57: For context, check out our Blake’s 7 podcast, Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast.
1:01:40: I knew it was a partnership, but K9 was actually created by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, not Pip and Jane Baker.

UFO 18: Timelash ft. Steven Shinder
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
08/17/22 • 77 min
Is there a spacelash?
Timelash, spacelash, temporallash, they’re all the same thing. It’s just a time corridor that links you to the future. Or the past. And you have to jump into it and travel through time and... I don’t know where I’m going with this, it’s 10:30 at night and I only just remembered I needed to edit the episode and quite frankly I’m already half asleep so cut me some slack. It’s Timelash, written by Terence Feely and aired on February 17, 1971.
Show-notes:
0:39: It took Steven all of 39 seconds (10 of which were the intro music) to reference the Doctor Who episode Timelash.
1:55: Sad news today gang, Lexico is on the way out.
7:15: Thankfully Steven sent us the link to the massive mayo gummy bear.
17:20: Spoiler Alert: “combatist” is not a word. (Editor’s note: who cares, is now.)
22:00: We have an episode on A.B. and C. earlier on Inevitable.
22:16 And I have a three part blog post about the Prisoner video game which you can read on this very website. Wow. Here’s part one.
40:17: Wikipedia has a surprising amount of information on the UAP Task Force.
1:03:50: Kiyan is referencing the “always has been” meme in a rare moment where Kiyan references a meme made after 2008.
1:13:43: Here’s links to all of Steven’s Stuff, from his email:

UFO 15 – Flight Path
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
07/27/22 • 65 min
The FAA did not approve this episode.
I had a flight path filed once, for the local airport. It was a pretty steep path, came in right over these houses. And we saw a guy just standing in the road with a rocket launcher. I dunno how they got there, but there they were. Just shooting off some missiles. It’s Flight Path, written by Ian Scott Stewart and aired on January 12, 1971.
Show-notes:
8:00: Alright here’s the SHADO Library timeline yet again. I feel like I should just link it at the start of the show-notes every week.
10:41: Firefox is a well known web browser. (Editor’s note: lol. (Editor’s note: “lol” stands for “laugh out loud.”))
25:19: Speaking of Blake’s 7, here’s where I shill our Blake’s 7 podcast, Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast.
29:20: Here’s the Japanese intro to UFO, which features a voiceover narration that isn’t in the original.
54:30: Check for yourself if you think he looks like John Lithgow or not. Here’s George Cole on IMDB, and here’s John Lithgow.

The Prisoner 17 – Fall Out
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
10/21/20 • 83 min
Help, I’ve fallen out and I can’t get up!
And so we come to the end of yet another show on Inevitable. We’re really just motoring through them now, and honestly with the quarantine and everything it works out pretty well given the lack of “going out” we’re all doing. And so with that I present to you definitely the last episode of this season absolutely. It’s Fall Out, written by Patrick McGoohan and aired on February 1, 1968.
Show-notes: 16:30: Here’s one person’s interpretation of Play-doh’s cave as it pertains to education.
47:52: Check out Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast
53:47: Here’s the Bonnie and Clyde scene where they get shot to smithereens.
55:21: Here’s the syringe scene. And yes, it was from Saw 2. Watch at your own risk.
1:04:08: Here’s a definition of heterotopia that touches on stuff The Prisoner talks about.
1:05:55: No pun intended.
1:10:21: It is Paul.
1:12:43: Mise en abyme

UFO 10 – The Square Triangle
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
04/06/22 • 57 min
Our audio tracks somehow got slightly misaligned in this episode, so the conversation is a little off. Sorry.
I never realized triangles could be squares you know?
In the future, I think we should aim to reduce the number of sides in a polygon, rather than increasing. So that would be the triangle would go to... the biangle? Which is possible, just not in flat space. If you have a positively curved space time you can have a polygon of two sides that intersect into two angles. If you continue down this line of thinking...[introduction truncated for brevity]. it’s The Square Triangle, written by Alan Patillo and aired on December 9, 1970.
Show-notes:
3:40: I proceeded to explain this in the worst way possible. But anyway, go checkout the trailer for Legend of the Sea Devils, I guess. And then check out Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast, our Doctor Who podcast.
4:33: I’ll save you all some time and just link you the Blue Box Podcast episode. I won’t tell you what we covered though, that’s for you to find out. (Editor’s note: It’s because you didn’t bother scrubbing through to find out, isn’t it?)
11:58: Do I need to tell you who Avi Arad, Amy Pascal and Kathleen Kennedy are?
15:11: Alien 3 had some golden dialogue, as proven by this scene.
16:00: It’s 3 in the morning and I’m not reading this shit. But yes, manslaughter exists across the pond.
24:40: Here you are, Firearms regulation in the United Kingdom. Basically they spent like a 100 years putting into placemore and more restrictions.
33:36: Luckily for us the podcast isn’t in danger of a hostile takeover. (Editor’s note: yet.)
37:10: Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast is our Blake’s 7 podcast.
52:54: Here’s Steven’s link to the Seinfeld clip.
54:19: Here’s the video where I got this info from like three years ago.

UFO 25: The Responsibility Seat
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
10/05/22 • 77 min
You could argue that I (Dylan) have the responsibility seat, since I edit these shows every week.
I actually recently adjusted my chair and have massively improved my seating arrangement. My arms can rest a little more naturally on the table now, instead of feeling like they’re at my shoulders all the time. It’s so much easier to type and just do things in general at my desk. It’s The Responsibility Seat, written by Tony Barwick and aired on July 31, 1971.
Show-notes:
19:45: We’re about to talk about Ayshea pretty extensively, so I’ll just preemptively link her Wikipedia page, as well as the wikipedia page for her television show, Lift Off with Ayshea. To add insult to injury, I guess, if this random guy is anything to go by we’ve been saying her name wrong for 25 weeks. It’s “Ay-shah”.
21:50: Teaboo is a slang term for someone obsessed with British culture.
30:35: Why is the GCHQ so generically named? The world may never know.
40:29: Who Dares Wins, therefore who wins dares.
1:01:14: Check out Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast, our Doctor Who podcast. There’s only like one episode left of it at time of writing lol.
1:07:24: We didn’t discuss this on air, but yes, the plans to review the UFO audio are most likely scrapped, unless Kiyan changes his mind for some reason.
1:11:19: Listen to our friends over at Flight Through Entirety at their website.

UFO 11 – Close Up
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
04/13/22 • 65 min
This week on Space Inevitable: A Space Sci-Fi Space Podcast.
I’m ready for my close up, are you? Cuz this week the aliens are coming in full force to take some snaps of us while we podcast. That’s right, real live aliens are currently taking pictures of us right now. You could be their next feature, their next cover model! So you better make sure you’re looking your best while you listen. It’s Close Up, written by Tony Barwick and aired on December 16, 1970.
Show-notes:
9:22: We do actually know. Here’s wikipedia’s page on Barry Gray. Other Barry Gray soundtracks include Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 AD.
14:28: Libra is a book that Kiyan has read. Lee Harvey Oswald was the name of the guy who killed Kennedy by the way. I couldn’t remember his name.
24:09: Here’s a clip from Space Odyssey where some classical music plays over some space shots, just for you.
33:15: Here’s the article I’m reading off of about wearing wigs in parliament, as our British fans scream to see me unironically link to The Mirror.
52:39: You know what, why not, I’ll link to this picture for you.
53:56: We (Kiyan) were (was) wrong, it’s the 1953 Robin Hood that’s the Patrick Troughton one.
55:13: For more about Paul Darrow, check out the entire podcast we did about him (mostly), Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast.
56:47: Good thing for you I’ve already looked up 4D Special Agents for you.

UFO 24: Reflections in the Water
Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
09/28/22 • 52 min
The past few days I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating life, staring at my reflection.
I used to have a fish pond at my parents house. It was filled with Koi. They used to stay pretty small since it was a small pond, and they’d eat the algae at the bottom. Sadly most of them are dead now, because of a stork that kept coming through and eating them. It’s Reflections in the Water, written by David Tomblin and aired on July 24, 1971.
Show-notes:
9:43: This little piece of trivia comes directly from the Gerry Anderson wiki page on Reflections in the Water.
19:00: The fact that this is the last episode broadcast somehow seems remarkably prescient given the announcement at the end of our episode. (Editor’s note: *shrieking emoji*)
24:56: We revisited Keys of Marinus at one point, and you should go and check it out.
25:11: I genuinely don’t know which Blake’s 7 episode Kiyan is talking about. I mean, I remember it, I just don’t remember the name at all. (Editor’s note: I’m pretty sure it was Dawn of the Gods. Also, check out our Blake’s 7 podcast, Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast.)
38:00: I’ll let Kiyan link this one. Gotta give him something to do. (Editor’s note: here it is, Jaden’s legendary tweet. One for the ages if we’re being honest.)
43:40: Check out our Doctor Who podcast, Trust Your Doctor: A Doctor Who Podcast. While it lasts.
45:21: Dylan commentary: I’m emotional just editing this episode and I’ve gotta do this another four more times still. (Editor’s note: buckle up.)
