Green With Envy: A Boston Celtics Podcast - Celtics PRIDE: Final Thoughts on the Season, Top 5 What Ifs, and Off-Season Musings
play

06/23/22 • 55 min

With the 2021-2022 season officially over, Josh and Mike try to regroup after the emotional rollercoaster of a year that almost led to Banner 18. Instead, Josh, Mike, and Celtics fans, players, coaches, and staff are collectively exhausted and ready to regroup.
Josh and Mike give their quick reactions about the C’s run to the Finals, whether the better team won, and whether the season should be considered a success (short answer: obviously, yes!). They credit the great defense and unique talents of the Warriors, and salute the Celtics for making it as far as they did – well beyond any preseason expectations.
Then, the guys look at a number of big “What Ifs” about the season, pondering what might have been if things had fallen just a bit differently. To name just a few of the questions they grappled with: What If the Celtics Had Closed Out the Earlier Rounds More Quickly? What if TimeLord Was Fully Healthy? What if Kris Middleton was Fully Healthy!?
Finally, the guys started to scratch the surface of the offseason to come. Josh provided his draft deep cuts, profiling a promising array of guys he feels could realistically be available for the C’s at 53. Mike, meanwhile, has his eyes cast on trades and free agency, excited by Brad Stevens and Wyc Grousbeck’s comments indicating they’re willing to go into the tax this year, and knowing the C’s have plenty of tools (particularly TPEs) at their disposal.

This podcast episode is for draft junkies and those who want to familiarize themselves with the Celtics options at pick number 45 - in the middle of the second round of the upcoming NBA draft on Thursday, July 29. Adam and Josh Motenko are joined by special guest Adam Spinella, who leads CelticsBlog’s draft coverage and has put out some impressive draft video content on his YouTube channel of late.   What are the Celtics needs going into the draft? Can they fulfill any of them with just a mid second round pick? Adam Spinella and Josh Motenko go back and forth giving their top players they want Brad Stevens and the Celtics brass to select based on who may realistically fall into and through the beginning of the second round. This podcast is not for the faint of heart. It is for real draft-nicks only... and Celtics fans too! Be warned. Open up YouTube as you listen so you can put a face and a game to the names from this list - starting with the #1 guy on both of their lists: Villanova’s Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. “He does all the little things on defense - he’s the definition of the gritty great-teammate role-player.” Adam Spinella. “I think he’s one of the most NBA ready players in this draft.”   They break down the fit of other sleepers like U. Houston’s Quentin Grimes, Alabama’s Herb Jones and many more. Next, Coach Josh asks Coach Spins, some rapidfire questions about some of the other prospects who may still have some upside, and some other names and themes that make this year's draft unique. This is a true draft junkie's deep dive. The Celtics PRIDE Podcast is celebrating episode 100 with an instant reaction to the Celtics Game 4 win over the Miami Heat. It's a solo episode for Josh Motenko as he recounts how the Celtics won game 4, and attempts to give some big picture perspective on the series with the Miami Heat as a whole.

The Heat were 0-14 from the field to start the game due to the Celtics defensive intensity and the basketball gods putting a lid on the rim the Heat players were shooting at. Meanwhile Derrick White had the first half the Celtics needed from their point guard with Marcus Smart out of the lineup, as White scored the Celtics first 7 points of the game all by himself. He added 3 steals, and sold some important foul calls against the Heat that lead to Boston shooting an astounding 26 free throws in the half (including 14 from Jayson Tatum alone).

In this short episode, Coach Josh breaks down what went well for the C's, and how Jaylen Brown and Tatum responded after their less-than-desirable performances in Game 3 on Saturday.

The Celtics are now 5-0 after a loss in the 2022 playoffs, and are 2-2 in the series going into game 5 in Miami Wednesday.

Celticsblog.com founder and CEO Jeff Clark joins the Celtics PRIDE guys to talk about the upcoming Celtics season, reminisce about the start of the blog and to test Jeff’s memory of things he’s written. Adam Motenko, Josh Motenko @coachmotenko and Mike Minkoff @mikeminkoffnba, start by asking Jeff which Celtics player he called “3Pac”, who he described as “a hot mess, but our hot mess.” Find out which former Celtics Jeff called his “binky” which Celtic draft pick Jeff was most wrong about. Then they get into a discussion about the upcoming season. Just how optimistic is Jeff this year? How far does he think the team can go? Who is he sneakily excited about? Should we worry about Marcus Smart? What about Robert Williams’ injury history? Who Jeff thinks is our closing lineup at the end of the season. Josh ends the podcast by taking Jeff back in time to look at the prominent players both on the Celtics and on the blog that built the site.   Rate review subscribe Remember to rate, review, subscribe and follow us on Twitter at @CelticsPridePod, or individually @MikeMinkoffNBA and @CoachMotenko.
