Episode 26 Reaching out with Alison Swift
Get Work Savvy
08/11/19 • 40 min
Alison shares her story of breaking through her battle with anxiety and how she went on to fulfill her childhood dream of starting her business Ask Ali Ltd.
Key Takeaways
Life doesn't always go to plan - Life often throws us curveballs, try your best to keep going and remember that you aren't always going to be offered everything on a plate, think of your journey as stepping stones to getting where you want to be.
Find out what you are good at - It is important to discover what you are good at alongside what you enjoy. Try to follow your own path, it's not for others to decide or guide you in what it is you enjoy, by all means, listen and consider what is being said, but make decisions for you!
I can do - One of Alison's affirmations, try using this phrase to give yourself the inner belief you need to succeed in whatever you are striving for.

Episode 22 - No Such Thing As Can't with Emma Sheardown
Get Work Savvy
03/25/19 • 34 min
Emma Sheardown is a Motivational Speaker who previously had a career in International Para Dressage.
Not only does Emma share her incredible story, including the challenges she has overcome, but she also explains how she found her new career after loosing what was for the longest time, her way of life.
Congratulations to Emma who has also been booked to speak at her first TedX talk! Congratulations Emma, thank you for appearing on this weeks show and we wish you much success for the future.
Key Takeaways
Make a Plan - even if you have what you think is a path that is perfect for you.
Mental Preparation - be less emotional and prepare for the good and bad scenarios to help you deal with anything that arrives.
Train as if it is real - Put as much effort into your training as if you were being paid like the top professionals. If you have that mindset then you will push yourself to get better.
No such thing as can't - Emma was told she woudn't be able to walk, yet she was able to defy the odds and win a gold and silver medal riding a horse.
No excuses - Excuses are things that we use to tell us it's ok not to bother. Don't be that person that lives with regret!

This week, Episode 21 no less, I jump into the interview chair as John Hinchliffe was kind enough to offer his time as the interviewer! So firstly a massive thank you to John!
Join me as I explain how I found my way into the world of E-Products, what on earth an E-Products developer does.
( For those who noticed I introduce myself as an E-Products manager, I have been promoted into the manager position since recording this episode)
Key Takeaways
Don't Settle - if you find yourself getting comfortable then push yourself to take that next step.
Don't worry about getting found out as a inposter - most people experience this feeling, if this is something that is stopping you from taking that risk, or striving to find your dream job then try to put this to the back of your mind!
Be positive - For me, I would want to be around those positive people over those who have more of a negative outlook. So be positive and believe in what you are trying to achieve!
Get started - even the experts were beginners at one point, start learning, start building your skills, knowledge and experience in whatever way you can!

Welcome to episode 17 of the Get Work Savvy podcast where we discover how people have found a way to get paid for what they are passionate about.
This week we speak to James and find out how he went from a successful banking career to begin and win awards for his company Clever Cogs.
Key Takeaways
Make the jump when you feel comfortable - Timing is all down to you, some call it fiat, but make sure you are calling the shots, build confidence and make decisions when you feel the time is right!
Solve a problem - If you are lost for what to do, then think about how you can help to solve a problem someone is likely to have, with the skills or knowledge you posses.
Cant be good at everything – James explained how he sacrificed his free time at the start of his journey, but how he realised how important it is to find people who can support your and help you grow. Make sure you don’t forget about you, take time for you to relax and avoid burning out!
Could be worse – don’t let one hurdle bring you down, hurdles will be there to overcome, just think of them as a test to how bad you want to do something. Remember to keep calm and you'll often find a solution.
Set targets - Instead of being overwhelmed by a large mountain to climb, visualise what you want to achieve, reverse engineer how you can get there and set realistic short term goals!
