We’re getting into the holiday spirit with Edward Scissorhands, a movie that Blaire swore we would never do on this podcast because It Is Sad. But how could we not do this iconic Tim Burton movie and celebrate the costumes by the legendary Colleen Atwood? Tune in to hear us discuss all of our favorite looks, from Edward’s leather daddy ‘fit to the sweet matching sets Winona Ryder wears in the film, plus the over-the-top wigs, buff Danny Elfman, and more.

"Do you care for the Artist Formerly Known as Prince?" For this week’s Stripper Month-themed episode, we’re heading back to 1996 to hang out at the Eager Beaver! Demi Moore made headlines for her portrayal of a single mom-turned-exotic dancer in Striptease. The Oscar-winning costume designer Albert Wolsky (Grease, All That Jazz, Bugsy, Revolutionary Road) dressed Moore in sequin bikinis, platform go-go boots, and feather boas, but let’s not forget about style icon Burt Reynolds and his Vaseline-filled cowboy boots! We also discuss weird TikTok cooking videos and Jennifer Coolidge’s caftans in White Lotus.

Simply Irresistible

Congrats to Blaire for today's episode, because she has been requesting we do Simply Irresistible for a while! It's her favorite movie, and you'll soon learn why...it takes place in a world where a magical crab turns a crappy chef (Sarah Michelle Gellar) into an amazing one whose food makes everyone horny! This movie may have gotten a 16% at Rotten Tomatoes, but it gets a 100% for costumes who are by Janie Bryant (Mad Men, Why Women Kill, It). But that's not all! None other than Todd Oldham is responsible for all of Sarah Michelle Gellar's looks!!! So grab yourself a plate of Crab Napoleon, sit back and relax, and enjoy the show.

It’s stripper month here at Fishnet Flix and we’re kicking things off with Zola! We’ve been waiting for the “Thotyssey” to come out 4-eva and it did not disappoint. The costumes designed by Derica Cole Washington that Taylour Paige and Riley Keough wear throughout the movie are perfection. Vintage Dior, Fashion Brand Company, Zara, even some ASOS in there, and the lowkey homages to Wizard of Oz, Clueless, Romy & Michele are brilliant. We’re adding vintage LV Speedys to our carts, thank you! Tune in now and let us know what you think on the socials.

Today on the pod, Blaire and Marie are discussing the iconic What A Way to Go,! which starred Shirley MacLaine as a four-time widow dressed to the nines, courtesy of thee Edith Head! Head was one of the most prolific costume designers of her time — a true legend, and this film was one of her best. We're talking over 72 costumes (including that head-2-toe pink number that was all over our Tumblr feeds back in the day), at a budget of over half a mil, with $3.5 million in Harry Winston bling. Just DE-GORGEOUS! We also discuss Blaire being accidentally babysat by Shirley MacLaine and Paul Newman's fine ass...

I Know Who Killed Me

Fishnet Flix: A Costume Design Podcast

08/24/21 • 32 min

"She always felt like half a person. Half a person with half a soul." We’re closing out stripper month with the 2007 Lindsay Lohan cult classic I Know Who Killed Me (aka Parent Trappin’ per Blaire). Lohan plays a college student who is tortured by a sadistic serial killer, then when she is found, claims to be a stripper named Dakota. This movie has everything: Twin Peaks vibes, a decent amount of gore for horror heads, the woman who plays the nun in The Nun, an Art Bell cameo for Coast to Coast fans, two Real Housewives, and a Sphynx cat with big balls. Costumes by Rachel Sage Kunin (Jane the Virgin, Dallas).
