Fertility and Chinese Medicine Expert Heidi Brockmyre on How to Have Better Periods, PERIOD.](https://storage.googleapis.com/goodpods-images-bucket/episode_images/1ef8362d79d8584ce8fb72f7a5d08b206be73031e789d7f84e1caef8bd113fdc.avif)
My guest today is a master of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Heidi Brockmyre is a fertility savior and, to quote my own words that I actually said in this podcast episode, Heidi will give you a nudge in the right uterus direction. It’s freaking fantastic how Heidi has focused her efforts, passion and brilliance towards fixing issues surrounding fertility. As of this recording, she’s helped hundreds if not thousands of women and couples become conception success stories using Chinese medicine techniques. And if you’re not itching to get knocked up anytime soon don’t skip this chat because as Heidi explains (and I have her reiterate a dozen times): anything that makes you more fertile also makes your cycle healthier in general, which makes you happier overall so baby on the brain or not this is a chat not to be skipped like your period on birth control because you’re going on vacation not like I know anything about....
Press play to hear:
- How acupuncture can help you get preggers
- How to have a healthier uterus in 48 hours
- Just got off the pill? Why you shouldn’t freak out while your body’s trying to reset
- Some good reasons to try acupuncture and Chinese medicine before fertility drugs
- What constitutes a healthy period... and what doesn’t
- Aspects of fertility every woman should care about
- Wussup with acupressure
- How digestion and fertility are actually linked
- How to eat for better fertility
- And lots more!

![Existennial - [party in my plants] 118: A Lesson in Saying THANKSforGIVING Us Pain to Turn into Purpose (and to Tune us into Wellness). with Brittany Piper](https://storage.googleapis.com/goodpods-images-bucket/episode_images/f8adf19975bf59f1810a23c67a62976e8c567d6cd216a5167b1a2d0f95f54883.avif)
My guest today is a survivor, speaker, activist and storyteller. She’s a wearer of many hats. Which we get deep into in this chat. This is also a deep chat in many other ways because my guest and darling friend Brittany Piper has overcome not just one, but many of the most horrific events any of us could imagine: sexual assault, eating disorders, the death of her brother and alcoholism. Brittany, not to sound cliche, turned her pain into purpose and is now a leading national expert speaker on sexual violence and prevention, as well as a healing and wellness coach. She uses her story of adversity, resilience and triumph to empower and inspire women to take brave action in their own lives and communities and she uses her story of trauma to inspire me in this interview to OWN my own stories even more than I already own my own stories, and I hope she inspires you in this chat to own yours too. And to watch more Law and Order SVU.
Press play to hear:
- How Brittany miracuously decided to see her trauma as a gift.
- The importance of OWNING your stories (and how that relates to ice cream!).
- That more experiences than you might think count as trauma. And why that’s ok. Even good?
- How to maybe stop using alcohol as a tool, if you are?
- How to use letter writing as a form of self love.
- Why sharing is way more than caring.
- A few good Law and Order SVU analogies.
- How breath and plants are legit a form of healing from trauma.
- And a lot more!

![Existennial - [party in my plants] 106: When Breakfast is Way More than Breakfast, with Ksenia Avdulova of Breakfast Criminals](https://storage.googleapis.com/goodpods-images-bucket/episode_images/a965a721c0b5e97a9d4e66cb6eb223a90642be2fe7003c57c0cf7399e8e89a19.avif)
09/13/18 • 67 min
The story of today’s guest is a long and winding and one that involves crime, international borders and an eff ton of breakfast. Ksenia Avdulova is the breakfast eater behind the @breakfastcriminals an award-nominated wellness brand that meticulously manages to merge food with mindfulness. (And dangerously leads to acai and smoothie bowls cravings on the regular.) What started as a whatevs, yolo instagram account devoted to sharing healthy brekkies has since transformed into much more than talking about the mornin’ meal, Ksenia’s now really the leader of a self love and self realization movement who believes that How you start your day is really - how you live your life. (Which explains why she loves to start hers in her signature heart-shaped bowl.) I only thought it was apropos for me to much on my breakfast protein waffles while interviewing Ksenia so if you think you’re hearing chews, you’re not imagining it! It’s me!
Get stoked to hear:
- A twisty-turny immigration story (that totally has to do with breakfast)
- How (and why) Ksenia started making her own acai bowls
- What started Ksenia's self-care journey (featuring a rock icon lookalike)
- Why the most important thing is to enjoy your food and eat mindfully
- How to practice your intuition and decide if you need chocolate or a hug
- What to ask yourself when you're standing in front of all the ice cream
- The traditional way to eat acai bowls (it's not what you see on Instagram)
- Why more superfoods isn't so super
- What sparked Ksenia's passion for authenticity and conscious consumerism on social media
- The reality TV show Ksenia once applied for (!)
- What you should do if you're not into eating in the A.M.
- And lots more!

![Existennial - [party in my plants] 88: Eat Plants. Take Epic Dumps. Hear this Digestible Conversation about Gut Health! with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz](https://storage.googleapis.com/goodpods-images-bucket/episode_images/aadbc9269790838cfa6aebaefb724f31696a44b9365761d3729aa101e23e4239.avif)
My guest today is one of a kind. He’s also just, kind. Dr. Will Bulsiewicz is a speaker, blogger, father, husband, microbiome specialist and a full time practicing Gastroenterologist. Now admittedly, I haven’t had the best experiences with gastro’s - I saw a couple many years ago in the heyday of my digestive struggles and they were not personable, not helpful and nowhere close to being on the “food-affects-your-gut-health” train. So aside from Dr. B’s hilarity, well-spoken-ness and palpable through the phone sincerity for educating and helping heal guts, the fact that he’s as passionate about plants as any person I’ve ever encountered -- which goes back to what I said earlier about him being one of a kind. Aside from being seen in scrubs and colonoscopies at and The Lowcountry Gastroenterology Practice in South Carolina, he’s been featured in Men’s Health, Huff Post, Women’s Health, & Reader’s Digest and hear me when I say his instagram account: @theguthealthmd is a hoot and a half plus an extra half of having helpful information!
Press play to hear:
- Why doctors aren't being taught about food, nutrition, and diet.
- All about the microbiome, baby!!
- The very bad effects of losing gut diversity.
- How stress messes with your digestion. (My favorite topic.)
- The magic of fiber and how it's like a super hero.
- How sad the Standard American Diet really is...
- The #1 one thing we can add to our diets to improve our gut health!
- Advice for raising kids to have healthy tummies.
- A garden analogy to explain probiotics and prebiotics.
- And SO. MUCH. must-hear. MORE. !!

Dr. Yami (rhymes with Mommy) has it going on. She’s a pediatrician (who only owns her own practice), an author, a health and wellness coach, a mom, a wife, the brains behind Veggie Fit, a podcast host, a speaker and a kick-ass family chef...and in this chat she really spills the *beans* on some great parenting truths that we all really needed to hear. We chatted about body positivity, not conflating inner health with outer appearances, encouraging kids to feel open minded at dinner time, allowing your youngins to eat intuitively, and backing the heck off to let them do so! Seriously, this episode was great. We tooks myths around children leading a vegan lifestyle and smashed ‘em up like a ripe avocado! And holy guacamole, do I ever feel like we packed this episode with all the good stuff and left no questions unanswered for our planty moms and dads or anyone caring for our inner child out there!
Press play to hear:
- How to entice picky eaters
- How your family *can* actually become vegan

- A heavy dose of body positivity
- Your parenting kitchen hacks that actually work
- Why fat-shaming has no place in your role as a parent

I’m excited to present a new monthly installment of LAUGH WITH YOUR MOUTH FULL! Lighthearted real life chit chats with smart and articulate people I love while we eat healthy planty foods we love. This episode explores how three of my dearest friends and I are doing our best to healthfully navigate this scary season of Coronavirus quaranatine. At the time of this recording, my mouth was full of snap peas.
Katie Dalebout the host of Let it Out with Katie Dalebout, the author of Let it Out: A Journey Through Journaling and the creator of the Let It Outttt platform and self-growth KITS. You might’ve heard her before in episode 22 of this PIMP podcast. She’s quarantined in sunny LA. Her mouth was full of banana boats.
Katie Horwitch is a writer, speaker and founder of the Women Against Negative Talk platform & podcast. She’s also a spin instructor extraordinaire and her audio workouts on Aaptiv are phenomenal. You heard her before in episode 122 and she’s quarantined in my beloved NYC. Her mouth was full of pickles!
Phoebe Lapine is a cookbook author, chef, and food blogger at FeedMePhoebe.com. She’s written two books, In the Small Kitchen and The Wellness Project, and she hosts the SIBO Made Simple Podcast (+ is writing a third book by the same name)! Her interviewS on this podcast were #37 and #82 and she is quarantined on beautiful Martha’s Vineyard. You know that saying “put your money where your mouth is?” well my guest today puts her science where her mouth is. And puts nutritious plants in the bodies of athletes. So they can put trophies on their mantels and pride in their hearts..? Well, Angie Asche is a sports dietitian and one super smart dairy free cookie. Angie’s been a plant partier herself since 2011 and for the past five years, she’s been running her own private sports nutrition practice called Eleat Sports Nutrition. She advises athletes like pro sports players, gymnasts, ultra runners, figure skaters, and even every day type-a athletes like myself. Her husband, Cody Asche, also plays baseball professionally in the MLB so I got to pick her brain on how these guys manage to eat healthy when they’re always on the road traveling to different dugouts and stuff! Since I’ve dramatically upped my own athleticism in the past couple of years, I may have rapid-fired every question about planty sports nutrition I’ve ever had and Angie demystified it all - from the deal with iron, glutamine, protein and even how to travel with bananas which I still call BS on but whateverrrr...

Dr. Josh Axe is that dude (and doctor) who seems to have it all figured out. He’s a certified doctor of natural medicine, a doctor of chiropractic and a clinical nutritionist with a passion for helping people get healthy by empowering them to use nutrition to fuel their health. Men’s Health calls him a guru of all things ayurvedic medicine and ancient Chinese medicine, and when I feel like I need to find the culprits of anything that ails me or get the trusted and research backed lowdown on the latest popular plant or wellness trend, I visit his website A BUNCH. As do 17 million other people...a month. I love getting to sit down with a doc who can spill smart stuff on any topic I ask about. In this chat Dr. Axe dished out some wisdom on everything from deplorable keto diet mistakes (it’s NOT about butter fried cheese with bacon, thank you very much) to sneaky and yummy ways to up your herbs and spice intake (if you’re not already on the turmeric band wagon, we’ll getchu there!) and he even takes us a little into woo-ville when he talks about how poor emotional health can lead to major organ health! So let’s roll the tape roll because the doctor will get off his massively popular Instagram account and see..us..now!
Press Play to hear:
- A heartfelt story on how Dr. Josh Axe fell in love with natural medicine
- Tips to encourage your loved one to adopt (at least partially) some traditional medicine practices

- Why your emotional health is so crucial for your physical health

My guest today is one of the smartest, sharpest and sustainable-ist women I am lucky to know. Ashlee Piper is an environmental activist, sustainable living hero, TV expert and the author of Give A Shit: Do Good. Live Better. Save The Planet. What I really like about her is that she brings an incredibly admirable level of intelligence to the table, she has all the stats and research to back up her points, she does it all with a great sense of humor. AND she’s not preachy about it. You likely won’t find a more, down to *earth* EARTH lady than this one. Ashlee’s out to educate, share her story and her knowledge but sans judgement which is so refreshing when it comes to veganism and environmentalism. So get out your recycled notebook, friend, because this chat is jam packed with notes to take to change yo’ lifestyle to help mama nature.
