The season is almost here and the DBR Podcast gang has an extensive preview of what to expect from our first opponent, the Kentucky Wildcats. This is not your typical John Calipari team, rather than being loaded with freshman phenoms, it is full of experienced transfers from other programs. We break down who the key players are for Kentucky and how they match up with the 2021-22 Duke Blue Devils. Then, after the commercial break, it is JJ Redick time. JJ recently joined ESPN as a NBA analyst and the DBR's Jason Evans got to listen in on a media availability that JJ had. When it came Jason's turn to ask a question -- you guessed it -- he wanted JJ's best Coach K story... and JJ came through with not one but two good ones.

The DBR Podcast crew is just as pumped as all of you about the Duke win over the Kentucky Wildcats, so they’re here to recap the big dub on Episode 356! We revive our recap format that includes a headline to describe the game. We then get into the good and the bad that we saw last night at the Garden, from Keel Mode and Paolo Banchero to Theo John and Wendell Moore’s efforts. After the break, Duke has 2 more games coming up against the Army Black Knights and Campbell Fighting Camels in the friendly confines of Cameron Indoor Stadium. We preview the two opponents and discuss what Duke has to do to win both games in the span of 27 hours.

The news hit the college basketball world like a thunderbolt, Coach K is stepping down and heading off into retirement. But, he isn't ready to hang it up just yet. He's going to have one last season, one final hurrah, at the helm of the program he built. And, it appears Coach K has picked assistant coach John Scheyer as his successor. DBR Podcast hosts Jason Evans and Sam Klein quickly hop on the line for their fast reaction to the news. Their biggest immediate takeaway is that this is a story that we will be talking about for many, many months and that it will have a ripple effect across all of college basketball and across the entire Duke world.

On this edition of the DBR Podcast, we discuss Duke's second consecutive postponed conference game, as tonight's scheduled matchup against FSU in Tallahassee was called off just 24 hours before tipoff due to positive tests in FSU's program. The guys discuss the ongoing madness of trying to keep up with the schedule as it changes constantly. Sam points out that Duke is potentially in danger of not playing enough games to qualify for the postseason, and Jason brings the math.

The discussion about the postponed games leads us down a few dirt roads, including wondering how other ACC coaches feel right now about the state of the schedule and various programs' culpability in keeping the season going.

After the break, Jason observes that during the short time on Friday that we thought Duke would play this game without Coach K, the head coach had tapped Jon Scheyer to fill in for him as long as he was out, and that may indicate how Coach K feels about the heirarchy on his staff. We can't be sure what it means for Scheyer's career, or that of Nate James, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Finally, we celebrate Duke Women's Basketball nabbing a highly ranked transfer from Louisville, freshman Nyah Green. Her arrival hopefully signifies another step for Kara Lawson bringing the program back to elite status.

We try to figure out what happened against Michigan State on Episode 256 of the Duke Basketball Report Podcast. On this episode, we spend a lot of time analyzing what went wrong in Duke's loss against the Michigan State Spartans. From the ineffective offense to the issues with intensity, we discuss what Duke needs to do to improve from here. We react to some quotes from the postgame press conference from Coach K, Jordan Goldwire, and Matthew Hurt, and we also react to a listener’s question about this year’s leadership and who it could be.

After the break, we discuss Duke Basketball’s upcoming game against Bellarmine and the fact that the game against the Elon Phoenix is now canceled due to coronavirus protocols within the Elon program. We preview Bellarmine and what we’re looking for the Blue Devils to do to get back on track.

Finally, Duke Football is back this weekend against the Miami Hurricanes instead of the Florida State Seminoles, so we see how Duke can pull off the upset against a Miami squad that has aspirations of making the ACC Championship Game. We end with an interesting note from Jason about Duke and dog names.
