Includes Boye's favorite Bible verse.

This week we’re sitting down with Boye Fajinmi who is the Co-Founder & President of TheFutureParty, a community-based media brand that NVE Experience Agency acquired in 2018. This is a great conversation about being an entrepreneur, starting a business, learning how to pivot, and how to best serve your community. Boye who was born in Nigeria, has always had big ambitions, so he moved from Minnesota to Los Angeles to live the “American Dream.” He has always had a passion for media, content, music, and film so he quickly found himself working at companies like Paramount Pictures and WME, but he wanted more. Being a creative, he was craving telling stories on his own terms and wanted to bring together a community of like minded individuals who were all as driven and ambitious as he was - so TheFutureParty was born! Hear Boye tell the story of how TheFutureParty came to be from early days of throwing parties to being acquired in 2018 and turning into the media beast it is today. Community is everything for Boye, and he shares the philosophy momentum that he lives by, his thoughts on Millennials and Gen Z, and the generational shifts of fulfillment happening as we speak. We round out this episode with a very important and timely conversation on race and Boye shares very openly about his experiences being a Black man in America and business. Be sure to stay to the end of the episode as Boye reads his favorite Bible verse.

DENtalks powered by DEN Meditation - 159. Nichol Bradford - Transformative Tech & Wellness
play

03/16/21 • 51 min

Includes an Affirmation practice.

This week Nichol Bradford, CEO & Founder of the Willow Group and the Executive Director and co-founder of the Transformative Technology Lab, joins us for a discussion on technology and human potential. If you’re wondering what technology possibly has to do with meditation, then this episode will be sure to enlighten you! Years ago, Nichol worked as CEO in the major gaming industry when she decided to spend her four weeks off at a vipassana meditation retreat in Japan. By the end of it, she walked out feeling deeply connected and asking herself how she could use her experience with technology to bridge a gap and make meditation and mental balance more accessible for all. With a surge of fearlessness, she moved to San Francisco, “the intersection of consciousness and tech,” and started working with other neuroscientists and wellbeing tech innovators who were studying the brain and the bio-states of people who were in these states. As they developed this research, they’ve been able to see why different techniques are important for each individual and how they can use technology to help people heal, grow, and prosper, both mentally and psychologically. We are so thrilled to have Nichol here to teach us all about her work, and we know you’ll be excited to learn about it too!

REPOST - Original episode released Aug 7, 2018.

Given the current state of our country, we felt it was necessary to bring back this very powerful and moving episode with Black Lives Matter Greater New York Founder, Hawk Newsome. It is so important for us all to educate ourselves and use our voices during this time and our hope is that this episode with Hawk can be a helpful resource to our community.

**Need resources? Check out our IG highlight for resources and ways you can get involved.

We are honored to have activist and founder of Black Lives Matter Greater New York, Hawk Newsome, is with us this week on DENtalks. He’s been called the next Martin Luther King Jr. as he is determined to lead the Black Lives Matter movement with love. Hawk has dedicated his adult life to the betterment of his community and our nation as a whole by bringing justice to an unjust system. Prior to founding Black Lives Matter Greater New York, he was a member of Justice League NYC. Not only has he helped victims of police brutality, he works with members of LGBT community, and victims of human trafficking. Over the past few years, he has worked tirelessly seeking justice for the families of those slain by police officers. He’s a Christian and he leans neither right nor left, instead he chooses to follow his heart and leads with love, compassion and kindness. Hawk sheds light on subjects some find difficult to discuss, including white privilege and his own anger. He is starting the necessary dialogue for change, and shows us how we all need to live through love.

Includes one of Jedidah's favorite poems.

We have a very special guest this week, travel writer, public speaker, and the author of “To Shake The Sleeping Self, Jedidah Jenkins, is with us on #DENtalksPodcast! This episode is a treat, we dig into Jedidah’s memoir of his 14,000 mile cycling trip from Oregon to Patagonia and the surprising (or not so surprising) lessons that came out of this brave adventure. Jedidah jumps right into some heavy topics such as the stages of enlightenment, dismantling the order we’ve been taught as children, questioning his strong Christian faith, navigating being a gay Christian, how the Discovery Channel was an outlet for his childhood curiosity, his internal experience in the Mexican desert alone with his bike, his perspective on social media and travel today, and even his theory on time. This episode has so many incredible takeaways, but one of the biggest lessons Jedidah shares is how a journey like the one he took, really do work in impacting and changing your life forever. It may not be on your expected timeline, but the journey is always working within you. He even shares a beautiful poem with us at the end of the episode for his Personal Practice - you don’t want to miss it!

Includes quote by Maya Angelou which you can always come back to.

We now call her the Queen of Quotes and we are so happy she came to chat with us. Actress Sarah Shahi, mom of 3, has more references and a perfect quote for every situation. As a regular client of the DEN we knew we had to get deep with her on DENtalks. You would never guess by how well read she is (and all the quotes) that it was only 3 years ago, with the death of her father, that she really started honing in on her studies of spirituality. However, when looking back, she shares some crazy stories that illuminate that she really has had a connection with the beyond from a very young age. We also dig in to the mainstream stuff, like how hard it is to balance a family, career and marriage - she has had to learn to let go and trust that through some of the most insane twists and turns, and what the outside world may perceive as fascinating choices, she is in fact, exactly where she needs to be. She shares how her kids are her biggest spiritual teachers and how she is now making stuff happen for herself. She has had a ton of ups and downs but is so relatable, smart, and in the zone of surrendering that she is a helpful guide in making life easier for all of us.
