No bigger issue in college sports is causing more of a debate than the Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) issue. All sides, both for and against the idea of letting college student-athletes earning money from outside marketing opportunities, have an opinion as it heads towards a final decision sometime in 2021 by the NCAA. In preparation for this major focus, we wanted to talk to some of the individuals involved in the debate so that college coaches can understand all sides of the issue. Our guest list for this episode includes: Mike DeCourcy from The Sporting News. Follow him on Twitter at @tsnmike Andy Schwarz, an economist specializing in antitrust & damages & sport economics. He is also one of the co-founders of a competing organization to the NCAA, the Professional Collegiate League (www.ThePCLeague.com). Follow Andy on Twitter at @andyhre Congressman Mark Walker (R) from North Carolina, one of the leading voices in national government for the idea of a free-market approach to letting student-athletes market themselves and earn an income while in college. Follow Congressman Walker at @Walker4NC Scott Bernstein is an attorney with the law firm of KaiserDillon, and has been involved in numerous legal cases surrounding college student-athletes, athletic departments, and the NCAA. He authored a widely-read article warning of possible pitfalls for student-athletes with the proposed framework of the NIL issue. Read it here: https://www.kaiserdillon.com/ncaa-finally-moves-on-compensation-but-pitfalls-for-student-athletes-abound/ And, author, consultant and longtime college athletic director Tim Selgo.
