Sustainable Business Management
Because you’re tuned into this podcast, I know that you want to see more simplicity in your life and business. I mean, why else would you download a business episode from a podcast called Chasing Simple, right? But maybe simplicity and sustainability sound great in theory, but are hard for you to practically come by.
And you certainly aren’t alone in that. I believe that simplicity is never going to be something we find once and for all, but is an ongoing practice. Which is why I show up here week after week, to share practical ways to implement simplicity in your life, business, and marketing. It’s also why I bring in experts to help share their own areas of expertise and how we can simplify those as well.
And this week, I’m so excited to be joined by Sabrina Gebhardt, a lifestyle photographer of more than 11 years in Fort Worth, Texas and a business coach to photographers and other creative entrepreneurs. She’s married to her college sweetheart, and together they have 3 kids and 2 dogs. Sabrina is a lover of caffeine, emojis, color, and reading anything she can get her hands on (which is how I just know you’re going to love her). She’s also a strong enneagram 3 who really does have to force herself to sit still, but over the years has learned that her business (and her sanity) benefit from slowing down.
And today she’s joining us to share with you some practical ways that you can build sustainability and slowing down into your business as well! You’re going to love some of these tips she’s brought with her, so without wasting any time, let’s dive on in!

Episode 123: Course Marketing – Launching vs Evergreen: Which is Right For Your Course?
Chasing Simple
08/30/22 • 20 min
How To Market A Digital Course
Live launching or evergreen launching. Which one is easiest? How do you do them? What do they require? How to market a digital course and, ultimately, which is right for you? In this week’s episode, I’m going to explore each type of “launch”, their pros and cons, and my personal opinion on which you should be utilizing for your digital course.
Links and Resources Mentioned in This Episode:
- Grab the 8 emails I send to my waitlist every launch – a new free resource for you!
- This week’s action step: Sign up for my free popup podcast – Course Launch Prep – Simplified. A three episode series created to help entrepreneurs prepare themselves to launch a course. I’m going to cover What You Need to Launch a Course ( & What You Don’t), the 5 Phases of a Course Launch, and Creating Your Launch Messaging. Episode 1 drops on September 7th, but you can go ahead and sign up and tune into the introductory episode by heading to amandawarfield.com/launch-podcast/
- This week’s book recommendation: Hang the Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur, and Count Your Lucky Stars. May be the first time I’ve ever rated a sequel higher than an original, but I only gave the first in the series 3 stars, and wasn’t even going to mention it to you. And while you could probably skip the first one and just read two and three, if you’re a completionist like me, it’s called Written in the Stars. All are written within the same friend group, and are your typical romcom novel. Book one focuses on the relationship between Darcy and Elle. Book two around Darcy’s brother and her best friend Annie. And Book three around Elle’s former roommate, Margot, and her childhood best friend, Olivia.

You’re listening to episode 123 of the chasing symbol podcast and I’m your host, Amanda Warfield. Let’s dive in.
Live launching, live launching is what most of us tend to think launching is when we think a launch or course launch, we’re thinking live launching it’s where you have doors open and doors close. You have a ton of hype around the launch and your stories on Instagram are all about the launch. You know, maybe you’ve got some way to take down names for all of your students and you’re celebrating each sale that comes in on your lives.
You’re going live, you are doing some sort of visibility booster, whether it’s a webinar or a Facebook group challenge or a popup podcast, all of these things where you are literally staying as active and as visible as possible. You’re literally going live as much as possible in order to make sales for your course.
Now there are pros and there are cons to live launching. Pros, you have the satisfaction of seeing a large group of sales roll in. You get that adrenaline boost, right? You also have a large revenue bump in your year. You know, when you’re looking at your year as a whole and how much revenue you brought in each month, launch months are always, are typically going to have a large bump in sales, which is great.
If you need to boost your cash flow a little. They create really easy urgency because you have doors open and then they close. And once the doors close, well, your people aren’t able to get back in until the next live launch. They also create adrenaline and excitement and they majorly boost the visibility for your business because you’re showing up more often, people are interacting wi...

How To Write Emails Your Audience Wants To Read
When I’m working with clients, email lists are always, without fail, at the bottom of their to-do lists and the lowest of their content priorities. I’m not sure why email marketing has gotten such a bad rep over the years, or if it’s just fear because it feels so intimate (because it is), or something else, but I am constantly finding myself in a position where I’m trying to push email marketing into a higher priority for clients and students.
But an email list? It’s an incredible way to nurture relationships with your people. They find you through social, or other visibility opportunities. You send them to your long form content so they can really get to know you and hear from you. But your email list? That’s where you continue to build that relationship.
Not to mention that it’s the BEST way for you to sell. Without a doubt.
But, because email marketing can seem so scary, I brought in an expert to help us make it a whole lot simpler.
Kate Doster is the host of the Do The Brave Thing Podcast, creator of the Love Your List 2.0 email marketing mega course and is dangerously obsessed with helping ethical entrepreneurs carve out their slice of the interwebs by wooing the hearts (and wallets) open of their small but mighty audiences thanks to fun email marketing and Easy Yes mini-offers. She believes you don’t need to bleed the alphabet or be a dirty rotten spam face to write emails that jolt subscribers into taking action, gobbling up your paid offers like candy... or kale if that’s your thing.
I mean, just by that bio, I know you know that she’s incredible at what she does right? Just wait until you hear this episode. Kate is a wealth of gold, and every time I hear her speak, I learn a hundred new things. It’s incredible. So, let’s introduce you to her, shall we?

*Just a heads up – the provided transcript is likely to not be 100% accurate.Welcome to Chasing Simple episode 116. I’m your host, Amanda Warfield. If you’re an old friend, welcome back. And if you’re a new friend. Hi, I am so glad that you’re here. Like I said, I’m Amanda, I’m a simplicity, focus, content marketing strategists, and Chasing Simple was created. Other entrepreneurs simplify their business so that they can enjoy running a business that supports their life.
When it comes to a content marketing strategy first step, I have been asked many times with the very first step is to creating one. And the answer might surprise you, which is why I’m addressing it today, as well as walking you through my four steps for creating a content marketing strategy. If you enjoyed today’s episode, I would be so grateful if you’d leave a review for the podcast, it helps more listeners find us.
And it also lets me know that I’m creating what you want. Need to hear. Let’s dive in.
When it comes to getting started with content marketing strategy. The true first step is consistency. I know it’s not exciting or fun or sexy, but if you are not consistent with your marketing, you are not ready to take the next step into strategic content. I have worked with numerous clients who were not yet consistent and because they were not yet consistent, the strategy that we created did nothing.
Consistency builds the know like, and trust factor with your audience consistently. Is foundational step for relationship marketing, for having a relationship with your audience, for your audience, trusting you, knowing that you’re the expert in what you are. Consistency is the foundation of all of that.
And when I’ve worked with clients in the past, who I’ve taken on because they promise this was a year, they were going to be serious and get consistent. What ends up happening is that we both. Waste our time, because what happens is we get on a call. we planned out this beautiful strategy.
We’ve got all these great content ideas. It’s moving people towards a sale, and then they don’t post anything.
And so we meet again, and I essentially tweak the dates. And send them back on their way with the exact same plan, because the strategy sound, they just haven’t posted it. So they haven’t moved their audience towards anything yet. And this is not speaking about one client in general, I’ve had numerous clients do this because they weren’t really ready for the strategy side of things yet they were not consistent yet.
And so we.meet And I gave him the same plan we meet and I give them the same plan and we meet and I gave him the same plan and they spend a whole year working together, not moving the needle with their content marketing for their business because they never get consistent. So get consistent before you do anything else before you worry about strategy before you worry about best practices, just.
Focus on consistency, focus on building a system. I recommend batch week, but building some sort of system that will get you con...

Episode 122: Making Time to Launch Your Course
Chasing Simple
08/23/22 • 18 min
Best Day To Launch A Course
Thinking of launching your very first course, but struggle with having just way too much on your todo list leaving you with absolutely no time to actually create and launch your course? If you can relate, you’re in exactly the right place, because today i’m sharing 5 tips for making (and saving) time with your own course launch! That way, you can get your course out into the world sooner than you think, instead of leaving it hanging in your mind until time magically opens up in your calendar (spoiler alert: it won’t!).
Links and Resources Mentioned in This Episode:
- Grab the 8 emails I send to my waitlist every launch – a new free resource for you!
- This week’s action step: Download my launch waitlist email guide where I outline the 8 emails I send to my waitlist for each course launch.
- This week’s book recommendation: Simple and Free: 7 Experiments Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker. Faith-based warning. One of my few 5 star ratings – I’m a sucker for a good simplicity type book or activity. Jen identified seven areas of excess – food, clothes, spending, media, possessions, waste, and stress, and spends 7 months focusing on simplifier one area at a time. In the book she shares her struggles, her wins, and her lessons learned.

The first tip I have for you to make time in order to actually get your course launched is to batch your content. If you’ve been a long time listener, you may be sick of hearing me say that I will never stop saying it though, because it really does free up so much time and mental energy in order to truly move the needle in your business. When you’re not so focused on constantly creating content, you’re able to actually work on projects because you have the time to, and you have the mental capacity to work on projects, which is gonna lead itself into another tip that I have later, but not only does batching your content, save you a ton of time and actually allow you to move that needle. But it also is going to make you consistent, and consistency is going to be so important, both for your sales of your future course launch and also for your mental health.
If you can show up consistently, you’re going to build relationships with your followers. When you have relationships with your followers, they’re going to convert into sales. The easiest and simplest way to show up consistently is to batch your content. It just is the way it is. So if you can set aside one week out of every single month to batch your content, I really, really encourage you to do so.
And here’s the thing. consistency doesn’t mean constantly. You don’t have to show up all the time. You don’t have to show up to best practices in order to be consistent. So if you’re like Amanda, like in theory, that sounds great. I just don’t have a week that I can ...

Episode 121: Should You Launch a Course?
Chasing Simple
08/16/22 • 25 min
How To Launch A Successful Online Course
The typical advice for when you should create and launch an online course is once you’ve created a successful offer. Most course educators suggest waiting until you have a strong 1:1 service offer, and a decent sized audience. But today i’m sharing a bit of an unpopular opinion: that that is not the only way. In fact, we’re going to cover two different types of course creators, the pros and cons of each, the reality of launching a course, three course launch myths, the number one question to ask yourself if you’re thinking of launching a course, and how to pick your topic. It’s a jam-packed episode that you aren’t going to want to miss, so let’s go ahead and dive right in.

- This week’s action step: send me a DM on Instagram with your topic idea and I’ll help you flesh it out! And be sure to grab my newest freebie – the waitlist email guide!
- This week’s book recommendation: You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus One reviewer claims that Karen should abandon the obvious cliches in favor of a more original and engaging plot, but I disagree. Book after book, she puts out bangers that I just can’t put down. If you’ve never read any of her stuff, it always revolves around a group of high schoolers, and murder. Completely unrealistic, but well done and a fun and quick read.

In fact, we’re going to cover two different types of course creators, the pros and cons of each the reality of launching a course, three course launch myths, the number one question to ask yourself, if you’re thinking of launching a course and how to pick your topic, it is a jam packed episode that you are not going to want to miss.
So let’s go ahead and dive right in. You’re listening to episode 121 of the chasing simple podcast. And I’m your host, Amanda Warfield.
Like I mentioned in the introduction, there are two different types of people that go about launching a course. You have the already successful service providers and then there’s me. What I mean by that is a lot of times you’ll see course educators suggest that you wait until you already have a successful offer to turn into a course before you actually launch your first course.
I did not do that, when I started my blog way back in 2018, which I can’t believe how long ago that was already, but when I started my blog way back then I knew from the moment I started that blog that I wanted to launch some kind of online course, I had no idea what the course would be about. I really didn’t know what I was doing in any capacity.
I wasn’t really sure what a business would look like. Alls I knew was that I was starting a blog on simplicity and that at some point I was going to launch a course.
And then I spent the first year of having my blog working on marketing. All I did really was create content, try to get on podcast episodes as a guest, be a guest blogger for other websites. That’s all I did for the first year in my business. Thus making me only $100 in the first year, which I’ve shared about before.
And then at the tail end of that first year decided I was gonna launch a course on creating your own capsule wardrobe and I spent months, months creating and outlining and filming all of this parts of this course, it was massive. And here’s the thing, I don’t think there’s a right or wr...

The first mistake that I see when it comes to content planning is that creators are planning launches that are too short. So what that would look like is you are teasing that something is coming. You drop that it’s open for purchase. You can buy it. Doors are open carts, open, however you want to phrase it.
And then a few days later you close the cart. Now, what I’m not saying is that the length of cart open to cart close is what’s too short. What the actual problem is, is that you need a launch runway. And what I see over and over again is people that are teasing. Hey, something’s coming. Hey, I can’t wait to share about this, but then the first time they truly share about it with their audience.
Is when the cart is open. And so by the time cart is closed, no one has really had time to decide whether or not it’s the right offer for them. You have to have a lunch runway. My goal, when I am launching something is always to make it so that most people know whether or not they’re going to buy it before I even open the cart.
If you want to hear more about what my launch strategy actually looks like, go listen to episode 1 0 3. I really encourage you to stop using this idea of teasing what’s to come as your entire launch runway. I’m not really sure where that idea came from. I know I’ve seen other marketers share to do it, but if the only chance people have to decide whether or not to buy is during cart open the cart close.
You’re not going to have as much success as you would. Otherwise you want people to be ready to buy when doors open that way, you already have most of your sales coming into the beginning of the launch and anything else or people that didn’t have it decided beforehand, but then did decide during the launch, but you want people for the most part to know before cart even opens that they’re planning on buying.
Now the second mistake that I often see with content planning is that you’re either planning too much or too little at a time. So if you’re planning too little you’re plan...
