Here are a few of the myths we bust:
1. MYTH: Refugees are not our responsibility and Canada is overburdened by a refugee crisis.
FACT: Canada shares the global responsibility to provide refuge for those fleeing war and persecution.
2. MYTH: Refugees unfairly take jobs and opportunities from Canadians.
FACT: Refugees possess many talents, skills and competencies and help contribute to the continued growth and prosperity of the domestic economy.
3.MYTH: Refugees unfairly skip ahead of immigrants.
FACT: The number of refugees accommodated does not affect the ability of immigrants to enter Canada.
4.MYTH: Canada’s refugee system is filled with “bogus” refugee claimants who abuse the system.
FACT: Refugees legitimately come to Canada to escape violence and persecution. Those applying for refugee status in Canada are required to pass several layers of screening and approval.
