To say that The Fast and Furious is one of cinema's most successful franchises would be an understatement. It has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, and has generated clout for so many people involved. From Justin Lin to James Wan to Rob Cohen, people have come in and made the cars go really fast, which in turn have made people show up in droves. But how did this franchise get to be so successful? And does it deserve the drubbing critics give the majority of its films? Join Matt, myself, and Alyx as we watch the franchise in order, and they have (force?) me to watch a lot of these with fresh eyes. With 2009's Fast and Furious rejuvenating the franchise, Daddy Dom Vin Diesel and company were set to put out another one. With director Justin Linn once again at the helm, everyone worked hard and fast to make sure the action was up to expectations. But this time, producers listened to their fans on Twitter -where every good filmmaking decision is made- and brought in some electricity to liven up the screen. In fact, it was the most electrifying man in sports entertainment, The Rock Dwayne Johnson. So did he add anything, and how do we feel about what is widely considered the best entry in the franchise?Join myself, Matt, and Alyx as we once again take some NOS and enter the world of the Fast and Furious franchise with this review of Fast 5.Fast 5 (2011) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW!Subscribe to Binge Cast on iTunes

Two books into this whole Stephen King Retrospective (though it is in fact the third book) and we might have hit the plateau. The Shining has an interesting set of distinctions in the author's bibliography. It remains one of the author's most popular books among readers. Yet, the original film adaptation has sparked more debate than anything that has ever been adapted. Is it a question of Stanley Kubrick taking the novel's contents and changing them in the name of the author, whom Kubrick had called 'a brat'? Or, is it really one of the scariest movies ever made, and King's shots at it over the unwarranted? Listen in as myself, Matt, and Adam rejoin to answer some of this debate. We've been doing this podcast for a number of years at this point. Yet, I have never been part of a retrospective that is as unpredictable as this one. After Adam shares the story of how he saw this for the first time (hint, it involved me), we get into the crazy making of Kubrick's one entry in the horror genre, The Shining. Is the casting as Nicholson as detrimental as King has made it out to be? Is this really a movie designed 'to hurt people? Or, is it the horror masterpiece that AMC special after AMC special have pointed out countlessly? Download below to find out!Come back next week as we look at Stephen King's answer to this what some call cinematic masterpiece, 1997's The Shining TV miniseries. The Shining (1980) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW!Subscribe to Binge Cast on iTunes

Manoj Nelliyattu, "M. Night" Shyamalan has had one of Hollywood's most interesting stories that could well have come from one of his scripts. After two independent movies which amounted to little success, Shyamalan set the world afire with 1999's The Sixth Sense, which took critics off guard, gathering six Academy Award nominations and rolling to an almost $700 million box office take, making it the most successful horror film all the way until 2017, when It finally knocked it off. But after a financial and critical success such as that, where do you go from there? Join myself, Matt, and the returning Michael Guarnieri as we take the journey to answering that question, which we begin with The Sixth Sense and will eventually lead to Shyamalan's new film Old, scheduled for release this July. It's finally here. After seven months of build up, Old, the cultivation of the Binge Movie Aftertaste M Night Shyamalan Retrospective, has hit theaters. But it almost didn't. After reading the graphic novel Sand Castle, which was given to him by his daughter, Shyamalan saw a story both in the book and out of it that he wanted to tell. But road blocks, which came in the form of everything from Covid to hurricanes, were in his way. But M Night persevered. And the question is, is the result of all that work made by the M Night who had an ego the size of the ocean in this movie? Or is this humbled M Night, a man who is still trying to prove himself after being beaten down by both audiences and critics alike? And how much will Matt hate it? After all, we know what resulted the last time M Night adapted someone else's work.Listen below as our Old review is finally here. And be sure to keep listening to the end as we reveal some things that are coming up on this show later on in the year (yes that was a hint).
