Dr. Staci Kearney is a regulatory consultant and Founder of Elevation Strategic Development. She joins the show to discuss her unique path to the regulatory field as someone with a scientific background. In the last 5 years, the DP/AI industry has experienced the milestones of the first whole slide imaging system approved for primary diagnosis and the first AI algorithm approved as an aid to diagnosis. Dr. Kearney discusses the role of regulatory professionals in the industry and outlines the areas where vendors typically seek assistance from consultants. Finally, with the legislation surrounding In Vitro Diagnostics and DP/AI rapidly changing, Dr. Kearney breaks down the most impactful regulatory updates.

Dana Razzano is a GI, liver, and cytopathologist at Stanford and also a faculty fellow at the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health. She has dedicated her work in pathology to improving access to laboratory medicine services in low and middle income countries. Dr. Razzanno joins Beyond The Scope to discuss her model for training pathologists around the globe, including a newly launched training program in Ethiopia. Norman Zerbe is a computer scientist and President of the European Society of Digital and Integrative Pathology. Esther Abels is a clinical and regulatory expert and President of the Digital Pathology Association in North America. Digital Pathology Place is a website featuring a podcast, blog, webinars, and news items related to digital pathology. This episode is the first installment featuring the digital pathology podcasters getting together to discuss hot topics. The result is a general discussion on digital pathology adoption and reactions to the recently published guidelines for validating clinical and pre-clinical digital pathology applications.

Dr. Lewis Hassell is a pathologist and Director of Anatomic Pathology at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He joins Beyond the Scope to introduce the Open Pathology Education Network (OPEN) and discuss the challenges currently facing the global pathology workforce. OPEN is a platform that aims to provide remote and digital education to pathologists in underserved areas of the world; they recently launched the first pilot programs in Vietnam. Dr. Hassell also shares his insights on how learnings from the COVID 19 pandemic are transforming the way we educate the next generation of pathologists.
