Awaken The Awesome - Ep. 192 - Care For Eeach Other (w. Coach Djimy Rouzard)
play

02/20/23 • 59 min

As a Caribbean man, I can tell you firsthand that there is true effort happening as we speak to bring some necessary light to the serious needs of Men in regards to their Mental Health.

Men don't talk. When your cultural and societal upbringing has patiently designed you to keep things in for so long, it it really a surprise?

But - turns out Men will talk to other Men about things.

When I first joined a Men's group some 2-3 years ago, I did not know what to expect. What I found was a group of peers : men, black men, fathers, mostly of Haitian descent who took this confident and intimate step towards opening up to other Men about things on their mind.

This is how I got the opportunity to meet and connect with today's guest, Coach Djimy Rouzard.

As one of the group's main Moderators, Coach D, as he's commonly known, has faithfully helmed our regular meeting sessions as both facilitator and mentor.

Coach D is a Personal Trainer, Speaker, Certified Life Coach and Violence Prevention Specialist for at-risk youths.

Coach D proudly integrates mindfulness into the multi-faceted work he does with people of all ages. His unique approach can help deepen self-awareness, increase well-being, enhance performance, reinforce self-esteem, achieve goals, improve interpersonal relationships and decrease stress.

On this episode, Coach D shares his insights on the important milestones being set by men in our community as they demonstrate an increasing willingness to participate in these groups, how self-forgiveness is necessary, how men are more layered than they're given credit for, doing the work...and so much more.

Enjoy

Awaken The Awesome - Ep. 184 - Never Too Late (w. Michelle Martel)
play

12/13/22 • 50 min

On today's episode...

I want to first and foremost give a shoutout to Isaiah.

I connected with Isaiah some years ago. I can tell you I know an awesome gent when I meet one.

At the time, holding down hosting resposabilities for The Booth Life which is how he came across my radar as local Montreal doing his podcast thing.

And one of his guests, on one of his later episodes, he actually interviewed his mom, Ms Michelle Martel, and she had an amazing story to tell.

Michelle basically rewrote her script. Even after leaving workforce, going back home, raise kids full time and then decidingtake the helm of her own life and go back to school and just open up a new chapter in her life as famed and reputableinterior designer. With a notoriety that caught the eye of established publications such as Apartment Therapy & HGTV.

I'm just letting you guys know that if you go on her Instagram page, it's definitely something that's going to brighten up your day.

We always think that it's too late to rewrite our script, when I don't believe that at all.

It is so inspiring to see people, even at a certain point in your life, even having good done the career, the kids...can go farther. If you listen to Michelle's story, it's something that can only show you how a choice can define the greater things that are to come.

Another exciting episode, which I do hope you'll enjoy.

I have a tremendous respect for the Military. Truly.

Anytime you want to take an example where values of commitment, consistency and teamwork are the core elements of the job at hand - you can't leave out those individuals, men and women, whose service and sacrifice allow us the freedoms that we enjoy and oftentimes take for granted.

I had to opportunity to meet and connect with my next guest, Mr Dave Morrow (M.A., BSc., BEd., CD) at a recent Rogers Small Business Centres Speaker Series event.

It was my first time ever attending an actual networking event so I didn't quite know what to expect out of it but after the keynote, we got to chat up about about mutual interests.

As it goes with most people I've had on this program, Dave had a really cool story to tell.

From being a fifteen year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, an Afghan war veteran, to being a teacher, which also ranks one of those selfless vocations we talked about, as well as a Crossfit dad...you'd think that quite enough to talk about.

But no, there's more - as the author of The Nimble Warrior, a guide serving the veteran and first-responder community towards increasing performance and reducing injury, Dave is also the host of the HRD2KILL podcast where he and an amazing array guests share their stories of mindset, grit, resilience and other essential skills for a strong way of life.

Another amazing conversation which I do hope you'll enjoy.

Awaken The Awesome - Ep. 159 - Be Unwavering (w. Eloïse Gagnon)
play

11/16/21 • 50 min

I cannot tell a lie. Today's guest really intimidated me at first.

Thing is, having been a sub-par student in a past life, I often find myself dealing with a bit of insecurity when I realize the level of accomplishment, both academic as well as professional, that many of my guests have under their belts.

Call me foolish but it's still something I find myself struggling with at times. I've done a reasonably good job of keeping this subtle Impostor Syndrome at bay. But sometimes, you get to exchange with someone who is so accomplished and a literal force to be reckoned with, you have an urge to sit up straight because you know there's going to be some serious knowledge coming your way.

In that regard, I can tell you that Eloïse Gagnon did NOT disappoint.

An entrepreneur for over 20 years and an international corporate lawyer for more than 15, Eloïse has worked alongside business leaders from around the world, leading her own 7 and 8 figure businesses along the way.

Eloïse’s ownership approach to leadership and culture is responsible for countless clients redefining what’s possible and shattering glass ceilings. She’s been featured in some of the world’s leading publications, including Authority Magazine and Thrive Global.

This conversation both moved and impacted me in so many ways. From Eloïse's incredibly warm and vulnerable sense of truth, to her resonating message of courage and ownership, this was a reminder of why we aim to bring these incredible individuals and their stories to you.

On this episode, we discuss the importance of recognizing your incredible potential, defining your purpose(because we all have one), learning to get comfortable with our discomfort...and some many life-altering truths...this is one to take notes, guys - trust me.

Awaken The Awesome - Ep. 084 - Step Into Your Decision (w. David Bianchi)
play

04/23/19 • 69 min

There's this sense of ferocious intensity that I walked away from following this extraordinary conversation with my next guest that has left me both impacted and humbled. Passion - TRUE passion - is infectious and when you have the opportunity to witness and learn from it, you should take a second to stop and listen.

Throughout his career a professional actor, screenwriter, director, producer, poet, motivational speaker and author, David Bianchi is no stranger to the kind of experiences and life lessons rooted in dedication, commitment, discipline and personal growth that we aim to communicate on this program. When I came across an interview he gave on the Bollywood Meets Hollywood podcast in which he unabashedly laid out how, speaking of the Hollywood film industry, one should aim to chase your dream with no second guesses and no excuses...or otherwise, pick another dream.

David's energy is truly of the resounding kind. In this exchange, we tap into his deeper sense of purpose, living by your own set of standards, owning up to your frailties, acceptance of others as well as ourselves, dedication to serve...and so much more.

The stereotypical cynicism that arises when you think of people in Hollywood would often lead one to make comments about how it's all "fake" and "self-absorbed" and such...but lemme tell you, there are some genuinely passionate, authentically kind and remarkably warmhearted individuals out there as well. I got the meet with one of them and for that, I am truly grateful.

Awaken The Awesome - Ep. 080 - Happy People Work Harder (w. Garen Jemian)
play

03/05/19 • 83 min

For those of you who've been along for then ride on this little audio adventure of ours, you know that I don't do too much research on my guests as I like to take a chance at getting to know the person across from me with no agenda and or expectation other than to learn from their story, vision and craft.

Garen Jemian is one those breed of people who just have that particular kind of energy that you can't quite put your finger on but definitely resonates as both genuine and engaging.

As an Executive Coach, Leadership Specialist and published author of the new book "Happy People Work Harder", Garen has made it his mission to quite simply improve life at work, for leaders as well as their teams, by inspiring positive change and humanising the corporate experience.

I was really thinking that this episode was going to be centered on or around the topics of Leadership and Work-Life balance.

Suffice to say that I was wrong.

So. Thankfully. Wrong.

There's a something to be said when a conversation takes a turn for the surprisingly impactful and manages leaves you grateful for the opportunity.

I think it's fair to warn you that this recording is a tad longer than usual. I wrestled with the choice to either edit and publish it two parts or just serve up the entirety of the conversation in its original form. I decided on the latter as the experience was a truly genuine one for me and I think it deserves to remain unabashedly intact.

My thanks to Garen for his immense kindness through heartfelt wisdom and unapologetic honesty.

What do avocados, distributed ledger technology and purposeful dedication have in common?

I struggled a lot in my last years of high school as well as throughout College. What resulted was that even though I am a strong advocate for Academia, for the longest time, I carried a strong sense of personal underachievement compared to individuals who maximised their academic potential, opportunities and endeavours in order to accomplish some pretty incredible things.

This is definitely something that caught my eye when I came across an interview my next guest gave on another podcast and the level of knowledge, expertise and overall sense of purpose that she was so powerfully and eloquently sharing left me floored.

Originally from Haiti, Genevieve Leveille, is the principal founder and CEO of AgriLedger, a blockchain solution which has been used to support and allow Haitian fruit farmers, customers, and families to reap the benefits of fairer prices and improved food security.

An innovative entrepreneur, global speaker and technology maven, with a background in corporate and institutional banking, she has more than 25 years’ experience dealing with large corporations and banks in financial supply chain optimization. With a reputation for the delivery of disruptive technologies in large-scale projects, Genevieve is recognized as an authority in the realm of digital identity and financial transformation. Exploring the powers of distributed ledger technologies (DLT) for over three years, her work in the financial inclusion for Africa is well known.

She serves as the vice-chair for the techUK Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) Working Group, an organization that provides strategic direction for all UK activities related to blockchain and DLT and is an inaugural member of the Advisory Group for the Estonian Government’s eResidency initiative for the digital identity. She has spoken on emerging technologies at numerous high-profile conferences around the world.

I can't tell you how incredibly intimidated it felt to sit across such a guest with such an incredible pedigree.

On this episode, I go back to school - literally - as Genevieve's wealth of information and expertise shed some light on issues that hit close to home for me, specifically the ways in which we as everyday consumers have our role to play in the global food supply chain, the new technologies ensuring fair compensation for farmers and distributors, as well her incredible example of resilience and singular purpose...this was an incredible interview to start out the year.

Entrepreneurship has its ups and downs, and among the latter is the isolation.

The fact that you put in so many insane hours can get maddening at times. So when someone out there in The Universe drops a comment...sends a DM...an email...or shares a review...Believe me - a guy is quite appreciative.

This is, in a nutshell, how I met and got to connect with my next guest, Erika Darbouze, and felt quite taken with her journey both as an Entrepreneur and business-owner.

You guys probably think I'm joking when I tell you this but I truly do read all of your comments. And it's throughout our various exchanges, when I came to embrace a fellow achiever's Awesome journey as something that I personally considered near and dear to my heart, that I thought : "Why not have her on the podcast as well...?"

Erika is the founder and CEO of Haiti's Corner, a B2B Export Marketing Firm, whose mission is aimed at introducing and promoting the Haitian Culture to the world through its impressive catalog of brands and various products.

As you'll soon discover, Erika is a definite and powerful example of how one can align skill, training, resourcefulness and dedication to a righteous and noble cause.

On this empowering episode, we discuss the importance of not watering down one's heritage, personal truth, dedication to the bigger picture, and how mindset is the keystone of success.

When you find yourself in the fortunate position to walk a path of genuine purpose and truth, you're already ahead of the pack.

Enjoy.

Awaken The Awesome - Ep. 102 - Passion Beyond Borders (w. Naga Subramanya B B)
play

11/12/19 • 37 min

Before we get things going and and tune in to another incredible exchange...I thought it'd be useful to remind you guys of a couple of things...

Along your journey...you will most certainly...

find reasons to question why you're doing what you're doing

encounter numerous situations where things will get rather confusing

deal with naysayers

spend many hours...days...months...where the only thing getting you through and on to the next level is your own unshakable resilience

... remember one thing: You are not alone. You are not crazy.

I honestly met my next guest Naga Subramanya only a couple of weeks ago. As curator and host of the The Passion People Podcast, Naga focuses on the stories of people who follow their dream to make their passions manifest in tangible ways.

Naga is also Finance Professional and works on his podcast as he is passionate about meeting new people and sharing their stories with the world. He took a year off in 2016 and wrote all about it in 52 blog posts that he released every week before embarking on this podcast journey.

Our encounter and the conversations that eventually sparked from it, including the one you'll soon hear, have in many ways been a welcome reassurance that no matter how overwhelming the journey, you do not have to go at it alone.

This was a short but impactful conversation filled with a ton of incredible advice for those of us committed to their efforts and putting it the work - every day.

Whether it be podcasting or any personal venture that you dedicate yourself to, when your mission comes from a place of genuine purpose and service, and if you happen to love what you do, incredible encounters will reveal themselves sooner than you think.

You can connect with Naga via Twitter. Also be sure to follow the Passion People Podcast via Twitter or Facebook and be sure to Subscribe/Like/Rate/Share the podcast via Apple Podcasts or wherever you find your favorite podcasts.
