The Cannes Film Festival may be the epitome of overindulgence. The outfits rival anything seen at the Met Gala while the setting is one of the most fabulous in the world. Fortnite is a multiplayer video game played by kids. So, what brought the two together? We talk about one of the strangest crossovers in years.
Every time we review a movie, we try to go in with zero expectations. That does not stop us from forming initial impressions, however. Green Ghost and the Masters of the Stone is a movie about a car salesman written by and starring... a car salesman. Charlie is down on his luck, but has a strong support system. He also learns that he has superpowers that can save the world.
We were interested in the movie because of its ties to El Paso and did not hesitate to watch it. Based on the premise, we each went in with a very specific idea of what we were going to see. All of us were surprised, but is that a good thing. We also discuss the passion put in the movie and the what seems to be a creepy crush the hero has on his sister.
The Dark and the Wicked is something of a return to form for us. The intimate horror film about a pair of siblings up against a sinister force is worlds away from the over the top fare we have recently featured. Bryan Bertino has an impressive pedigree and his knowledge of the genre is on full display. But are there too many tropes and is the twist too easy to spot?

Episode 169: 'The Northman' Special Edition
Robert Eggers first two films have been stunning works - depending on who you ask. The Northman is easily his most accessible film to date, so why did people walk out of the showing Blake attended? Thematically, there is a direct line to The Witch and The Lighthouse. Both of those were polarizing films among audiences. Did Eggers not do enough to cater to mainstream audiences?
This also leads to a question about his future. Whether a person likes his movie or not is subjective, but there is not doubting he is a talented director. Will he be doing larger pictures that are more in line with the general public's taste or will he continue developing his nihilistic view on storytelling?
The Northman lives up to the promise of its trailer and delivers big action pieces. We talk about how well Eggers was able to move from slower more contemplative films to action adventure. Did the movie keep us engaged or was the pacing too slow for the story it was trying to tell? And it sure was nice of Bjork to use her own wardrobe for the movie.
We also take a brief detour to talk about Alex Garland's new movie. Men looks to be employing deep fake technology in an unsettling trailer. As creepy as the trailer is, the red band version seems to give away too much of the plot. We also question why A24 only uses their cool logo designs for trailers.

Episode 171: Mommy Issues Month: 'Blood Red Sky' (2021)/'The Innocents' (2022)
The FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards return to Shudder this weekend and as expected, the nominees are an exciting bunch. 2021 was a good year for horror fans and we reminiscence over what we liked best. One us surprises even themselves with a best picture selection, we talk about a polarizing debut, and Danny talks about a movie he has never seen before.
The Innocents does not sound like it is going to be anything special. A group of kids discover they have powers. This starts out as good clean fun before quickly becoming something more sinister. The Norwegian film subverts expectations by telling a much deeper film than expected. We also talk about the drudgery of Norway and argue over whether calling it an X-Men story is too reductive.
Netflix has become a giant in the movie industry. They are such a fixture at awards shows that sometimes it is hard to forget how much content they pump out. Despite its success, Blood Red Sky ended up being forgotten rather quickly. The movie combines vampires, hijackers, and an annoying kid and gives audiences a movie they never asked for. But that does not mean they did not need it.
