***SPOILER WARNING! WE DISCUSS DUNE AND MAJOR PLOT REVELATIONS***
We end the spooky season with what is destined to become a Halloween favorite. This week we talk about 2021's 'Dune'. We have been talking about this movie for years and were all extremely excited to see it. The question is not if we liked the movie, but how much. There is no way any of us would dislike the movie, right?
Dune may not ever be the perfect Halloween movie, but it is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. We talk about whether a person can get into the movie without having read the books first. Right off the bat, one of us is very upset about how confusing everything is. This begs the question: there is no doubting how gorgeous the film is; but is it just a case of style over substance.
We also try to figure out the odd line deliveries and naming conventions. Timothee Chalamet has proven he is one of the best young actors today. Why does his science fiction hero speak every other YouTuber? And why do the most important characters have such normal names?
The three of us also talk about the direction outside of the grand sci-fi moments, compare this version to David Lynch's much maligned 1984 attempt (you will be surprised who has nice things to say about it - well, maybe not), and talk about how there is only one way to watch Dune.

Episode 142: 'Dashcam'/'Hell Fest'
31 Days of Horror continues with a visit to the nicest traveling Halloween carnival you will ever see. But when you do not follow the right order when killing plus you main annoying person does their job too well, is the movie worth watching? We also talk about the second movie of the year involving dashcams and conspiracies.
The Munsters are one of the most beloved sitcom families in television history. The news that Rob Zombie was going to make a reboot was a little worrisome. Zombie is clearly a fan of horror, but he also takes things to the extreme in the worst ways possible. He talk about the latest photo from the set of the movie and wonder why everyone looks so upset.
Dashcam (not to be confused with DASHCAM) is a thriller about a video editor that stumbles upon a possible government conspiracy. It is atmospheric, engaging, and boasts a strong lead performance. So why are we so confused about the movie? We also try to figure out if there is a right way to handle the pandemic in film.
Hell Fest seems like it would be the perfect movie for the spook season. A slasher set at a travelling Halloween carnival, the movie follows a bunch of friends hanging out on Halloween. What happens next should be obvious, except it absolutely isn't. How important is killing people in the right order in a slasher? Is there such a thing as too annoying?

Episode 144: Mysterious Ways Edition: 'Burning'/'The Beta Test'
After a year of staying as far away from the show as possible, Pablo comes back to talk about two character driven thrillers. We start with a discussion about 2018's Burning from South Korea and close with a talk about this year's The Beta Test. We also talk about another upcoming Stephen King adaptation and have an interview with the Jim Cummings and P.J. McCabe from The Beta Test.
There are just some things we cannot get away from on the show. Another Stephen King adaptation is on the way, and this time Rob Savage is at the helm. We talk about The Boogeyman, whether a short story can effectively be made into a two hour movie, and if a director known for found footage will be able to pull it all off.
Parasite made history at the Academy Awards in 2020. Arguably, the path for its success was paved the year before with Burning. The movie is about a man who runs into a childhood friend. This one chance encounter leads to a carefully laid out mystery, commentary on class, and nuanced storytelling.
Before we talk about The Beta Test , directors, writers, and stars Jim Cummings and P.J. McCabe talk about how they made the movie, what fears they had, and why improvisation does not work for them. It is a great interview that touches on what is wrong with Hollywood and possibly foreshadows the future of moviemaking.
The film itself is a genre mash that includes elements of horror, erotica, comedy, and mystery. It is a modern story that also touches on social media and datamining. But is there too much going on? We talk about the performances, whether the movie is too inside, and the loss of erotica thrillers.
