This episode features an interview with a really fun punk band from the Pacific Northwest, Slurm Flirty Worm. Slurm's drummer and back up vocalist (Abbi) is trans, and a listener local to Slurm helped connect Abbi and I. The whole band, Abbi, Michael, & Zakk are awesome, and I had a lot of fun chatting with them about how they got their name, what kind of music they play, and of course which hot pockets are the best hot pockets.

Closing music for this episode is from the Subwave Network UK an alternative dance project based in Bournemouth founded by Mr Electrosketch and Miss Fortunate and is heavily influenced by bands such as Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, The Prodigy, Groove Armada, Chase & Status and Rudimental. Despite battling many prejudices, they are beginning to make some well-deserved ripples. A combination of keyboards with Guitars, ukulele and an unusual looking device called a Pin guitar from Thailand. There are songs like the 80’s influenced “The Sound of my Heartbeat” and the slightly risque “Touch Me all Over”, which both have a really upbeat danceable feel to them"
The Subwave Network UK have recently recorded and released their debut and released their debut album ALIEN DATA MIX via BANDCAMP which is a concoction of heavy rock, bangra dub reggae, dub step, trance, house and drum n bass. They are aiming to eventually play the big stages also so if you'd like to follow them, please do so via Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

Today’s guest is John Wreisner who is the chapter head of the Minneapolis Chapter of the Satanic Temple. Fair warning to all listener; if you’re going into this interview looking for the best recipe for cooking babies, you will be sorely disappointed. The Satanic Temple is actually a wonderfully progressive organization that is working to better the day to day lives & experiences of everyone on the LGBTQIAA spectrum better. That’s not their only goal, but it’s one of the main reasons I reached out to John and asked him to be on the show. Satanists provide a much needed contrast to the arguments of religious freedom, because as a religion they force themselves into conversations about the proper place for religion in our society and governments.
Prior to the interview I get on my soapbox and discuss my views on political correctness, why I think George Carlin might be a bit wrong, and of course, why I'm right.
After the show find some empty space on the floor and get ready to find your dancing feet as you enjoy the wonderful sounds of The Subwave Network UK

The Web of Queer:
As a Doctor Who lover, wait that's wrong, I've never had sexual relations with a lord of any kind, especially not time. As a Whovian, I have listened to quite a few podcasts with Doctor as the subject, but this is the first one I've listened to with a Queer focus. The Web of Queer does a great job reviewing classic and new Who episodes, and then using the Who universe to discuss our's, focusing on the LGBTQIAA spectrum....and I mean the whole spectrum, not just the LG portion.
Episode 12: The Laws of Timelord Attraction features a discussion of asexual aromantic by someone who actually is asexual and aromantic. This podcast is both entertaining, and is also very education for anyone who is interested in hearing more about the Queer community, by members of the Queer community.

- 05:05 Interview with Brianna

My guest today is a local listener, where local is defined as living about an hour south of me in the gorgeous town of Rochester, Minnesota. I say gorgeous because it has lots of bike trails, and if you fall down and get hurt you’re never more than a block away from some part of the Mayo clinic.
Brianna and I were exchanging emails for at least the last year, I’m pretty sure it was before she even began medically transitioning. We talked about atheism, transitioning, family, being married, staying married....and I realized I was talking about someone going through some of the same kind of things I was going through...and thus began the process of getting her on the show.
I hope enjoy this conversation as much as I enjoyed having it, because this was one of those conversations that didn’t need a microphone. It was just a lovely conversation with a lovely person, and at the end of it I left a better person for it.

Quick Episode Summary
- 1:02 Quick introduction for new listeners
- 05:18 Grease Rag Interview
- 58:08 PixelGoth
This episode features an interview with Grease Rag, a mostly Minneapolis based Women, Trans, and Femme cycling organization who are successfully creating safe spaces not just for cisgender women, but also for anyone who is femme, trans, non-binary, or really anyone who doesn't fit into the standard cisgender masculine community.
One of my favorite aspects of Grease Rag is how grassroots and welcoming they are. You don't have to own an expensive bicycle to belong. You don't have to know anything about a bicycle to be welcome at one of their open shops. You simply have to be decent person.
The people who make Grease Rag possible are passionate about bicycling, and about empowering everyone and anyone who identifies as a Woman, Trans, or Femme.
Personally, I love my bicycle. I've always loved my bicycle. I love the freedom of moving fast, under my own pedal power, and the feeling of wind on my face. I love the being alone among people in the city, riding through Minneapolis, not having to worry about finding a place to park before I find a place for coffee. I love realizing I'm 30 miles away from home, and that I rode there, and the only way I'm getting home is back on that bicycle - or the bus :)
If you live in, or are visiting Minneapolis, I highly recommend the Grand Rounds, a bicycle tour of the city park system that encircles the city. You'll see Minnehaha Falls, the Chain of Lakes area, the Downtown Waterfront, and a lot more scenic and natural beauty nested in an urban area.
Minneapolis and Saint Paul have a fantastic bike sharing program, called Nice Ride Minnesota, that I use quite frequently, its a wonderful way to see the city or even as a transportation solution.
Music for this episode is by Pixelgoth, aka Grace Lynn, a pixel artist, songwriter, and game designer. My interview this episode with Travis Peterson, lead organizer of Minnesota Skeptics. Minnesota Skeptics are a passionate group of science advocates dedicated to the pursuit of scientific skepticism. During this interview I bring up the subject of diversity, I won’t spoil the answer, but I will point out that as a gender non-conforming transwoman I’ve always felt welcome, safe, and completely accepted as is. I’m consistently greeted with the correct name, pronouns, and don’t ever feel as though I’m being judged. I can’t promise you every skeptic group is as awesome as Minnesota Skeptics, but I can promise you Minnesota Skeptics is a place I feel safe to be myself, and of course, question everything.
This interview was recorded inside the Be’Wiched Deli, which is on 800 North Washington Avenue in Minneapolis, right next to Target Field. They’re super nice, have the most delicious homemade caramel sauce, and were gracious in allowing me to record in their lobby.

Ep 34 Secular Buddhism with Ted Meissner

- 01:02 Thank you!
- 07:36 Interview with Ted Meissner
- 71:58 Nicki Andro "Cylinder Spin"
- 75:30 Nicki Andro "Distant Hearts (Raise Community Awareness)"
My guest today is Ted Meissner, the Executive Director of the Secular Buddhist Association, host of their official podcast The Secular Buddhist, and on the Advisory Board for the Spiritual Naturalist Society. His background is in the Zen and Theravada traditions, he is a regular speaker on interfaith panel discussions, and is interested in examining the evolution of contemplative practice in contemporary culture. Ted works at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society doing community development and teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.
In addition to all that formal stuff, Ted is also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Whether or not mindfulness, is your cup of tea or not, Ted’s approach to life is definitely working for him. When I asked Ted if I could sit down with him, it was with the goal of learning more about Secular Buddhism, because it seemed like a contradictory term. Just like when someone identifies as “Christian” there is no way to know whether they take communion with wine or grape juice (and don’t for a minute think that’s not an important question to a lot of Christians) It is important to remember not all Buddhists have the same philosophy, there are many differing ideas and schools of thought. Some Buddhists believe in reincarnation and some don’t. There are around 350 million Buddhists worldwide, and just 6 months ago I was completely ignorant of different and nuanced those different belief systems were.
As Ted is a secular Buddhist, this interview will focus on what he believes, and I hope that you find it as interesting and thought provoking as I did.
