Farmers and herders living in the drylands of Africa and the Middle East are used to dealing with uncertainty. But their resilience is being tested by new and complex challenges. In this podcast series, broadcaster Bola Mosuro talks to researchers, aid workers and herders about some of the new crises facing the drylands and the dynamic ways in which people are responding to meet them. She asks: what does long-term resilience look like in these fast-changing places? How are pastoralists and farmers adapting and innovating? And what can governments, development organisations and businesses do to more effectively support them? One thing is clear: the drylands are more dynamic than you might think. This series is produced by Supporting Pastoralism and Agriculture in Recurrent and Protracted Crises (SPARC), a six-year research programme managed by Cowater, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Mercy Corps and ODI and commissioned by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).The podcast is produced by Loftus Media Ltd.For more information, visit www.sparc-knowledge.org/dynamic-drylands-podcast or find us on X (@SPARC_ideas).Note: This material has been funded by UK aid from the UK government; however, the views expressed do not necessarily reflect the UK government’s official policies. Is the realization you are officially “middle aged” totally screwing with your head? Does the fact that all the favorite bands of your youth are now doing “reunion tours” give you a paradoxical feeling of joyful melancholy? Does realizing you can’t lecture your kid about their tattoos and/or piercings without them bringing up yours give you a headache? Wondering how in the hell you are still out marching about the same bullshit you were back in your Riot Grrrl days? Well you are not alone! Life is hard, yo! Just when you think you have it figured out fate throws a handful of nails under your worn tires and there you are, spinning out of control and desperately trying to gain traction. Big or small, it is easy to feel alone in your struggles and it doesn’t have to be that way. If you are anything like the rest of us tired assholes trying to accept that “middle age” is something actually happening to us, you thought you would have this shit figured out by now too. It is time to tighten up the laces on those old Docs and touch up our goddamned roots; because we are going to get through this crazy shit together.

Latest episode 3 days ago

The Story in My Head is a podcast about healing, self-improvement and self-care for the lazy. It's a raw and meandering journey through the stories in my head that create fear, plant obstacles and disable me from living the life I want. This is NOT your average self-help podcast. It is not polished and refined and presented as a recipe for healthy living. Rather its an honest sharing of the stories that feed my dark spaces, the consequences of my storytelling, and the ways I'm working to re-write the narrative. I think most of us tell stories in our heads that we fear will be judged if we share. I want to explore the stories that make us uncomfortable including ones about depression, anxiety, conflict, self-esteem, sex, relationships, death, addiction, parenting, adulting. This list goes on and on. These are the issues I struggle with and I don't think I'm alone, yet most people don't want to talk about them. WTF? The Story in My Head podcast, hosted by me...Amy. Where my guests and I talk honestly about things that make us uncomfortable. We will share our stories, our experiences and the nuggets we gather along the way. You might laugh a little. You may cry a little. I suspect you will be able to relate. Nonetheless, it will be shameless entertainment. If you like Unf*ck Your Brain, Help Me Be Me, Unlocking Us, The Mel Robbins Podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Terrible Thanks for Asking, Therapy for Black Girls, Goop, The Happiness Lab, and Happier then you may enjoy The Story in My Head.
