In this episode, double bassist and Ensemble Modern member Paul Cannon speaks with the German YouTube artist and performer Hainbach about the evolution of his YouTube channel – from recording his improvised rehearsals to explaining the instruments he uses. »The stranger, the more absurd, the more people would cheer me on.« They also discuss how Hainbach drew inspiration from the composing techniques of Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi for his collaboration with the Ensemble Modern at the Checkpoint concert and the Alte Oper concert. »I let [the instruments] collide. In “Nebenstimmen” hören Sie Gespräche von Ensemble-Mitgliedern mit von ihnen selbst ausgewählten Gesprächspartner*innen zu Musik, Kunst und Leben. In der 30. Folge spricht Oboist und Ensemble Modern-Mitglied Christian Hommel mit dem französischen Dirigenten und Hornisten Franck Ollu. Ollu erzählt von seinem musikalischen Werdegang: Er wurde in La Rochelle geboren und begann mit sieben Jahren Geige zu spielen. Später wechselte er zum Horn und sammelte während seines Militärdienstes wertvolle musikalische Kontakte. 1989 erhielt er eine Einladung des Ensemble Modern und war von 1991 bis 2004 festes Mitglied als Hornist. Heute dirigiert er weltweit führende Orchester und Ensembles – und kehrt immer wieder gerne als Gast zum Ensemble Modern zurück: „Ich bin glücklich, wenn ich hier bin. Es ist eine Art Heimat geworden.“ Außerdem sprechen sie über die Unterschiede in der kulturellen Landschaft Deutschlands und Frankreichs.
