Who am I?

I’m a marketing professional who wishes he had a TV game show. I’ve played drums in Christian rock bands and worked in porn shops. I’ve produced massive concerts and sold millions in drugs. Huge fan of hümanity. I have a media studio in my imagination called Emo Dojo. I produce and host an insufferable banter show called Jive Streams, and am assembling a panel for a new roundtable show on the fate of humanity. I’ve been podcasting for many years. I've really come to appreciate the podcasters who do it for the craft of the recorded conversation. These are folks who could be considered “hobbyists” if only because their podcasts are not primarily a profit center for them. Many who engage with podcasting focus on making money with their shows before making them good. A few months later, those people are gone ... only to reappear later with another get-rich-quick podcast scheme. The five podcasters on this list are the opposite of that; they persist to master the art of podcasting regardless of the show topic, guests, sponsors, release schedules, or other capitalist mandates. They podcast for the love of the craft, and it shows.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Emo Dojo produces podcasts about the persistence of the human condition. This list of podcasters represents the voices of a wide cross-section of that hümanity. People who persist in their passion despite the patience required to overcome setbacks.

What is my podcast playlist about?

I’ve been (slowly) assembling a dream cast of characters for a future round table show. Part of that work includes doing what I refer to as “chemistry” episodes where I interview the potential cohost. The shows on this playlist feature those podcasters on their own shows. If you give their shows a listen you might understand why I want to gather their varied opinions onto one show.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. My Aloof Vagina, A Cheeky Guide to Perimenopause

Why this podcast?

Martha uncovers the secret world of the aging woman in a very audacious way. Her straightforward manner and revealing guests are a refreshing approach to the topics discussed without being vulgar or making it weird. Men would learn a lot by listening to this show. Women might, too.

Unprepared for perimenopause? (Same!) Felt misunderstood or alone during it all? (Yup.) Feel too young for this? (Me, too!) So I'm on a quest with my friends (and my aloof vagina) to understand what other "surprises" to expect AND to get a handle on all this midlife stuff, from sex & relationships to the weird stuff happening to our bodies. (The stuff nobody wants to talk about.) Warning: Like to laugh and sometimes pee your pants when you do? This podcast was designed to serve you. Grab leakage protection & join us for some fun.

4. The Crash Cart Rule with Serge Brown

Why this podcast?

Serge is a high-energy conservative host who loves cooking as much as a good Hunter Biden conspiracy. Having interviewed him for one of my shows, I learned that he's not a crazy person. He's a passionate, curious person with a killer voice. Better yet, if you listen to his show and disagree with him, he'll engage with you like a rational person. He can turn the heat on and off at will. If you agree with his political perspective, his magnetism will draw you right in and have you wondering “Where has this guy been all my life?”

5. Entertainment Man Podcast

Why this podcast?

Chris B On The Web (as he's known over on YouTube) is one of the most transparent podcasters I've known sharing the ups and downs of running a show. His social media posts tell the story of a man driven by podcasting in all its glory; the planning, the guests, the research, the writing, the recording, the failures — it's all there for the world to see. And he keeps going. This is The Way.
