The best podcasts for spoiler filled movie discussions

Who am I?

I'm a music composer and podcast producer from Las Vegas. I've been composing music for films, TV, commercials and other kinds of projects for over 15 years and producing and hosting podcasts for the last 5. I also work in my family's record store Wax Trax Records here in Las Vegas. I love movies, my pets, my wife, pizza, popcorn and Diet Coke. One day I'm going to score a giant monster movie and die happily while sitting in the movie theater watching it. Preferably in Dolby or IMAX. Movies are my favorite thing (obviously, since I made my own podcast about them), and quite frankly... I don't listen to podcasts about anything else. Occasionally I'll listen to some music podcasts, but not enough to really put a list together. So movies are the natural thing for me to podcast about, for me to write about, and for me to make a list about.

My Show

What is my podcast about and/or how does it relate to the playlist topic you chose?

Piecing It Together is a podcast about movies and the movies that inspired them. On each episode my guests and I do a deep dive into a film to figure out what other movies might have inspired it in some way. By the end of each conversation listeners have a list of other movies that may have similar themes, ideas, filmmaking styles or that connect in some other way. Obviously to dig into those ideas, we've gotta get deep into spoilers on a podcast like mine. Sometimes I forget to say the spoiler warning out loud, and for that, I apologize... But it's in the show notes so come on.

What is my podcast playlist about?

Movie discussions that aren't afraid to get into spoiler territory! Look... There's lots of movie podcasts out there... And there's lots of movie review podcasts out there... But quite frankly, I don't really need to listen to movie news or movie previews or just general discussions of plot recaps. After I watch a movie, I want to listen to interesting people dig deep into what made a movie tick. And to do that... You gotta get into some spoilers. You gotta get your hands dirty. You gotta get into all the finer details of what's going on in the movie, and to do that, you gotta get into spoilers.

The podcasts I picked and why

1. Reel Spoilers - Movie Reviews

Why this podcast?

It's right in the name! A great, long running podcast with some great hosts who are not afraid to really get into all the finer details of a film. This is what deep diving into a movie is all about. Spoil away!

2. Franchise Detours

Why this podcast?

Robert and his Franchise Detours podcast doesn't just get into the spoilers of a movie, but the spoilers of the whole damn franchise! His deep dives into each film franchise lead to some great discussions. I've been on a few of them too!

3. Screen Fix - The Movie Podcast Where We Fix A Recent Film

Why this podcast?

You can't "fix" a movie without getting into spoiler territory. JC and his Screen Fix podcast has been going on pretty much around the same length of time as my own and I've guested on it a bunch of times. Coming up with ideas on how to fix a movie can be a dicey subject matter (as they always say, a lot of people work hard on these movies) but they always keep it fun and light. In the case of Screen Fix, we're not just getting spoilers for the movie itself but spoilers for how the movie COULD have played out.

Screen Fix is the movie podcast where J.C. and a guest fix a recent film. If you've ever left a movie thinking about what changes would have made it a better film, then this is the podcast for you. home: screenfixpod.com twitter: @screenfixpod

4. Binge Movies: Rankings and Reviews

Why this podcast?

Oh Binge Movies... How does this dude manage to get so many people to binge so many random movies? Because he's charismatic and leads a fun, deep dive conversation for people to dig into after they've seen the film. Always a fun time and has introduced me and lots of other listeners to all kinds of movies that we probably would have never watched if it wasn't for this podcast.

5. Awesome Movie Year

Why this podcast?

OK maybe this one is a cheat since I produce this podcast and appear on mic (I even get my own pick each season). But film critic Josh Bell and filmmaker/comedian Jason Harris put on a great show that I genuinely would be listening to even if I wasn't involved with it. Each season takes on a different awesome movie year in film history and has a pretermined list of categories they fill in from Best Picture Winner to Box Office Champ to Box Office Flop to notable First Feature. Each episode then does a deep dive into the film that fills out that category and looks at reviews from the time of release, the background of the movie, what happens in it, general thoughts, and then the film's legacy. It's a great show that really provides context into all these movies and their place in film history.
