Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

Clockwork Bird began as a novel. I wrote it as a response to Frankenstein, during my first months studying Philosophy and Literature at university. I love Frankenstein, and I think that if Shelly were writing now, it'd be about AI. I wanted to write a story that challenged our preconceptions about both AI and transhumanism, and which also explores the philosophy and ethics of death and the dead.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

I hope people come away from this show thinking more deeply about the interecting issues of scientific experimentation and the boundaries between human and machine thought. I want people to have thought more deeply about what it means to die, and what rights we ought to extend to the dead. I'd also hope people will reflect on their relationship to technology.

Which episode are you most proud of?

This show is the first one I ever made. I'm often tempted to go back and re-edit it, but I'm not sure about that. I like it as a testament to how far I've come.
